no longer Burglaring on a Burglar?

I was wonder if others are also finding that, since HD, the "Burgle" skill never actually gives you anything anymore??

As I was leveling up my Burglar, I only occasionally used this skill, but when I *did* pick the pocket (er, loincloth? ick) of some orc, it would many times (not every time) come up with something small like a few potions or something like that. It was a cute flavor skill, and since the reward was never all that great, I eventually stopped trying to Burgle.

However, in the skill revamp with HD, the skill deed "Burglarize" (250 uses of Burgle) is now tied to completing a trait point deed, and it is the last point that I have left to get (not counting the BB points, which I am ignoring). So…… my level 95 Burglar has been going around trying to Burgle a lot, and while sometimes I get the message "You do not get any items" (or whatever the message is), other times nothing happens even though the skill deed does increment. And most notably, I never ever actually get anything for my troubles.

I will probably finish off the necessary deed soon, but I am still curious why, out of 200+ times I will have used Burgle recently, I never receive any random small loot for doing this. Any one else experiencing the same?

I habitually use burgle even though the rewards (as you say) are usually pretty rubbish, although I don't turn my nose up to free morale/power pots Can't say I've noticed this and am sure other burgs would have posted if it was borked, however I'll check next time my burg runs through the Entwood resource instances.

Maybe you're just hitting a bad streak in RNG? Went a burgling yesterday and while most attempts failed...my hobbit did manage to filch some vendor trash here and there.
Relax, it's only just a string of 1s and 0s.

When testing for HD I did bug that it was not working the overwhelming majority of the time (like 95%+). Not sure if they did anything about it though.

I believe a dev did comment at the time however that you couldn't burglar the same mob twice, and while I can't say it for a certainty, I think that it might include failed attempts.

Honestly I've been getting trash that is already sold by vendors ( weapons, armor, etc. ), and it is getting very annoying. Before U13 I would get things that had some actual stats on them, admittedly they weren't as good as what I was using but they became cosmetic pieces of one type or another.

I regularly use Burgle in "Epic Battles". I've walked away with a nice list of loot... none of it is really worth keeping... but I'll get some nice "purple" drops with usually 1 very high stat (seen stuff with +1126 crit rating @ 95).

My burg is working the deed.

He rarely gets anything from picking pockets. When he does, it's usually trash. It's very rare that it's something I might possibly use. Burglaring will always be of little value to me because the only real thing it can do for me is clutter up my bags until I can get someplace to sell the trash.

It makes my burglar feel like I'm on work-release and picking up trash on the side of the road since most of what I'm getting is junk orcs would throw away.

Okay, a couple of stray comments about the Burgle skill and Burglarize deed. These comments are based on pre-U13.0 usage. There might have been changes to the skill of which I'm not currently aware.

    • The deed is for "use" so picking the pocket of a gray (trivial) opponent counts toward the deed.
    • "Use" also means that the skill can fail (you find nothing) but the deed still increments.
    • Finding items on opponents is dependent on a comparison of your respective levels (yours' and opponent's); too different and you don't find anything at all, ever. (This is to prevent farming items from low level opponents, endlessly.)
    • You cannot find coins on an opponent, ever.
    • You must wait some time (10 real min?) for an opponent to reset to try burglarizing them again. I think a change to another named area (from Annunlos to Nain Enidh, for example) will cause a reset.
    • The daily limit for the Burglarize deed is very small - 25/day. So it takes a minimum of 10 days to complete the deed.
    • Items found while pick pocketing an opponent are named, uncommon (?), random drops. They are not a part of the opponents inventory or their drops on defeat.
    • You cannot steal the weapon or armor an opponent would use against you in combat if you're discovered.
    • Since these named items are non-stacking, destroy these from your inventory first when you exceed the loot overflow. Full stacks of "vendor trash" are of more value than one named item.
    • Burglars can summon a Pedlar anywhere a camp site fire is present. Sell named items to the Pedlar, as well as any other items you are sure you don't need/want for other purposes (crafting, tasks, etc).
    • When picking the pocket of some orc's loincloth... leave the "jewels" alone!

Just tested on trivial mobs. Burgle will not advance the deed on a gray opponent.
