It looks like most of the forums issues on this end are cleared up so we should be able to keep popping in and updating you with new information as we have it.

We've just been told that they "are investigating an issue with the patch servers." What about all the other issues that were appearing before that? The various error messages, crashes, inabilities to patch, etc. etc. These have been ongoing all day and started long before the patch server error issue. Are these being investigated also?

And what is the excuse for taking at least an hour to even post to Twitter? Surely on a patch day there should be people monitoring patch and game servers (and reading forums/twitter, etc) and be responding to issues almost instantly? Added with all the other in-game issues, like lag, etc. it really makes Turbine look like a company has no care about the state of Lotro at all.
Reading through this thread, I came to this one, and I'm sorry but I just couldn't help but to
LOL at this one. Haaahaaahaa! Yes, patching does appear to be a big bad NO, NO for many of us right now, including myself.
*big sigh!* :-/
One can only sit, read the forums..... aaand wait. *big sigh!*
At least four posts in this thread just disappeared into thin air. It must be that time of the month.

With the exception of 3 threads that were in violation of the community guidelines, and a handful of posts in this thread also guilty of the same, nothing has been deleted. All reports of techinical issues have been moved to the technical support forums where one would expect to find reports of this kind.
Everything flows through the patch servers when logging in. It is the first step in the process, "Examining programs" is a check against the patch servers to validate that the game is correctly patched.
There have been people in and playing since the servers came back up at 11AM. A great many in fact, however the issues are clearly preventing a large number from patching or logging in or even logging back in if they should leave the game.
We're investigating, but do not have a clear cut cause for the issue at this time.
Which came in one language AFTER the adverts for the new Bree marketplace which appeared in three languages.
The last time this happened, I was very patient, didn't let it bother me and was very grateful for the free TP which I thought was an unnecessary gesture on Turbine's part. However, when they are still sending out adverts for an update we can't access, that's pathetic. A new low.
Logged in fine after patching a couple of hours ago, logged out and now I am stuck on login.
Maybe this could be useful to some people?

Hmmm.... I don't want to try it. If I have to sit through hours of patching again today I think I'm going to explode.
Do like the link though, and it will defintley be handy to some.

yes, as I mentioned in the comment you quoted, those who were in and later logged out cannot log back in. This is due to the patch server issue. Everything requires a patch server check to validate the install before logging in. If the patch server is unavailable, you cannot continue through the initialization or any other portion of the login process.
DO NOT DO THIS.
At the moment we are working to identify the specific issue, but there is currently nothing you can do on your end to address or resolve this issue. There is no point in making any changes unless or until you hear otherwise from us.
At this moment the above solution WILL NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE.

Have you guys at Turbine ever heard of advanced network management techniques aimed at providing RESILIENCY and REDUNDANCY .. these advanced techniques were perfected in the 1970s, maybe you should learn from them.
It's asinine there's a single point of failure on a system by your own admission is critical to your users' ability to access the services they pay for.

I was in game, was doing Hytbold dailies and my first suspicion that something was wrong was Dressage was broken again. Then a World Broadcast shutdown message appeared. I wish I could remember exactly what it was, but it went something in the way of thank you for trying out our new something or other.
&&&'s abounded all around from people who were in Rohan. I logged over to an ALT and never got kicked out of the game. When I hard logged, I couldn't get back in. That was at approximately 12:35 EST.
So who the hell knows what happened.

I think its bull that they think everyone in the world has facebook or twitter accounts. I dont, so the only way for me to get ANY info is by coming to the forums to find out why I cant login today. Bad enough my roomie and I cant stay in the game longer then an hour (hour and a half when lucky) at a time.
Kiss my lily white backside if you think I have to have fb or twit.
You know what game no one is complaining about patching in right now? http://www.cityofheroes.com/en/sunset.php just saying, downtime happens and it's not the end of the world. It will be up when they get it fixed and no amount of conspiracy theories or pointing out that everyone here is also a computer programmer that manages our very own MMOs flawlessly is gonna speed it up. See ya in game ;-)
Here's what worked for me (patching right now):
Open your launcher, go to settings, then proxy settings. Set to "No proxy". Restart your launcher.
Hope this helps!![]()
