Try restarting the launcher and running it as administrator, if not then its likely that everyone are hitting the patch server all at once and stalling out the launcher connection
My launcher needed like 5 mins...Just wait a bit.
Yes it is because of high demand. A server has a max number of connections it can use, there is both a hard max and a soft one the sys admin can set to keep the server from getting swamped.
Mine is, too... I'm really hoping it is just the high demands on the servers causing it, because I've never had this problem in any previous update. I'll cry if I can't go to Rohan.![]()

must be the high demand, remember "Connection issues" require 2 to tango.
I really don't think that the servers are back online.... That's why we can't get in...

Mine was stuck on Examine Programs, but has moved on to being stuck on Examine Game Data.
I had the exact same problem earlier.
Simply restarting the launcher a few times worked for me, and I am currently patching![]()

Try disabling the firewall/antivirus if running as administrator doesn't work. That did the trick for me.
you are not 'stuck' there, it is examining programs. This takes some time.

Typical patch day connection problems. All you need is patience.
I've restarted a few times and have actually downloaded all that can be downloaded at this time.
Can't log in to the game just yet though, cause servers are not up and running (even though you CAN download patch).
well.. mine was stuck there and I closed it and restarted it and it was no longer stuck there.. so, i'd say it was stuck and while it was stuck there I read an article by turbine describing a few ways to fix the "stuck there" issue, so I believe its a well known, real, "stuck there" issue..

similar problem. Been waiting since about 6min after server announcement.

Hi,
I fixed mine. Its a file corruption.
Stop the update (kill it in Task manager too).
Go to your LOTRO folder.
Look for a file with a .jrnl extension.
Move this file AND its associated .dat to somewhere else.
Restart LOTRO.
For me it was these two files 'client_gamelogic.dat' and 'client_gamelogic.dat.jrnl'.

Day and a half and still stuck on examine game data...
Will this never end?
Day 2, I am STILL unable to get through the "Examine Game Data" (Status = waiting) for hours and hours! Sorry, I do not have time to sit here half a day, or even all day to see if it will complete. I have left it sitting each day for 3-4 hours at various times while I go do other things, only to come back and see there is no progress!
I have restarted the game client countless times, tried at different hours from early morning to late night.
I have reinstalled the game and will not entertain the idea of trying that again.
This is not an issue with my ISP, network setting, etc, as I can log into all the other online games I play just fine. This is clearly an issue on Turbine's part.
The last time I was able to log into LOTRO was Sunday Oct 14) with no issues, there is nothing more for me to do accept contact account support via phone and figure out what they want to do about things. Sorry, I know this is a pretty heated topic, but for many of us who do not have all day to sit around and wait, I think this issue is becoming beyond frustrating.

I forgot to mention, that I did the reinstall this morning (Oct 16) after doing a clean uninstall of the game off my system. I reinstalled the game from the download files that I place on my portable backup drive. I saw a few posts on here were ppl are trying silly things like disabling their firewalls, moving XYZ files around, delete this, wave a wand here, do steps 1-5, and cross your fingers. Really foolish, unless someone from Turbine's tech support actually instructs you to do anything like disabling a firewall, your just asking for more issues.
Trying a repair also did not work for me (tried that early afternoon today (Oct 16) after doing a clean reinstall.
