At the very least have some kind of deed attached to it to ensure you don't keep getting the same pieces. I love what you've done with BBs but this one nagging issue has me fed up with the whole system.
Sure they can do that. Also then because it will be easier to get pieces you want they will require you to get 5 - 8 teal tokens for 1 peice of jewellery. Also then about 5 gold tokens for pristine jewellery. They gotta make it harder to get somehow (or more difficult).

I'm fine with that, as long as they provide a way to choose between the current random system or the guaranteed token drop.

Similar to the way we can currently select to forward lower medals to higher ones, there could be a third state for that button to select the token drop option.

Hey all, back for a quick update.

So as one of my potential solutions, I'm going to be looking into implementing a spec-based loot system. That is, if you receive loot as a tank, it will be tank-oriented. The same goes for dps and healers (although at this point there is not a huge difference between those two). It seems like something that we would capable of doing, it just may take a bit of time on my end.

I do, however, realize that this is only a partial solution to the issues that many of you are having with RNG, so I do not plan on stopping there, and need to work some things out over here to figure out what the next best step would be. I appreciate all of the feedback so far, and I want you to know that I will be taking it into consideration as I iron out some of the remaining details.

Hey thanks for the continued communication!

Can you explain the difference in loot between say a dps cappy and tank cappy build and will you make provisions for those? Same for dps champ and tankish champ... and warden...
If you are adding pieces for each of these it would mean an awful lot of trait specific loot flying around and with the rng as it is structured could result in a frustrating grind for a dps piece if you keep getting tank pieces? Also are there any plans for making these pieces BoA?

PS: I wish my ex was able to communicate as much as you have been lately

Atm system is quite bad. It's ok if golden drops are very rare, but it ain't good that we can get same item more than once. Yesterday I just got second tanking necklace. Give me one more head or ablity to change that totally useless nice item to something else.

I think what he means is it will roll based on the current spec you've chosen that uses 1 point per upgrade (let's say dps tree). So whether you dip in another line completely using 2 points per upgrade (tank tree) will be irrelevant on the roll and you will receive a dps piece. Dps will have dps bonuses, tank will have tankish bonuses. There will be at most 3 types of trait specific loot, for the three trees and you will always get a specific type of tree loot unless you change spec.

I can understand what you are saying IF I stay in one spec the whole fight. As an Rk I now can and have switched spec inside the instances. You are implying that the chest loot will be smart enough to know what spec I am in for the instance or just for when I am opening the chests? Because as it is now isn't it based on the class itself? I was unaware that when I looted a chest in CM T2 anything the loot system was intelligent enough to know I was wearing a heal tree vs a dps tree in live as it is now. If this is the case it will require a good amount of forethought and tree switching if I am looking for dps gear and go into an instance as a healer and lets hope the overcaffeinated lootmonkeys who open the chests the minute the last kill is dead have a little courtesy

A spec-based loot system, if I understand you correctly that spec = trait, would raise quite a lot of frustration as well since the specs you use in e.g. Epic Battles wouldn't necessarily be the same as the jewelry you would want. I.e. I am in DPS spec 90% of the time in Epic Battles, but I would want to use the jewelry for raids in particular (where the edge is needed), and there I would be in healing spec 100% of the time. While the difference might not be big, it does make a difference to at least some of us if there is Finesse vs. Critical Rating (or similar) in a piece and the set bonus of course.

Combine that with the fact that it is much easier to change spec now (hurray for that!) during instances and it would be frustrating to receive a piece while you're in the 'wrong' spec.

This is not a complaint to not do this, but it is something to consider when discussing it.

Or have a token be the actual drop, which we could then trade for 1 of the 3 appropriate spec pieces. Keeps the actual drop random, allows us to target specific spec pieces and removes the problem of getting the same piece over and over. Heck if the pieces were BtA we it could open up itemization possibilities to our alts that they normally wouldn't have.

This sounds like a very nice idea, and a big step in the right direction. However, how about making it independent of spec? Instead, you could give us an option in the BB panel where we could tick what we want. While it would be nice to exclude possible tanking gear when I still need DPS gear, I wouldn't like to have to switch to tank spec to get tank loot when I'm done getting DPS gear. I have a full set of tank equipment, and I want it to be as good as possible, but I only use it in instances/raids, and don't want to use it in BBs as I much prefer DPS there.

Also, I know many healers who mostly want healing gear, but are specced for DPS in big battles. For them it wouldn't be nice if it was spec-bound.

What immediately turned me off from the Big Battles was when I finally got to Platinum I received a pocket item with identical stats to a previous Gold pocket item. The only difference was the name of the items. I haven't been back to a Big Battle since.

This also sounds like a very nice idea. Instead of [Stalwart Champion's Earring of Helm's Deep] I could get a [Champion's Earring of Helm's Deep Token] and could select the piece I want by myself.

You could even add the option of bartering a big amount of the same normal token for the corresponding Pristine token, so unlucky people can still get their Pristine items.
I.E. 20x [Champion's Necklace of Helm's Deep Token] could be bartered for a [Champion's Pristine Necklace of Helm's Deep Token], which could then be bartered for the Pristine necklace of your choice. This would be on top of the Pristine tokens dropping at the same rates as Pristine items do currently on live.

However, thinking about it, if you did use a token system, you should just unify the Pristine tokens into 1 currency which could be bartered for any Pristine item for any jewellery slot. They are already rare enough and I don't see any harm at all in us being able to choose which Pristine item we want.

