Amazing, isn't it ? ''The demand exceeded our expectations''. I am not sure what they expected... Maybe that everyone waited a week to log in ? And, hey, ''the patching servers and login servers are working as expected''. Thousands of people are waiting for hours now, but everything is working as expected ! Amazing. Simply amazing.

I wish I could treat my customers like that ! ''Sure, Sir, it takes 6 hours for us to put the dough in the oven, and, yes, Sir, once it starts baking, it takes ANOTHER 4 hours to be ready, but look over there, there are some people that are eating, so everything is working as expected.''.

    Seriously ?

I'm still examining game data, but I'm too scared of having to reconnect all over again to cancel it and redo. lol

Hopefully, I'll go from Examine Game Data to the next thing without having to retry.

We are seeing steady increases in the number of players per world and it is across all servers. So the patching servers and login servers are working as expected and players are getting into the game.
If we haven't patched yet is restarting the client the way to go or should we leave it trying to connect every 1 min?

I spent 6hrs trying to connect to the updater, FINALLY got through only to have it get hung up on Examining Game Data for over an hour before I had to give up and restart the launcher, where I'm now stuck again at trying to connect.

Why are so many of us upset?? I don't know about other players, but I'm extremely disappointed because I've been playing this game since closed beta; I've gone through every update/expansion and NEVER EVER did I encounter this issue. At most I had to endure 15-20 minutes of trying to connect to the updater. I find it difficult to believe that since the last update this game has grown exponentially in the number of players to the point that we're encountering half-a-day wait times just to update. And when I see complaints on the forums and read that the devs are responding with threats to hand out infractions I lose all faith whatsoever in Turbine.

Solution? Next time Turbine asks for my vote in naming them as the top game in this contest or that, I shall politely decline. Next time Turbine asks me to recommend the game to a friend, again I shall politely decline. And if the rest of you are disappointed with how this update has unfolded, I suggest you do the same. Perhaps when they place last instead of first in the next Best MMO contest they'll get the message that they've disappointed a large percentage of their player population.
You won't have had this issue before because there wasn't another Continent trying to download it at the same time, and that excludes those in places like Australia etc who aren't part of Europe. I'm sure they have taken on the extra capacity for this but it is still a big experiment in terms of what to expect when it opened up to all the world of players downloading from one location.

Next you say the launch date isn't the issue, but you are moaning because you can't get onto the server to patch a day early. If you haven't patched on the 27th then you will have a point. Turbine are letting you pre patch essentially by letting people do it today so they can get everyone on for launch. If they do that then it's mission accomplished. If you can't patch today then it is bad luck, and you'll just have to wait.

Turbine get my thumbs up, believe me after expiriencing Codemasters. After 6 hrs of waiting to get on, it would take 2 hrs to patch at least! I'm in the UK and it took 20 minutes from Turbine.

The best part of Patch Day? Reading the forums. I have been treated to a steady stream of whining, complaining, horrid spelling and abysmal punctuation. Quite entertaining.

If you can log in and play, good for you. I hope the game is spectacular. If you can't, don't worry. You will at some point. Go read a book, watch TV, get outside. If you are a pasty skinned basement dweller like me, get on Vent/Skype/The Comms you like and rage with your friends. It's only a game. Patch Day for WoW, Eve Online, Everquest and ever DAoC was the same. Some people could get in, some couldn't. Some felt compelled to post long missives questioning the intelligence of the Devs, some found it amusing.

I've every confidence that someone will take me to task about how stupid I am or that I am some sort of Turbine apologist. It's cool. If it helps you and makes you feel better, take your best shot.

Meanwhile, I'll have the client open and waiting to patch, while I read the forums, maybe catch something on Hulu.

    Enjoy your day, gentlefolk.

Yeah, like I said, in all of the patch days in various MMOs I've played, this is pretty average. Sadly.

i find it hard to belive a big company like turbine didnet have 1 person smart enough on its team to say "hey lets make a torrent and make sure all people in the world can update same time with no loss of time and our servers will not have such a big load!!! "

Sapience, if this is as expected, Turbine should be ashamed and embarassed over their dismal expectations even on a crowded launch day. I've been a happy customer since the original Beta, this is the absolute first time I have ever been disappointed in Turbine and it's beyond a little disappointment, it's digust.

Well, I'll be! I was just about to subject you all to the type of bad poetry that would make Vogons look positively brilliant in comparison, and my launcher finally connected and is patching. To the rest of you, have hope! Both because you will connect, and because you've been spared more lousy limericks. :-)

For those who are still wondering about what voodoo is required, ... nothing. I'd left my launcher open, had something on the order of 12,387,789 failed connection attempts, and .. *POOF*... now it's working. Quickly, too.

    See you in game soon!

    Sapience,
In past major updates there have been pre-load patches downloadable before launch day. Why has Turbine gotten away from doing this? It seems to me that much of the current situation could have been avoided had you all continued to make the pre-loads. I would like to make the suggestion that you get back to doing the pre-loads for future expansions and large updates.

My client_[files] in Lotro folder show timestamp of today, about 3PM, - does it mean that they are updated/patched?

I could buy this line of reasoning - if I was able to access non-RoI content during my normal playtime(IE: now).
