Interesting thread. Brings back some memories. Lots of great players on Ridder who were not necessary my "mentors", but definitely taught me to be better.

Ruby, Alsander, Amazing, Rikz, Krime, Shawty, Winterfell, Dalmok and a few others. Heck, I remember when Adino soloed....

I guess I will give Credit to Bohemond too, he taught me the primary use for /ooc is to rage at bad freeps/creeps when you got zerged or were left standing by yourself as freeps ran away.

Awesome thread! My mentor would have to be Greymore on Elendilmir years ago when lotro launched. 50 was the cap. Nobody used daggers because they were power sinks. MACES BABY!!! Anyways, he sent me a pity invite to his freep raid after i got rolled soloing out there and it was the real reason I have kept playing tbh. Lotro w/o moors is lame. He was an aussie I believe and would straight up cuss you out and boot raid members for not listening. He was hilarious.

On Riddermark I would have to say the Mayor of the Ratfolk in HH. He let me in on all the little sneaky tricks. He told me "just attack me when you think you are alone and I'll have one of my hunter, burg or any elf buddies attack you in the middle of town". I thought he was full of it at first, but low and behold!!!! The Mayor does fullfil his end of the bargain. Costs me 50 pints of ale every day though. Hes got a problem. I do love slaying them sneaky HH campers though!!! LOL!!! I would also like to credit the mayor for me being the best keyboard turner to ever spill blood in the moors lol.

    See you guys soon.

I don't really have a mentor. I learned much of my toons strengths and weaknesses by trial and error. While I was on this slow and painful path there were many people who inspired me to play different classes and gave me tips along the way. I shall list some of them here.

Much like the op I ended up on this server cause it was at the top of the list.

My first toon in the moors was a freever named tigro I hadn't even made it out of grams when I met a sweet looking spider named venomous. He asked if I would help him transfer items to an alt. I'd no idea what he was talking about but said yes. Next thing I know I was given a trade prompt and a load of loot followed. It was at this moment I knew this was the game for me, if people in this game trusted others enough to give a stranger their loot, then these were the type of people I wanted to play with.

After about a week of getting my ### handed to me by every freep I crossed I decided it was time for a new class. CCCP and the Care Bears seemed to do best against the freeps those days. These tribes were comprised mostly of a tall arrow shooting/angry shouting class that got a sweet purple power up.(I knew it was a sweet power up cause it was purple) I was hesitant to roll this class as I didn't have any friends and needed a class that was good solo. That's when I saw Blackmass...

Blackmass was a badass defiler who fearlessly took on groups of freeps while healing every creep in sight. Tired of getting beat I wanted a toon that could kick freep ### and help others. I rolled Tathiss so I too could be like Blackmass...

Germs seemed to be having all the fun in the world on his warg. Sneaking up on freeps, ripping them to shreds and making a quick getaway. After my attempt at being Blackmass I knew there was more to being successful than rolling the right class, one must also know what skills to use and when. I did my best to get these secrets out of him...I suppose he told me something cause I had a blast on my warg. One thing I do remember him saying was Shadow Howler was the only skill one ever need buy from the store. He was right too cause none of my other toons could get that skill...:P

Grimbash showed me the basics of a WL. Ghash tought me how to pretend I was a fearless reaver while playing a wl. After I hit r9 Rhine beat me into shape real fast.

What little I know of raiding came from aza. He was kind enough to let me tag along on his quest to defeat Adino. From him I also learned the common freep pathways and many of the unofficial map locations.

Lastly Crazy One inspired me to play the BA he was never afraid to charge a group of freeps if the thought a kill could be had.

Many others gave me tips, invited me to groups, and answered my questions in ooc, but alas I don't remember them all. Someone told me Venomous wasn't a dude, but it was too late. Every time I see that spider I think Hey! there's that chill fellow I met back when I first started.

I could name so many people in this thread that helped me along the way

People were not nice to me and my nub ways when I started coming out on my RK when Ridder was shiny new.I think my first time out Bricks told me I was awful and should leave and never come back.lol I don't remember Alsander being very nice either

I first and foremost have to say Rubicon.Rubi was the best of the best and he never once told me I was terrible, instead he invested a lot of time teaching me,duoing with me,and analyzing every fight after it happened to discuss what we did wrong or what we could've done better.Rubi always told me I just didn't have any confidence in my playing, which was very true and made sure to compliment the things I did right and instead of just telling me I was a bad player told me what I could do different that might help. Also duoing my ranks with Rubi made me a better player overall because he taught me to always be situationally aware because we couldn't always type fast enough to co-op things.Rubi was my best mentor for moors and even in the dreaded pve lol.I really owe all my improvement to Rubi being patient and giving me the confidence to learn and keep playing.<3

Also I have to say Kyla was a huge wealth of knowledge in learning to be a better player. She has the patience of a saint and is hands down one of the most skilled players I have ever played with. She is awesome at giving advice and help without being condescending and knew how to make any fight one we could win.

