Custom Forum Signatures

Our kinship has been working on putting custom sigs together for our forums but I went to add it here and the graphic simply would not display. Are custom sigs not supported by the LOTRO forums? I can display the image in the message body but not as part of the sig. Any ideas?

No images, regardless of size, are allowed in signatures on these official forums.

The exception in the past has been for character signature images generated by lotro.com, but those will no longer be available after next month's community site overhaul.

Awwww, really? Bummer.
I guess thats because all the signatures are wrong anyway (crafting masteries).

I do hope they will add something like it later though, coz the idea was a good one.

There is currently no plan to replace the forum signatures. It's unlikely we'll add the ability for players to add custom images.

I think if you look at the signature image you designed (which is really good, by the way) you'll see it's much much larger than you actual post. Imagine a forum where every post is like that. Small post, large image that is always the same.

I think if you look at the signature image you designed (which is really good, by the way) you'll see it's much much larger than you actual post. Imagine a forum where every post is like that. Small post, large image that is always the same.

Sapience has a point there. As much as I like a cool image - I have been on forums which did support images in signatures, and it ended up with me using adblock to filter them out, because the boards became unreadable.

One of the forums I frequent allows Signatures, with images, but there are size restrictions in place that the system checks for. Pretty sure their forums on based on VBulletin as well, so maybe an eventual option here.

Handling forum signatures and yes, having size restrictions for them, is not exactly groundbreaking technology. Everyone else has figured this out about 20 years ago. It astounds me that it's something we actually need to talk about.

Nope. The existing signatures go away.

The only option is to store a custom signature on a image hosting site. Include the signature within the body of the post. Enough people start doing that Turbine will probably disable the ability to include images within our posts.

My understanding is that the use of an image as a signature outside of the actual signature space [and thus any custom images] is prohibited as a matter of policy. Let us not push the matter so that threads may continue to have images where appropriate.

Suddenly it occurs to me the number of players who's posts I identify with their character, not their forum name. Perhaps some kind of one-time automated transition could be made? At <date> For all signatures: If there is an old character image in the signature. See what character name generated it, and convert it to the characters name in text. Nothing more.
