    Vanimar Looking for Elven Roleplayers

    Hail fellow Laurelinites,

As the title goes, Vanimar is, as always, looking for Elven Roleplayers. We are one of the oldest Elvish Roleplaying Kinships in Laurelin. We rather wish to keep this thread as a source of information rather than an advertisement. So the first part is to those who don’t know Vanimar:

Firstly, some facts. Vanimar is a 100% elven kin. No elf-friends. No Dunedain helpers, No half elves, No cute hobit gardeners inside the house.

We do not have alliances with other kinships or third parties as we don’t need any on grounds of RP and end game content. Our numbers and inspiration at the moment seem enough to cover both.

Recruits are serving at least one, at most two months inside the kin as recruits then becoming members after an oath ceremony.

Officer staff are actively involved with the decision process and gather monthly in game to cover important topics. Matters are discussed openly and decisions only become law via majority vote.

As the Vanimar history is based on the Noldor in general, Silmarillion readers are our primary source of manpower. We regard the book as the bible of Vanimar and greatly prize its readers in recruitment. Therefore Tolkien Lore is the FIRST priority for us.

Roleplay comes second. If the Lore is the theory, RP is considered as the best way to present yourself and who you are. While we hate to enforce RP to our members and make them play what they wouldn’t play under normal circumstances, we do not tolerate them going mad whilst their rp tag are on either. We have been working to keep the Vanimar roleplay experience free of repetitive boredom and arranging events in a regular manner. Take a peek at our Third Annual Elven Ball Thread.

Vanimar is picky about recruiting. There's a set of requirements before the candidate, to be completed first. If he trusts himself in the grounds of Lore, enjoys RP and is overall a good relaxed chap, he generally feels welcome afterwards. During the 3 years of Laurelin experience, to us it's about quality and we feel experienced about whom to choose.

We do not keep inactive members on the roster and thereby cause inflation. Inactive recruits for over 30 days and inactive members for over 160 days are being expelled without notice. Also to be able to join us, you must be at least level 20. We consider this a sign of your dedication to play your character.

We have made successfull instance schedulings in the past both pre-moria and in Moria and expecting more in the near future. Vanimar only does the instance runs to equip kin members and uses a point system to distribute the loot. With the introduction of F2P this month we’re planning to return back to the field.

To Those who think that they know Vanimar well:

We know that Vanimar may have a reputation already. Since it is an elven kinship in Laurelin and has been around here for 3 years, the clashes have been expected. We had our fair share of clashes to say the least, with almost every other supposedly elven kin. Since we were a small kin when these things happened, Vanimar had to carry on generally alone. We are after all happy and proud about where we are. Quality of our members is very nice and quantity is getting ever better.

We are also aware that, to fight against people's prejudice is tough. You might have seen things you didn’t like about Vanimar in the past and you may have heard some others. You might even have seen fan fiction became popular in this kin over the Silmarillion even! You may not like what you have seen, and it's not my place to urge you to like us or what we did. But I can urge you to remain calm and help us with criticism, come and tell us if you see anything bad. Instead of bashing the kin with what you heard (and it's generally less than 1% of the total picture and reality), wouldn’t this serve the greater good much better? No one is an eternal being here and we are prone to make mistakes as are any of you. So we might both benefit from some common sense.

To those who know Vanimar well :
    We love you.

If you did like what you have seen, read or heard then come and give it a try. What we want from you is simple. To quote our former Tûr once more here,

    “If you are:

    * a mature person (maturity not solely being dependent on age)
    * a social person (you are a friendly person, not carrying silly prejudices towards other people, love chatting with others, are not afraid to ask for something if you need it, are willing to help other players of the kinship even if there's no loot to be had for you)
    * a person that plays an elven character on the Laurelin server (with a name that fits in the lore: no Killerjohn666, and no, even "Bob" is not lore appropriate for your elf)
    * a person that shares our love of Tolkien's work in general and of the elven story in particular

Then our kinship might be what you are looking for. Contact us via our new website below”

Re: Vanimar Looking for Elven Roleplayers

The text above does not answering all your questions? Here are some FAQ's about Vanimar:

Q: Is Vanimar a heavy Roleplaying kinship?

A: Yes, we are a heavy roleplaying kinship.

Q: What is your recruitment policy?

A: Vanimar is picky about recruiting. Firstly we ask candidates to apply to join us through our website Here Our priorities when selecting recruits are Tolkien Lore and Roleplaying skills. If a candidate trusts himself in the grounds of Lore, enjoys RP and is overall a good relaxed chap, he generally feels welcome afterwards. Qualities we look for in candidates are:
    * a mature person

Q: What is your policy on promotions?

