    Leveling Group - Landroval

With the introduction of an XP disabler, there's an opportunity to form a group of players with characters that all level at about the same rate.

The advantage of such a group is that, when it comes to group content, the members of the group can get together to go through it at something near the appropriate level.

To be honest, I am interested in a group that will take on the challenges of middle earth at something below "on level" for a region. I have found that even "on level" does not provide much of an interesting challenge. I think that something nearer to 5 levels below content would be better.

I've created a character, Alphred, on Landroval, that I intend to role-play my way through the content of Middle Earth, keeping him about 5 levels below the content of the area he is adventuring in. He'll start in Little Delving as soon as Update 9 is released. As an example, he'll still be Level 5 when he gets to Needlehole and needs to run The Gift of the North instance. I'll be hoping to have a group that will allow us to pull together a fellowship of Level 5 characters to do this instance as a full fellowship.

I'll also hope to have a companion or two at Tuckborough dealing with the bears, and when tackling the Warg at Budgeford, who will be a true monster to what I expect will be by then a group of Level 7 characters.

I hope to be exploring the Old Forest at Levels 10 through 12, and be in the Barrow Downs at Level 15. At the Barrow Downs, I look forward to forming up some fellowships to enter each of the 10 barrows - and actually play them as fellowship instances. The barrows in the North Barrows should be a challenge for a small fellowship. The South Barrows will require a full fellowship.

This won't be shoot-loot-and-scoot adventuring, but "walk and talk" roleplaying, for the most part.

Iffen you have an interest in this, Alphred will start his adventures as soon as Update 9 is released and the new XP disabler is in the stores.

    On Landroval . . . as I said.

I am going on an adventure.

    Club Eclair begins today.

We are starting with a group level cap of Level 6 as we introduce our characters to the world and get organized.

You can find details in the Landroval forum for Club Eclair.

This sounds very interesting to me. I've recently reopened my LOTRO account after having been gone for a couple of years. My main server back in the day was Brandywine and all of my characters are there. I'm running my account as FTP for now but am willing to pay to make it VIP if I can find some fun in the game other than soloing. My highest characters on brandywine are all in their mid 30's, so there is so much of this game I have not experienced but would love to see. I have spent the past couple of days deciding where I would like to play and looking for a server that would offer me the most fun. Hoping to get into a Kin or at least find a server that offered people in the low levels to play with. This little RP group of yours sounds like the very opportunity for some fun I've been looking for.

I've not done a lot of MMO RP, but have always been interested in running an RP character, just not a lot of RP going on in most of the MMO's I've played. I have played role playing games all my life so I'm not new to RP, just RP in online games.

Anyway is it too late to join? What time zone are you mostly in, (I live in CST zone?) I see you have a bunch of hobbits and a couple Dwarves. I'd be interested in playing a dwarf or a Human. For class I'm interested in a guardian, champion, Captain or Lore master. All four are classes I enjoy and would like to level, (not all in this group.) whichever one would be most benefit to the group or I'll just pick one.

Since you're all starting in the shire, I'll need to work up a backstory as to why my human or dwarf are there, but I'd wait for that until after I decide on my class.

Anyway, I'd love to get in on this if it's still possible. Let me know and I'll do what I need to in order to catch up.

It will never be too late to catch up.

However, as things stand now, we are merely a step or two down the trail. There's no catching up to do. Create a character, cap it at Level 6, and say hello.

I think we're mostly American, but scattered across time zones. For this group, it does not matter a lot. We do not all play at the same time. We play at the same level, and call upon others as needed.

Yesterday, there were some of us adventuring in Needlehole, and others in Tuckborough, and some crafting in Michel Delving at the same time. It was a good evening. The Shire has its dangers for a 6th level character. It was good to have company.

And the roleplaying - the "walk and talk" adventures - have been great.

