Also the lack of 'major' outrage on the forums is also telling.

Probably safe to say this was the least anticipated and cared about expansion of all time for any established MMO.

I agree. It is sadly very telling about this release.

I can understand that serious troubles (server, power down, ..) can delay HD (for a day or 2) BUT I would expect that someone from Turbine could just give SOME INFORMATION to the players in the official Forum (>> here).

The mmo community is turning into some type of entitlement state it is sad to watch. Crying and whining a video game will be delayed a day or three is pathetic. Xbox one comes out Friday so I'm losing a day of helms deep, did I think once about coming on a forum and crying and whining about it? Nope sure didn't. Did I think once about leaving the game because a thunderstorm knocked out power and their backup power failed ? Nope. Some people need to grow up! Lotro has one of the better communities in all of mmos it's unfortunately it does have a small fridge group of sad losers who cry about stuff like this.

I don't believe for a second the delay has anything to do with bounder's tokens. With all the trouble they had last night they'd be NUTS to release it today. They'd just be asking for server crashes, rollbacks, and staff too tired to think straight enough to avoid making things worse.

That said, I took advantage of the opportunity to spend my bounder's tokens this morning. :-)

    Heeey HO!

It's sad that they came across this unexpected error. And I offer them my support and patience while they try to address this issue. Meanwhile. Why don't we all just step away from our comfortable chairs, fetch something to eat. Get some tea. Maybe go out with the dog for a walk. Hey, I hear the gym closes at 8? Maybe just watch a movie while the Turbine staff try their hardest to bring the servers back up. Who knows. We might get good news and see the expansion fully available in a hour or two! Let's be hopeful and good spirited. That's what I aim to do and then, when this is over... I can return to my dwarf armorsmith and continue my adventuring!

The "someone" is Sapience, who tweeted about thirty minutes ago that he was dealing with bad weather and bad traffic. Once he gets to work I expect there will have to be meetings, then meetings about meetings, then somebody will have to consult a Magic 8 Ball, then somebody else will have to throw a 10-sided die.

After that, mayhap, they'll let him post something. We might all just as well get comfortable.

Seriously it is like this company is being run out of some guys basement.
Supposedly, Twitter and Facebook have more people checking them than the forums, so they use those resources for minute by minute announcements.

Frankly, I have been on their Facebook page since the servers and, as long as I am reading the Lotro responses, its pretty good. Now, the people following them? SIGH.

About the IT guys. Being an IT guy myself, but not at Turbine, frankly, you get paid to be on-call 24/7/365. Answering is one of the challenges that differentiates the children from the adults. Coming up with solutions to those problems is what you can put on your resume. What they lost was their last chance at a good nights sleep before HD release. With the expansion due out today, they were expecting a rocking LONG week of problems. It just started early.

I was surprised to see that DDO and the other Turbine games also were down. I doubt the IT guys on those other games were tasked with the HD roll out, so they probably were backups to the Lotro guys. But, all of them are now getting cooked by suits from WB in a small sweaty room with bright lights right now, explaining how Turbine lost money from customers not being able to play their product.

Oh and Spartikus3... I hear ya man. But, I have yet to see that Turbine did not have those things in place. My rollback was about half an hour.

But i was expecting this. Nearly every update from Lotro has issues or are delayed. And probably, i can't use my VIP for these days! I'd like to see some in-game presents as example:
NOTE: It's not necessary to implement everything I tell!

    1. Lootbox bonus. (+65% chance to get a lootbox from kills) (This lasts 3 days)
    2. Max commendations granted for every player on the world. So they can buy things their selves.
    3. 1500 Turbine Points for every player who's VIP or Premium. (750 Turbine points for F2P'ers)
    <snip>
    1500 TP? yes please!

On one hand, the reason why info isn't seen much in the forums is simply because they reach a lot more people in Social Media than they do here. It's probably a minor thing, but if all hands are on deck and every precious minute counts, you go for the most efficient way to get the word out.

Also, people who pre-order, technically, you didn't pay for a release date or advance access to the xpac, you paid earlier (like me) to get other free stuff along with access to the xpac that everyone else will get (once they purchase).

But, the IT guy is right, there is something to be said about contingencies, and this should serve as a HUGE wake-up call to them about having these backups in place, unless of course the whole storm thing is so bad (Not American, don't know).

I take it you have him friended? Or was that Twitter.

Kinda makes me concerned they had much more than a storm up there. And WE in Illinous were the ones with 5 dead from tornados 30 minutes south of here.

Yes, sorry to hear that. Tornadoes are terrifying.

They may also have to bring up the QA and Dev environments yet, and file servers, and then they need to verify that everything is still ready for deployment. Once everything was deployed, staff would still be expected to put in longer hours to react to any game-breaking bugs that were discovered.

I can understand people's disappointment, but I'd rather see Turbine show some compassion to their staff in this situation, besides the fact you don't sleep deprived zombies running your installation.
Well put. Also, they really do need to do it on ALL servers at once. They're probably not going to delay for bounders tokens. It would make more sense to just leave the bounders token trade up for another few days and take it out in the next system update post helm's deep. I seriously doubt they want their customers and dedicated gamers to feel screwed over. So until we know the full situation, why is everybody jumping to the worst conclusion. Do you ENJOY being that upset and freaking everybody out?

Any chance we'll have the chance to spend our bounder tokens before HD?

I have to second that, this is exactly why I didn't pre-order, cos I was pretty sure something like this would happen.

Wow that is impressive. You knew a huge storm would strike in the middle of November. Well I think it's safe to say the majority of players are glad players like didn't pre order. Less whining and crying in game chat.

To the complainers in this thread,

They had a power loss to the data center. They continue to deal with login issues on some servers. Get real. Relax, enjoy the extra time to work on characters before the patch goes live. Stop obsessing over the patch not going live when it was initially slated too. And, please, remember that it is just a game. Maybe, even go outside for a walk or something. The sky is not falling. The patch will likely go live in the next few days.

How did you spend over $100 on the expansion? The most expensive version is $60. Any thing you added on, like the quad quest pack isn't actually part of the expansion.

However HD will be released, just perhaps a day latter then they had planned.

To the people talking about "well the guys need to get some sleep and food and see their families..." clearly you've never worked in IT.

First off, they have more then one shift that work in the datacenters, so the people up all night are not the same ones doing the install. Plus, if you work at a DC like that, part of the paycheck is you working until what ever is broken gets fixed. That's just part of the deal.

While there's really no GOOD time for a unplanned shutdown

It's really bad luck, having such issues just a day before the planned expansion release, but please think reasonably! Can't blame Turbine of delaying HD a day or two in such circumstances.
I think it happening before rather than after launch could turn out to be a blessing in disguise-okay, possibly a very GOOD disguise. I can only imagine the over the top reactions if all the servers shut down right after the launch went live-not enough conspiracy theorists in the world to exhaust that supply.

Turbine folks need some time to shake things out and make sure the system is stable before making a decision about when to move ahead with the launch. I doubt any of us are more anxious than they are to get this sorted and deal with whatever the post launch issues will be.

Yup. And as it's now beginning of European Primetime I hope they just wait till tomorrow 6AM EST and do it then. Then HD will be up in time again for both EU and US players. Delayed by just a day.

It would be pretty rude towards the European playerbase to take Down the servers right now and have them down during the entire evening EU time, just to please some vocal US players.
