Perhaps we should just start posting "A connection attempt failed." repeatedly.

I have played Lotro since launch and every time there has been an Xpac or major update it has been this way. You would have thought they'd have learned by now.

WB/Turbine knows a great deal about how to lose players - SW/GW2/D3 all coming in the near future. It's huge mistakes like this that will cause ppl to move on.

I do not think you fully understand. Ive been waiting since 10am trying to patch. I keep seeing everyone posting screenshots hapily playing while the majority of us cannot patch. It sounds like you guys are simply saying to us we can wait till tomorrow or whenever. To me it doesnt seem like this is load when people can patch and others (like me) who have been trying for hours cannot. What would be nice is some reassurance you guys know whats wrong.

Is it normal that the "Examine Game Data" part takes sooo long while patching?

This downtime has been for me from morning to night(it's 10pm+ here) so the whole day and I just started this game last night(already feeling addicted ).

I just hope it's up tomorrow.

...But that's the point, innit? Health care is a REAL issue. This is a GAME. A game that's being launched a day early, with the company being as responsive as possible to the concerns of the people having trouble with it.

Not an official response, but several people have noted that they simply let the launcher auto-retry continually until it successfully connected and patched. I'm still waiting, but am just going to let it auto-try... Good luck on getting the connection!

When I continue to see launches like this, by software companies raking in tons of money with literally months to plan having huge systematic failures I don't feel sympathy. I just shake my head and and say wow, really? Five months to plan for this launch and this is the best you can do?

Make all the excuses for them you want, this is a failed launch impacting a large part of the customer base.

a day is what you make of it. you only get 25,000 or so of them. if you're spending today QQing on the internet then yes, i'll agree you've wasted a day.

If they were ready to go a day early they should have done a tiered launch, or put the patch servers up first, or something.

Not to whine -- as I never expected to actually be able to play today anyway, figuring that they started the patch a day early so that they could be sure to have servers up and running by sometime tomorrow -- but I keep getting the strangest thing. Over the course of hours of trying, about every 4th try I get about a second of the patch starting to download and then it reverting back to the dreaded x.

    Just an odd observation.

Im sorry but I never have had a time in ANY expansion or whatever that I cannot even patch while others are playing the game. Ive been waiting to patch for hours restarting my PC, recopying files and trying everything I can think of. It is VERY frustrating. All we get in made fun of and told how this happens all the time etc. It doesnt happen all the time in fact its never happened like this before. I worry they assume its just load and 4-5 days from now Ill still be unable to patch or play the game i am paying for. A little customer service isnt too much to ask. This should have been foreseen how could they not know there would be load? Like you said it happens everytime but with some planning it doesnt have to.
