Been waiting to patch for over 7 hours now. Why isn't there a flag in the game files that indicates subscription status at logout and prioritizes VIP over others?

    Yay!

After 5 hours of waiting, my launcher started to update!

Just letting you all know, there IS something happening while you are watching the "Retry" count-down (Just let it sit there)

Sure there is. Change under-used servers to the overflowing tasks. Every company with changing server-loads has this function.

And companies that plan ahead, have the possibility to add extra servers in times of need for a minimum cost, cause they rent their servers at some 3rd parties server-farm (my company uses IBM, but there are many, many others) so they can request alot of extra servers just for days like these.

Saying that servers can't cope with overflow is factual false.

I've never seen any ability to prepatch LOTRO except for a couple months a few years ago, that ended up with so many people busting their clients that Turbine decided it wasn't worth the tech support nightmare.

    I can't log in? xD

I'm just stuck and I can't even type in my username/password and such. It says underneath the whole "Connect, Examine Programs, etc." step...

    "An update error occurred...
    Connection attempt failed."

It 'retries' every sixty seconds but I've been letting it go for five or so minutes right now to no avail. Sad day!

Let it retry, it will eventually start patching, mine did. Just let the client do its thing.

not sure how it could exceed your expectations.

you have at least twice the playerbase trying to patch then you have had on any other expac day.

your IT guys should have proactively added the capacity to handle MoM/SoM/f2p changeover patch days combined and then doubled it.

retroactively adding capacity makes it look as though you had no clue as to the number of folks trying to patch up today.

Actually the official launch date remains September 27. Today is a bonus. The team worked very hard to get things into shape and ready so that the game would be available a day early.
this is the longest i have ever had to wait just to patch (8+ hours and counting) and morgan freeman only knows how long it will be before i can get into the game again.

i am starting to think you all decided to release a day early because you expected something like this and wanted a 24hours buffer to get everyone patched so you could still meet the original official release date.

while i am severely frustrated with the way things have gone so far i must give kudos to your IT guys for keeping things up and runnign without any crashes caused by demand on your network.

People that pre-ordered are higher on my ladder (*Waves* ) tbh... Then again i'm rather happy they don't discriminate which sub one has.

8 hours, two connections, not one successful connection.

Sapience, if this is as expected, Turbine should be ashamed and embarassed over their dismal expectations even on a crowded launch day. I've been a happy customer since the original Beta, this is the absolute first time I have ever been disappointed in Turbine and it's beyond a little disappointment, it's digust.

Because they never closed for ips outside the US. Many, many people outside the US have patched, and, in fact, I'm outside the US and in the midst of doing so myself.