The difference is the set bonus. All platinum rewards have a corresponding gold reward with the same stats, but without the set bonus.

Sorry for asking this but have you people of turbine ever heard about qualitymanagement? Now after the release of HD you think about this?

"I'm going to be looking into implementing a spec-based loot system. That is, if you receive loot as a tank, it will be tank-oriented."

This must be a joke, isn`t it? You don`t think about things like this before?
If you will implement this new loot system maybe you should think about the fact that a guardian which is tank oriented have only a very small chance to get any rewards solo in this big battles. I write this only if you forget this...

I would definitely welcome this. I am playing mostly in DPS spec and yet the majority of loot I've gotten so far is for tanking cappies. While I do play the other specs, I have multiple tank items and very few DPS or healing items (I'm not even sure there are any healing-specific items at this stage). I almost expect to get DPS gear when tanking. So, gear based on spec is a good partial solution to the RNG nightmare. It at least limits the pool of items to the spec a player actually uses (considering especially that some cappies will never spec for tanking, despite it being very viable now).

I look forward to any other solutions to RNG difficulties, though please don't implement insane medallion costs like OD (the majority of my raiding kin at the time decided not to bother getting the gear because it would take so long to grind the tokens).

Please consider adding a "loot specialization selection" option. If I'm geared as "tank" I may want to collect gear for my off-spec but still have to do runs as "tank".

The problem with tank based Big Battles loot (for example) is that nobody specs as a tank in BB's = there is zero need for a BB tank spec.

I am already wearing 8 pieces of HD teal jewelry and have another ~30 pieces in my inventory. (I saved them to see what they would look like after the patch was applied and proper Champ stats are applied)

A system similar to "seals" would have been preferable to RNG based rewards as RNG just winds up generating mountains of garbage rewards in an effort to get the gold sets. (I have yet to get a single gold item)
I plan to continue with Big Battles after the patch but my patience has already worn thin with no guarantee of a specific reward from Big Battles.
I have fun in Big Battles but once I have maxed out my BB Trait points there will be zero incentive to continue playing for random rewards... for me at least.

Everyone appreciates the continuous communication from the multiple threads you have posted on and so thank you for the reply again.

I would like to ask if you was to implement such a system, because it would be spec based would this mean I would have to be healing traited to acquire pieces such as the one below?
Would I be able to re-spec heals last minute if the above is true to gain the correct item? I am a damage dealing focused player, but prefer the healing set stats.

I am assuming the system would also be applied to BB rewards of course.

The mending set definitely has the best stats for my build which is what I personally would aim for as I strongly dislike the set bonus for the DPS set in all honesty which is why I choose stats.

Also you seem certain you are willing to discuss and potentially implement this system... If the idea was approved by the wider team... we talking months or next expansion realistically *cough cough*

EDIT: Another player hit the nail on the head for me, I must have overlooked this before writing my post.

So we'd never get the loot we want need unless we happened to be in a spec that someone else believes warrants certain stats?

What about guards, that don't have a tank stance anymore, but three DPS stances?

    Why remake the wheel?

Lotro has had a barter system, it works great. The only liability was inventory storage back before the barter wallet was created. Now the reason to move away from barter has been removed.

If you do institute a loot based upon spec system, then obviously we'd need an opportunity to change spec before loot was rewarded, the cost to respec eliminated, and ability to see the stats on the proposed loot to know which way we need to respec.

Wouldn't it be easier to just toss the items in the skirm camp NPC with tokens from various spaces?

PS: As a tank I don't want just vitality pieces. I want might and agility and other stuff to fill in the gaps in my build, particularly if my main stat is pushing diminishing returns/caps.

So to clarify on a few things, if this went in, much like with class-specific loot, it would also look at your current primary trait-line to determine your role. Since I'm pretty familiar with the Guardian, I'll use that as an example:

    Defender of the Free: Tank
    Keen Blade: DPS
    Fighter of Shadow: Tank

Based on this role, it would then provide a piece of gear with role-specific states (or set bonuses). The way that I believe it functions right now, is that you could theoretically switch trait lines before claiming/looting, and you would be provided with gear relevant to that spec (a feature I'm not necessarily opposed to). HOWEVER, I still need to play around with things a bit. Also, the intent would be to have this in more sooner than later, but I can't give definites on a release yet.

I could be wrong but judging by your response it seems to me this has been in the works for more than a few days? :P

Thanks again! I'm all done with questions for the time being.

As long as you don't end up getting 2 pieces of exactly the same loot from a skraid chest that nobody can use...

For a lot less dev time they could set up a barter vendor so when we get a duplicate piece of jewellery we could trade them in for seals & medallions (assuming the items minimum level is 95).

Letting us switch roles before looting seems like the simplest way of letting players define the type of loot tables they wish to draw from. If I primarily DPS, but due to a shortage in my kin I am forced to tank a run, I may want to get DPS loot. If it is as simple as switching to my DPS spec before looting, then that will be great. If I am locked into tank loot, that could cause problems for some players, solving one issue only to create another. Also consider that spec switching for loot choices might encourage more sales of spec slots.

I am not sure about that, i am playing Keen Blade in every single Big Battle because Defender of the Free and Fighter of Shadow seem to be completely useless in the new Battles. Its all about DPS, threat and surviveability did not play a role so far. On the other side in Raids i am going with the yellow or blue line to fit in the tanking role.

In a conclusion this means i would never get a tanking item in Big Battles. In Battles you often don't have the opportunity to switch roles before you get a platinum chest reward. (i.e. sidequests)