A: Recruits must spend at least 2 weeks within the kin before they can be promoted to members. Recruits are promoted in Oath Ceremonies, where recruits must be accompanied by a member of Vanimar to witness and sponsor them as they recite the Vanimar Oath (found in our forums) Recruits who have not taken the Oath are not promoted to members.

Q: What is your policy inactive members?

A: We do not keep inactive members on the roster and thereby cause inflation. Inactive recruits for over 30 days and inactive members for over 160 days are being expelled without notice. However these players may return to Vanimar without the need for an application if they are to be active once again.

Q: Is it true that one must speak fluent elvish to become a member of Vanimar?

A: Absolutely Not. That is ridicilous hearsay.

Q: How often do you roleplay?

A: Scheduled roleplay sessions are usually once or twice a week. Spontaneous roleplay however, can be found daily. Spontaneous RP sessions are usually initiated through kinchat by members.

Q: Is Kinchat IC? Do I have to roleplay in kinchat?

A: No. We consider all chat channels except ''say chat'' to be OOC. Kinship, fellowship, raid and other channels are considered OOC.

Q: How about PvE and instances?

A: We do run kinship instances weekly. Instance requests come from members or can be announced through our forums. Currently we are capable of running fellowship size level 65 endgame instances. We hope to be able to launch 24 man Vanimar raids soon.

Q: What is your policy on alt characters?

A: We do not prefer to recruit underplayed alts. This is at the discretion of recruitment officers. However once recruits are allowed to bring in their elf alts to the kin without the need for any website application. Alts of members in the kin are automatically promoted to member status.

Q: What is your view on Tolkien Lore and Roleplaying?

A: As the Vanimar history is based on the Noldor in general, Silmarillion readers are our primary source of manpower. We regard the book as the bible of Vanimar and greatly prize its readers. We like to keep close as possible to Tolkien Lore in Lotro RP, but we do not enforce roleplay, or tell our members how to roleplay. However, we do guide members to stay as close as possible to Lore, even though it may be difficult due to the nature of MMO's and differing opinions of Lore and RP.

Q: Then how comes you had a Snow-elf and a daughter of Eöl in your kin?

A: We had a member playing a MERP Snow-elf several years ago, if you heard about that still you must have been talking to some very 'persistent' people. Contrary to some of the other heavy RP kins around, we are also a very relaxed in kin in that we enjoy having OOC fun together in our kinchat and on our Ventrilo server. Out of this relaxedness we also find it difficult to tell our members how to play or RP their characters, and the last thing we want is to order them around. In the case of the snow-elf we therefore chose to allow the player his own fun and letting people decide for themselves whether they would go along in RP'ing this. Heavy RP does not equal enforcing your own views upon others if it can be avoided. In the case of a daughter of Eöl (a direct descendant of an important Silmarillion character) we decided to ask our members to change their bio's to things that are not conflicting with lore, and stay out of direct bloodlines in the Silmarillion. Currently there is no direct descendant of Eöl within Vanimar. Dont believe everything you hear.

Q: How about one of your members getting married to an elf that had already been married once, and then terminated the whole story? Isnt that a lore-break?

A: What players do with their personal relationships with other players is not our concern. We are not tyrants to kick out our members or force them to RP something because they have a relationship with another player. Vanimar is not responsible for granting permission or banning members from getting married or having relationships with other players. When it comes to abiding to lore in such situations, we do not force our members but remain neutral. We value social relationships and wish not to disturb our members relations with others. Also, before pointing fingers you might want to think about the fact that players sometimes want to erase things that happened to their characters, like a previous marriage, for instance because their previous RP partner suddenly decided to quit logging into the game.

Q: Why is there people always trying to bash/flame Vanimar on public forums/chat channels?

A: We can list the possible reasons for this:

1- Jealousy: Vanimar has grown to become one of the largest roleplaying kins on the server. As its counterparts disappeared one by one Vanimar still stands as one of the oldest kinships in Laurelin. Some people are jealous of that and just want to see us go down in flames for it.
2- Past Grievance: Vanimar has been in contact with a lot of people over the years and not all people are on the same page with us as far as lore and RP views go. Some people like to live with their old grievances and just exact their revenge on us by slendering/bashing/flaming Vanimar publicly to satisfy their egos. People often approach us brainwashed by anti-Vanimar propaganda and once they see who we really are they really see behind the smear campaign out there.
3- Hearsay/Misinformation: Sometimes its like; oh someone said you guys are this and that and evil and mean etc.. dont believe everything you hear, see for yourself.
4- Dislike for the Noldor: Some people have made themselves believe that Noldor do not exist in number in the Third Age. True that the Noldor were dwindled by the Third Age but no text of Tolkien suggest a group of Noldor elves cannot exist in Middle Earth in TA. Also, some people disrelish the way proud Noldor elves behave IC. We often have been policed by these people, lore-police, but we dont mind Everyone is free to chose whom they will RP with.
5- Difference of oppinions and lack of respect for other's view on lore.
6- Selection of the above combined.

