    Return from the Woods

Hullo, I'm a possibly returning player from... two, maybe... almost three years ago? I stopped playing soon after the game went F2P and after much wandering, have found myself more and more missing this world. It's been so long, I hardly think anyone that knew Mithuial (Elf, minstrel) or Inis (guardian, woman) would still be about, so it's a bit daunting and refreshing I guess for the new start.

I'm mainly--or I was--settled on Landroval. How is the rp scene there? Are there any good hotspots and kinships still about that aren't Bree focused?

I'd like to see a bigger push for rp happening in the Elf areas... Imladris, Lorien, Mirkwood--I realize that these can be a beast for lower levels to get to! But in the same token, do players that are of suitable level bother?

    Welcome back to Middle-earth

If you are looking for RP in other places other than just Bree, I highly suggest you at least try the only Official English-speaking server of LotRO, Laurelin-[RP] especially if you want to make a fresh start and see what this server has to offer

As I said, in another thread, there are Hobbits at the Michel Delving Market looking for goods to buy and/or trade, more of them in the Green Dragon inn, having a good time, dancing, merrymaking, eating/drinking telling stories & riddles and last but not least, having great fun with fireworks!

Dwarves under the mountains in Thorin's Hall, with their Ales, Tales & Riddles and expeditions to distand lands

Elves, gather in the Hall of Fire in Imladris for merryment; song, praise and to reflect upon their thoughts.
Bathe in the beauty of Nature, taking rest from Her and returning the favour with songs and blessings. Appreciating the Wilderness
Others of their kind often travel under the starlight, passing through the woods, singing as they walk on the way to the havens, accompanying those leaving Middle-earth and sailing to the West. The passing/fading of the Firstborn

Far to the South, in the land of the Horse-Lords, men and women of Rohan in the fields and villages. And in the meadhalls where the Eorlingas gather in the presence of their marshal/lord to drink, boast, tell stories and others around feasted, drank and sung

Have a look at the RP Webportal Laurelin Archives and the forums if you like. You will get a better idea about the server that way

I have played on other servers (included Landroval) and from my experience there is this kind of push (and more than just that, as it actually works and it isnt just an effort) on other places you seek for here on Laurelin. A lot of Elf rpers there actually care and usually are in their havens, such as Celondim, Dullond, Imladris. The same can be said for Hobbits, Dwarves and other rpers of different peoples of Middle-earth such as those who rp a man/woman from Rohan now are finally there

Farewell wherever you fare and good fortune

Landroval has plenty of RP, ranging from "light", concert or tavern RP, to "heavy", more serious, lore-faithful RP. It takes some time to find the latter, however. You can look on the forums or ask around in-game, but there is no heavy RP elf kin on Landroval now, that I know of. There are a few man and dwarf ones, though.

I spent three weeks on Laurelin this summer and found the RP to be, in general, much more serious and lore-faithful, as "Cris" mentions. And how refreshing it was to see only Middle-earth-friendly names! (Although they are not all so strict over there-- I saw a marvelous musical presentation of "The Hobbit" which nevertheless included the Bilbo/Gollum episode, presenting a challenge for RPers.)

However, as a US Pacific time person, I was very lonely, I coudn't attend any of the events that "Cris" links to. The only time I met other RPers was on the weekends. So for me, Landroval is a better choice. I suggest trying out both, seeing which suits you better!

Thank you both for taking the time to pop by my thread, and the information!

I will definitely poke about and see how my luck goes.

    Good suggestions from both!

Keep in mind as well that just because a heavy-RP kin for Elves does not exist at the moment, doesn't mean that one can't. Nothing stopping a person from starting one up themselves. Just keep in mind like all endeavors started fresh it will take some time, work, and dedication before something might catch on.

Best of luck choosing a server.

    Berteus makes a good point

As I mentioned in another thread I found you in: play on both. If you're the leader type with time, you could very well start a new Elf RP experience on Landroval, since it lacks one but many people would like it. If I were not already so invested in my main I would likely do it, myself. There /is/ Tirn en Taur on Landroval, but they are a lot smaller than they were in earlier years.

Laurelin seems to have Elf RP, but of what quality I do not know. Timezone is important to consider, too.

While Laurelin on a whole may have more Tolkien-like RP, to say that such a thing is rare on Landroval is not exactly true. We just have so many RPers, many of them light and medium, that sometimes the heavier ones interested in lore get lost in the background.

But, in the end, play on both, and don't take anyone's words here, myself included, as truth; rather discover what you find as truth yourself.

    Best of luck!
