Red face Thanks for the amazing welcome.

    Hello Laurelin!

I transferred from Evernight to Laurelin last night - as I really wanted to join with a more RP / immersion friendly atmosphere. (No more names like Leggolass Leetkiller - hooray!)

I was very nervous, as I have been on Evernight for 8 years and I have never roleplayed before, nor was I sure of if I wanted to or not; though immersing myself in Tolkien's world is very important to me within LOTRO.
Since the introduction of World Chat, I instantly turned the channel off, due to the amount of noise and immature people. "Well", I though, "it's a new server, I'll check out world chat here and introduce myself"

What followed was a wave of incredibly friendly welcomes, discussions about lore and the back-stories of people's characters.

So I wanted to say, thank you Laurelin, my fears and nervousness have instantly been quelled, and I can't wait to meet more of you and join in the many events and join a kinship.

I've even created a hobbit character to join in the Green Dragon Friday tonight.

    EDIT :

I just wanted to add, I'm not badmouthing Evernight, I met some incredible people there, who I consider friends and I was sad to leave them behind - but Laurelin already feels like where I belong.

I have to agree with Kenomica here, we transferred at the same time, both having seperate experiences with world chat over the past couple of days, I am amazed at how welcoming you all are, a huge contrast to our previous server.

I can't wait to get my hobbit to the green dragon this evening

    Welcome indeed!

Always a joy to have more folk on Laurelin with a shared love for the magical, mythical world of J.R.R. Tolkien and care for immersion and role play. And I understand very well what you mean about your former server. For I too used to play on other worlds for a long while, and have also visited the rest, but none is of the same Middle-earth immersive and lore-supportive nature as that of Laurelin, or at the very least not to the same extent and depth. This is the reason I spent much of my time to write an essay about Laurelin. It is not done out of scorn for the other worlds, but as I say there, think of it as one that has long sought for a finer realm to dwell in and finally learns about it and comes thither and is glad to share the word for it so that others who seek the same environment and people can at least have the information and knowledge. And so it has been for many who read this essay and came to the server being glad and inspired of the things they learnt there that they knew not before. And it continues so.

Your coming and stay on this server will rekindle your enthusiasm for Middle-earth : )

    Hi Kenomica and indeed Simpleminded,

Welcome to Laurelin I am sure you will find it a really good server to be part of. I have had the pleasure of knowing a few players in my many years in Lotro who have come across from Evernight who settled in nicely. The server for the most part has a very nice player base who get to grips with all aspects of the game from role-playing to end game raids and the PVP aspect. Indeed many of the roleplay kins complete end game content as part of their usual activities. Personally I think it's great to be able to play a game to its fullest potential.

I also originally came from another server, Snowborne. I left because people did not seem to speak outside of kin or fellowships. So to Laurelin I came and although I think it is unfair to state one server is better than another for I truly only have experience of two I did find that for me Laurelin more suited the style of gameplay I was after.

The Hobbit community is superb and that's just my perspective as a third party for all my characters are elves or men. I hear some lovely stories from my friends and as my role as one of the Laurelin Archives Web Team.

Enjoy the Green Dragon Friday and if you ever cross the wilds to reach Imladris I am sure we can persuade Lord Elrond to open a few of his finest wines to share.

I am sure you will make a good few hobbits friends bit if ever I can be of help please just send me an IM in game to Khalis. Or feel free to contact me on the Laurelin Archives, or my fellow team member Amorey one of the finest hobbits ever to step beyond the Shire.

    All the best
    Khalis.

I'm glad to hear it! My main is a Race of Man, I made the hobbit purely to join the Green Dragon Fridays, but my main will certainly be involved in anything that will take him!

Agreed. I was scouting the server tonight to reserve my toon names, and popped into world chat to see if my names would be up to snuff for an RP server. The World Chat responses were positive, humorous, and welcoming. Great to see an RP server be welcoming to players of all stripes, including non-RPers.

I made a brand new character on this server despite having played before (reinstalled lotRO after 6 months'ish break). Two people whispered me welcomes and World chat has been full of pleasantries Happy days

I'm glad you found a pleasant welcome! There's not really much difference between "RPers" and "non-RPers" really, and I think all pleasant people who are willing to be respectful of others will find a warm welcome on Laurelin. Behind the curtain we're all people who enjoy computer games, and LOTRO in particular. Games like LOTRO offer a lot of different things people can enjoy, the PVE of course, skirmishes, raids, crafting, PvP, and yup RP. And many of us enjoy partaking of some combination of these if not all of them. Most organized RP events happen sort of off to one side where it is quite easy for non-RPers to ignore us if they don't want to participate in that particular facet of the game. Though of course, you are most welcome to if you like. There's no harm in just stopping by to watch.

If you ever enjoy immersing yourself in the game at all, visualizing yourself as a young hobbit killing slugs in the Rushock Bog, or a bold adventurer riding your war steed across the fields of Rohan. If you have in your mind even a rough idea of who your character is as a resident of Middle Earth beyond just a "toon" for collecting fat lootz, you are already participating in the core facet of role playing. Choosing to take that one step farther and interacting with others in character is purely optional.
