Somehow I've manage a /roll 1 ..... against the patch server for the last 7 hours

Well I computer finished the patch, but cant connect to servers. So it will be a while I suspect.
On a 2nd note, my 2nd PC is stuck at Examining Programs so it has not progressed in getting updates. Not sure what the story is about hat though.

uh, just copy over the game client from the first one instead of sucking down bandwidth that could be used to update someone else.

While I can certainly understand the frustration associated with delays and having to wait for patching and connection related delays, what I cannot understand and what will not be tolerated is anyone who feels the need to insult, provoke or otherwise be offensive towards other players or turbine staff. If it continues the community team will very happily go back through the entire thread and infract accordingly and fully.

After waiting about 6 hours, patching finally happened Hang in there people! The hobbits WILL go Isengard

In the case of my Elf, she's lived for three milennia. I suppose a few more hours won't hurt to wait to head to Isengard. :P

Is it normal that the "Examine Game Data" part takes sooo long while patching?

I also am sitting on Examine Game Data. For quite a while now.

Im sorry but I never have had a time in ANY expansion or whatever that I cannot even patch while others are playing the game. Ive been waiting to patch for hours restarting my PC, recopying files and trying everything I can think of. It is VERY frustrating. All we get in made fun of and told how this happens all the time etc. It doesnt happen all the time in fact its never happened like this before. I worry they assume its just load and 4-5 days from now Ill still be unable to patch or play the game i am paying for. A little customer service isnt too much to ask. This should have been foreseen how could they not know there would be load? Like you said it happens everytime but with some planning it doesnt have to.

This was me also since the forums change it keeps randomlu changing my login and logging me out.

Not an official response, but several people have noted that they simply let the launcher auto-retry continually until it successfully connected and patched. I'm still waiting, but am just going to let it auto-try... Good luck on getting the connection!

Anyone who's ever worked at a career more involved than cashier or fast-food clerk knows just how much goes into any new product launch.

Anyone who's ever worked in any area of IT knows that it is much MUCH more complex than "plug it in and flip the switch".

Anyone who's ever worked in any facet of customer service knows how frustrating and appalling it is to be doing everything possible to resolve said situation and still be screamed at by people who somehow think that the CS rep has the power to change the laws of physics just for their benefit.

Anyone who's ever dealt with the Real World in any adult fashion knows that sometimes there is nothing anybody can do about a situation besides wait for it to be resolved.

If you're too young or inexperienced to have encountered these facts for yourself, well, time will resolve that quickly enough; in the meantime, please accept my word that the above statements are true.

But if you're well aware of the above, and are simply enraged because Turbine is not treating you like the special snowflake you are? You might find that you're happier with a single-player game that allows you to be whatever sort of special snowflake you wish to be, rather than a multiplayer game where others will no doubt remind you at regular intervals that you are no more privileged than anyone else.

Just a thought.

I play World of Warcraft, and trust me, it is no better on patch days. Generally they say the servers will be up at 11:00, then 12:00, then 1:00, and don't go up until late the next night. At least now SOME people can play, in WoW on patch day nobody should count on being able to.