Cool. I made a human Captain, named Brodarik. he is level 4 atm, and will get the exp tool thingy tomorrow to stop him at level 6. I'll also join the channel when I log back into him. Looking forward to it. Now to just get him moved to the Shire.

It'd be a pleasure to have you.

This weekend we are taking on our first big challenge - "A gift to the north" - a level 11 small fellowship quest we will be tackling at 6th level. We'll have to use our limited skills at peak efficiency here. We will take several runs over the weekend (in groups of three).

Obviously, them evil dwarfs captured more than one troll.

Also, the rewards one gets will actually be useful.

Equipment - food, potions - are actually going to be important.

It was a pleasure buying - from a vendor - a full suit of Level 5 armor and thinking of it as "elite gear".

I bought it after a pair of wolves nearly did me in.

It is also a pleasure to know what my skills are - rather than accumulating skills faster than I can learn them.

Anyway, I am looking forward to the weekend, and welcome to the club.

(Landroval) Club Elair Update 1 on January 14 - increasing level cap to Level 8

    Club Eclair - Update 1 - January 14

There were places at the Bounds where even Bounders feared to tread. Update 1 opens the whole of the Shire to Club Eclair.

Level Cap Increase to Level 8

    New Group Content
    &- The Brigands at Narrowcleave
&- The Rescue of Gerebert Took
    &- The Warg at Budgeford
&- The Spiders in the Quarry
&- The Goblins of the Greenfields

    New Game Features
    &- Crafted Armor, Weapons, Jewelry
&- Slot your First Virtue at the Bard in Michel Delving.

Note: Some Eclairians have found it satisfying that quest rewards are actually useful and are making a personal decision to limit their characters to found and rewarded armor, weapons, and jewelry. Club Eclair has no formal rule regarding what a character can wear or use, but I thought I would mention this as an option.

Club Eclair is an adventure role-playing club for those who enjoy challenging role-play walk-and-talk adventure. We use the XP Disabler to establish a group level cap and adventure where the quests are chalenging and nothing is more valuable than a friend at your side. To join or monitor Club Eclair in-game, type "/joinchannel club-eclair"

We are making no firm commitments about the epic storyline. However, I am suspecting that when we get to a epic quests there will be some subset of Eclarians who will do them.

One of the trends that is developing is that players tend to follow quest strings through in a roleplaying mode. This is a prediction, not a plan. More pecisely, I suspect some Eclairians will set aside the quests for each book until they can complete all of them, then role-play through that book as a complete story.

I expect the same for other quest lines such as Aragorn's stone.

    I would encourage it.

You can find out more of what we are doing by visiting the Landroval forums . . . specifically this thread:

    http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.p...adventure-club.

We have increased our level cap to Level 8 - opening up all but 3 quests in the Shire. We are not only following existing quests but making up some of our own - such as (at Level 6) killing one of the queen spiders in The Quary. We actually succeeded with the mission, but were driven out by her brood. (Level 6 characters seem to have an awfully large draw radius when in a pit with a bunch of Level 12 spiders.) A larger group of us, at a later date, actually went into the tunnels. We were doing well - until we got split up, than the spiders chased us out again.

Note: In all my years of paying, I never knew - until visiting the quary with 6th level characters - that a queen can summon other spiders by rubbing its legs together. Queens never lived long enough before. I was doing fine - until that happened.

We ended up running the instance "A Gift to the North" in the Shire a dozen times - at Level 6 - to get everybody through it. Different people each time. Of course, we simply modified the story to say that the dwarfs had taken more than one troll and hid them in different camps.

These are all walk-and-talk adventures. If that is the type of adventure you are interested in, then you are welcome to join us. The more members we have, the easier it will be for any member to find partners when they want to have an adventure. Any time there is two or more people on - they can trust that the other members are at the same level and they can go on an adventure.

Note: we are organizing a warg hunt in Budgeford on Wednesday. And I'm thinking we might actually try to find that crystal skull in the quary this weekend, or raid the goblin camps north of Brockenborings, or both.
