World Transfers

I will most likely delete the toons I can not transfer to the 2 servers I am consolidating toons to.
It will waste hundreds of mithiril coins, hundreds of gold coins and so on, but it will keep me from being tempted to login on them thus saving me time.

Over time, the game changes.
2008-09 I played with Codemasters. 2010 I opted to move fully to Turbine US services.
2011 all those EU servers moved in with Turbine and I was able to retain some of those old bits.
Old stuff got converted to mithrils sometime 2012-13, I know my old cap 65s on Riddermark were swimming in the stuff.
I slowly merge the old EU ones to play Laurelin and Evernight.
I slowly make a mess of moving stuff to the US servers (can't decide where to play, leaning toward Landroval).

I'll just have to leave a few characters (perhaps half of them) more or less dormant on some extra server.

Main point is: don't delete.
Now server hardware space is set up in the Netherlands for the ex EU servers, making them properly EU once again. I feel an urge to at least go back to those characters and see what the game is like on 25ms connectivity rather than 125. Perhaps it's ace, perhaps it's meh.
Regardless, I'll be playing the US servers too but I'll retain the option to play EU.

Deleting is such a one way street to go down. I can admire the decision-making but we don't yet know if mithrils can be easily moved in the future, making those old characters useable again.

Well, if that is your plan, perhaps you can find someone to pass your loot to before deleting. At least then the gold will not go to waste.

Indeed Kindly let me know which server, I will create a character there and happily receive the gold to put to good use!

No worries, Dwarrowdelf's turn simply isn't up yet. When Dwarrowdelf becomes available for transfer, you will be allowed to transfer to any of the 5 (4 for now until Brandywine opens) remaining servers in the US. For free, and forever, so you won't miss it.

You will be able to transfer when Dwarrowdelf opens in a few weeks. You can only copy to the test worlds, so don't worry about that, unless you want to join any open betas in the future.

hi - if riddermark went 9/29, and firefoot 10/6, can one assume that nimrodel will go 10/13, windfola 10/20, and imladris 10/27?

I created a schedule based on the 2-server-a-week assumption, EU servers on Mondays and US servers on Tuesdays:

Open for transfer NOW:

US: Elendilmir, Riddermark, Firefoot.
EU: Estel, Gilrain, Eldar.

Tentative, assumed, guessed, totally-not-official, completely made up schedule based on previous schedule:

Anduin (EU): Oct 12th.
Nimrodel (US): Oct 13th.

Morthond (EU): Oct 19th.
Windfola (US): Oct 20th.

Maiar (EU): Oct 26th.
Imladris (US): Oct 27th.

Vanyar (EU): Nov 2nd.
Dwarrowdelf (US): Nov 3rd.

Withywindle: (EU) Nov. 9th
Silverlode (US): Nov. 10th

Snowbourn: (EU) Nov 16th
Vilya (US): Nov 17th

Meneldor (US): Nov 23rd. (Monday).

Assuming there are no problems, this might be the schedule. It is completely possible that they will change the schedule in either direction: Delays because of issues, or more servers per week because it is going so well. They certainly have hinted that if it goes well they may do more servers at a time, such as 4 servers in a week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, something like that.

But for now, the above schedule seems to be the best guess we have as to when it is YOUR server's turn.

All previous announcements have come on a Thursday afternoon. (Elendilmir, Riddermark, Firefoot were all announced on Thursdays.
So I expect that to not be any different.... My guess is that they do a quick check to make sure if everything is ready, and if any new problems were discovered, and give the green light for the next transfer on Thursday's. If there were any issues, or the systems were taxed a lot more than they should have been, it gives them a chance to reschedule if needed.

My guess is that the announcement will come around 24 hours from this post.

I just want them to allow all transfers before the holiday events start up. A friend of mine started playing the game and is having a blast. He created his character on the server I am planning to move to, but my characters are stuck on my home server Vilya.

There is no "fix". There are a few isolated cases where errors may occur. One of them might be if you attemped to transfer a character that has not logged in for around 2 years or so, when they changed the housing storage from multiple chests in a house to just one big one. If you had a character that had not been logged on yet after the change, you entire account could have issues doing the transfers. There are a few other isolated cases, but I believe most of them are of a result of 1 character (or more), creep or freep, not being logged on since a major change was made to the game.

People have been forgetting about their old creeps and such, and that might also cause issues.

If you have such an issue, all you can do is bug report it, and wait your turn. Could be a few days.

This is ridiculous. It only took LOTRO two years too late to decide to do a server merge. People are waiting to move to Brandywine. Other folks are waiting to leave Brandywine. The so-called free day to move to any server was advertised as a Beta test so a lot of us didn't bother. Not we are told we should have moved that one day.

The servers should all be open. LOTRO is losing players because of the slooooooooow roll-out of this sever merge. It is taking way too long.

My guess is they are just busy..... We haven't seen the Harvest Festival announced either, and that probably should start - based on earlier years - in exactly 10 days on Monday the 18th.

There is no reason to delay the next set of transfers, so I would assume we are still on track.

Hi all,

Sorry for the late notice on the next set of dates. Many of us have been out sick and Monday is a holiday for some folks around here so I am double checking this morning when we will have everyone we need and then I will post the dates.

As for those getting errors when attempting to transfer, please open a CS ticket. We do have a small failure rate (1-3%) but CS should be able to help with those falling into that category.

Ah, modern day gamer patience and understanding as its finest.

Server by server and the slow roll-out is to monitor and ensure each transfer is done properly and the remaining servers are not disproportionately crowded with new arrivals.

I am seeing this question a lot, so I want to address it. The main reason we are doing a slow roll out, is that the transfer service is limited in the number of requests it can handle at once. This is why the wait time is longer in the first 24 hours we open a new server for transfer than a couple days later. If we opened all servers at once, the service would get bogged down and wait times, during which your account is locked, would become unreasonable as everyone flooded the service. Thus we are opening one at a time, letting the wait times settle, monitoring the destination servers to make sure none are being over loaded and then moving on to the next. This method provides the smallest disruption to play time. Once the main rush of consolidation is complete, there should be no issues with normal transfer times as they are not as high demand.

We understand it is hard to wait. We are all eager to have the transfers completed and be on the brand new hardware, but patience in this case will result in a better overall experience for everyone. We are working hard to get it complete as soon as possible.