Q: Where can Vanimar be found?

A: Currently we are stationed in Rivendell, some roleplaying members may be found by the forges to the Northwest. We may also be found around Falathlorn and Celondim. Feel free to approach us or contact us in private to say hi, get to know us or enjoy some roleplaying with us!

Re: Vanimar Looking for Elven Roleplayers

    Suilaid,
I have been playing LOTR for over a year now and I have recently started playing on the Laurelin server. I am currently a 12th level Mini, but plan on making 20 by the end of the weekend. I interested in deep RP, and have read the Silmarillion a few times. I am rereading it now. I have not noticed many players on the server, very few in fact. Is the kinship still active?

Hi there! I am probably late with the answer but maybe the answer is of use to others too. Vanimar does not use any kin custom channel so you better apply on our forum for membership to join the one and only kinchat. Good luck!

    Bump,

If you have read Silmarillion, If you are one, or have an interest in the race of Noldor and aware of its history,
If you are a Sindar elf with good reasons to live among other clans,
If you are a knowledgeable fellow who is aware of the world beyond what movies and lotr saga can ever offer,
If you feel that the RP around you seems inconsistent with what you have read,

Vanimar may very well be the place you would be interested in!

Come join to one of the oldest and most numerous and active elven communities in lotro, experience the difference of RP among the lore knowledgeable international community, have friends from all over the world who also have read a lot of things about the elves of Middle-earth, discuss the events of Beleriand with your old friends, grief alongside them for the losses of ancient cities and keeps. Contribute to one of the most active board of writers in the server and feel serenity and excitement at the same time inside a 100% Elven environment. Create your own tale among people who struggles daily to stay a true to the lore as possible.

Picture is mildly irrelevant, I thought it would help with the advertisement! They apparently burn a ship every year in Shetland island. Heartwarming indeed!

Smile Good to see you guys are stil here

Few years back I was a member of Vanimar for a brief period. Unfortunately due to RL issues I've had to leave the game. My memories of Vanimar are most pleasant. Their members are most kind and helpful bunch I've encountered. I've got a lot of help in gear and instances. I am looking forward RPing with you guys again. My character is looking for you. It may take a while until he reaches Rivendell so he spends every free moment in Celondim.

    Bump!

    Vanimar is still recruiting elves.

    * If you do know about the Middle-earth and Tolkien Lore more than those around you,
    * If you feel that your knowledge of Tolkien Lore has little to no use in your current RP environment,
    * If you wish to enjoy Elven RP experience among like-minded people

This might be the kin for you!

I've sent my application in and am waiting with fingers crossed for the outcome... At any rate, I'm hoping to make it to one of the Hall of Fire events in Imladris in the near future.

It's great to find a group of RPers who are dedicated to preserving the lore in Tolkien's works. As a huge Silmarillion fan especially I can't think of a better place to roleplay an elven character. May the grace of the Valar be with your wonderful kin, whether I am inducted or not.

    BUMP!

Vanimar is looking for Elven roleplayers who wish to enjoy elven RP in a lore-rich environment. If it's your desire to experience RP with like minded people who have read almost everything out there, then you have an alternative to expand your imagination beyond generic RP. Vanimar offers storylines that would enrich your character, involve you into things from very beginning and add some taste to what would otherwise be a dull affair. Contrary to popular belief, No we are not elitists, No we don't bite you, No we don't look down on you if you haven't read things before, No we don't burn ships (since a long time I didn't) and yes the setting really works.

*cue music* Vanimar, revitalizing elven lives since first age. Vanimar... Because you worth it. *An elven lady winks beneath wing-flapping swans*

Good to see you guys are still around. I was a member about four years ago (Aithanar and Nerinthir) but I've long since been booted due to inactivity. I had a nostalgia bug hit me yesterday as I was reading the Silmarillion in memory of Tolkein's birthday and reinstalled the game. I'll have to look for you all online. Is the Hall of Fire still the place?

    Mae de 'ovannen.

Vanimar is an elf-only, lore-heavy kinship, located in Rivendell, 18+ of age, that stays faithful to the work of Tolkien, especially the Silmarillion which describes the history of the elven people and inspires our kinship.

We are looking for elven roleplayers, elf or high-elf, minimum level 20, with a lore friendly name and background.

We have regular roleplaying events and storylines within the kin. Visit us at vanimar.shivtr.com, follow us on LaurelinArchives.org, meet us in the Hall of Fire in the Last Homely House on Wednesdays, or chat (/tell) with us in-game for questions.
