World Transfers

If you transfer more characters than you have slots available, the characters you do not choose to keep active do NOT get deleted. They remain on the new server in limbo until you delete an active character or acquire a new character slot.

It's 10am est where I live and Riddermark is not showing up for me to transfer toon off server.

Sorry all we found a major error right after turning this on for Riddermark so we had to pull it back down. We are investigating and will have the transfers for this server back up ASAP.

And I transferred my whole lot right after.... only now I get a message that I can't connect to Riddermark. Wondering if all of my toons now got stuck :P

Okay, so on the account I was transferring, I get this error:



My forum account does not seem to be "banned". I transferred my kin first successfully right after 7:45, and then the rest of my toons right before you gave the message that transfers were closed again. I also transferred everything on my other account successfully, I can log on to the game just fine using that account.

Do I need to report this, or is this behavior expected?

*sad face* Was gonna start a transfer before school.

Ah well, guess it'll have to wait. At least today is test day. Last night my cost accounting test took 15 minutes. I reckon today my intermediate I test should take not much more. xD

For what it is worth..... the transfer of everything on my second account seemed to have gone without problems. All my toons are there, shared storage came over, wardrobe came over, and I have no characters (nor any way to create them) on Riddermark.

What didn't seem to work is housing escrow. I didn't check on my main account. I am going to buy a kinhouse now on one of my 1-man kins that transferred over and see what happens there.

Edit: Nope, seems there is nothing in escrow. Now I have heard of this taking longer, and since transfers are halted I will wait..... but this does slightly concern me

I don't know. I transferred my kinship succesfully (1 toon + shared), and then proceeded to transfer all my other toons, about 16 of them..... they are "in transit" now I think.

knowing my luck i hit that transfer button seconds before they shut it down lol...can't even log in to play on my gladden toon to wait it out

Yeah... Since I'm one of them too. My main account is still 'banned'. My main, kin and shared storage are lost somewhere in digital space since an hour ago and the transfer window says 'connection closed'.

I only wanna know: is everything as supposed and I just have to wait placidly for the rest of the canonical 6 hours, or I can begin to cry NOW?

Yep, that is where I am at. I can log on to my second account however no problem.

I would start my guessing with what is glaringly different between the two: US/EU formatting?

Transfers from Gilrain appear to be currently locked out as well - connection unavailable. Hope the char I transferred just before the error was mentioned gets through OK. Both accounts are giving the same error although I have a transfer active only on one off them.

I would start my guessing with what is glaringly different between the two: US/EU formatting?

Servers themselves aren't the issue but it has been explained over the years that it is the format of the databases used to store character data.
Database architecture such as SQL store information in key names and link things together using primary/foreign keys for sets of data. In theory, if a character is copied from EU to US, unique numbers could interfere with another and also the actual data fields used to store information would differ in name and therefore lose vital information.
An example of this conflict would be that US servers label a character name as playerName and EU labels the field as characterName, which in some cases would require many hours of manually copying out this info onto hard paper and re-entering into new databases, even then in the hopes of not having further issues arise after.

Out of curiosity, since this is undoubtedly related to the Riddermark restart, what happened? Why do you reckon it happened for Riddermark but not the first 3, and do you think it's likely to happen again for future servers?

Fat finger error on our part that cause a portion of the transfer process to not connect to a webserver properly. We have checked all the other servers for the typo and that was the only one. So unlikely to happen again.