And lastly my cappie mentors.Cariance.LBF,and Mayo.I didn't know anything about captains and their builds and those guys answered endless questions and gave every piece of advice they had to help me.And despite my huge handicap of being a key-turner I ended up being a pretty decent captain when all was said and done because I had 3 of the best captains and 3 of the nicest guys to learn from. That they put up with my endless nubness and tells is nothing short of amazing and I am so grateful for that. Also I am so stealing this thread for E.Thanks Rubi

I think I will go cry myself to sleep in nostalgia now. And hai, Boom. I remember years back I got up the confidence to ask you to heal a OD pug for me and my nub kin. You shot em down, cold blooded "no". You turned out to be a pretty chill person. First impressions arent always what they seem

I first started playing on creep side back in Late MoM or early SoM, can't remember. I got a War-leader to rank 3, then I forgot my login so I didn't play till Ridder opened up. Started playing my BA, and basically my mentor was Tastey. He taught me all the basics of the BA and then told me to "piss off" and make something of it.

I started Guard, maybe January last year, had no mentor till I got till R8, was just me running in and getting what kills I could before dying. Then Shawty and Rhine helped me out a bit and gave me a few pointers on how to play effectively.

If anyone who didn't know, Shawty quit playing to spend time with his daughter.

The first day I set foot in the moors Orchunter told me to ditch my shield and go OP, although I think I still used a third ager for a while. I also raid babied with Adino through r5. Pretty much everything else was on my own.

Creepside, scavenged for maps and raided with Legion, learned how to fight as a group from them.

Think my biggest mentors were anybody that could beat me each time or I had lost to alot. challenged me to perfect my skills/rotations/builds to eventually come out on top

but out of everybody the 2 people that pushed me the hardest to get better and taught me so much would be Toebite and a Reaver that was on my original server and E under the name Nightmarez. They made me what I was in Lotro when I played it.

Probably my mentor was Vastrid. I ended up in a raid at rank 2 and saw this hunter spamming away with IPS knocking Arshbok to the point of running away and I thought well ****, I need to talk to this guy. He got me into traiting fleetness (Which I now love in and out of the moors). He told me how to most effectively deed with Wargs, and BA's especially. When I finally got to my BA after losing ViP, and met him on the battlefield I knew exactly what he was going to do, and saw I had little to stop it.

Adino helped me learn the map & features of different classes better when I was just starting to play the Moors.
LBF/Dumptruck has impressed me with his one-man-army strategy. I love playing solo. Alsander and Giggle also belong to this category: DEADLY.
Costs has been my brother-in-arms in terms of outwitting the opponents: using the terrain to your advantage, knowing when to retreat and how to lure your opponents into traps, picking the right targets. Since most people believe that the only correct way of playing is "charge midlessly-(get some renown) - die-charge again", it was an inspiration to me to see that some players are employing an absolutely different strategy.
Screamokid showed me how powerful champs can be if played and geared properly.
Eliadon has always been reminding me how not to play a champ by showing off his gear (and even sending me screenshots of it), having a high rank and failing terribly pretty much all the time, except for situations when his group had a commanding advantage in numbers and had a chance to heal-stack. My mount is named after him.
Hraesvelgr proved that wargs can actually be deadly: when none of them could challenge me during ROI, this wargie wasn't afraid to fight me 1 vs 1 and win.
Synapse keeps reminding me that this game is not only about competiviness and achievements; it is also about having a good time and meeting interesting people.
Rubi and Gurd are gods when it comes to small-grouping. With them you just don't die.
Adangorn will always come to one's rescue and generously share that awesome crit buff!
Thegoat for his relaxed approach: just walk around and don't bother about getting killed! Love this attitude from time to time.

    And many-many more...

Nothing against anyone here but I started out in the moors freeping (don't we all) on BW, and so my mentors were there:
    For Raiding: Shanehere(champ), Scruffgrim(dorf hunter), Sugarpie(LM), Jmez(htr), Yelk(htr) and Winterfell(mini).
Learning "how to win" in SoM days was challenging on freepside when facing 2+ creep raids but learning how to have fun was an even greater lesson...no one better than Shanehere and Sugarpie.

For how to play a warden: Eolar (famous hunter here on RM) and Fallarden.
How to be a one man wrecking crew: Gloinfast (guard)

The creeps that I loved to hate:
Raiding: Meregash (R15 now) and Evilspinnre.
Reavers that I secretly wanted to be: Beatlejuice (R15 & led reaver raids), Slyc, Evilfred, Ravashack, Visiro, Beardpuller.
Wargs that I hated: snoopy, xkillah, thelegendarygoat

Here on RM, I put more weight on the "funness" factor and those people know who they are b/c I'm sending them tells right now asking to get in their group! The ones that are not playing anymore...big list but: Shawty, Healacreep, Gangly, real 8lf, akara, etc.

Shtako! why can i remember these friggin names from 4 yrs ago but I need to look at my calendar daily to see when my next meeting is???

I taught myself how to cope with the rampant zerging, QQing and overall crappiness that is the Riddermoors. On creepside, when I started playing on Riddermark I was one of the highest ranked wargs, so there really wasn't anyone to learn from. On freepside, I didn't know anyone when I started pvping on Nomere, so there was no one whom I could ask for help. Though with respect to my champ, Shiro and Jhoan answered numerous questions.

Ahh the old stick your staff/tally whacker stick in the air plan! Obviously that's why he ran away to TR. That plan beams down unicorns with laser beams that shoot deadly poisonous bubbles!

Anywho... My mentor was Vim when he told me to not trait 4 red and 3 blue just after I hit rank 8. He taught me how to mouse turn and other huntery things as well.
I would like however, to thank those Coldfell Hunters as well, they did a smashing job on showing me how to fire a stick at things!
