Why did a GM kill me?

Ouch, I got a quest started for me last night because one of my epics had been borked. Might have been kind of fun to have a bolt of lightning roast me in the Esteldin crafting hall.

Never did anything heinous enough to suffer capital punishment, although I have been sent to the Bree jail a time or two...

I would love for there to be a title auto-granted when a GM smites someone . . . I would wear it!

Not an accusation/complaint. This is simply a question.

A quest will not complete, so I put in a ticket. A short time later, as I am jumping across a body of water with a speed buff, a lightning bolt from the sky one-shots me. Then a GM apologizes and says that they needed to target me in order to auto-complete the quest.

At the time, I took this as a GM mis-click, but in retrospect, I wonder if it was because the GM could not target me. Maybe because I was moving or in water?

In order to avoid untimely deaths, would it help to not move after submitting a ticket where the GM needs to target a character? Or was this more likely something akin to a mis-click after all?

Last time I submitted a ticket for help like this, the GM appeared in the room with me in a cloud of chickens!

I admit, though, that I'd be a little peeved to have been killed if I were at a lower level trying to get "the Undying".

I'd say, if the GM killing the OP was a mistake, and their truly upset about it, perhaps give them an honorary title? "Lightning Rod"

You should all be given the gift of the mighty valar, including lightning rod, then smite away. I want to be hit by lightning at the Argonath

I've never seen a CM with such a loyal following like she had. and it wasn't a bunch of boot lickers, it was an actual bunch of people that loved her.

Sporkfire. Who ironically left SOE's Planetside team to work as the community manager for Turbine in both DDO and LoTRO. And found a bunch of Planetside players wanting to drag him back despite multiple threats of disintegration spells to the face and unmentionable parts. Granted it was for a very good reason because his replacement was an utter failure and he left right before the new lead developer (who was exhibit A in why players should NEVER be hired on as dev's for a game they play) effectively killed what had been a thriving game.

Though I can't help but think that maybe the old guard leaving is a good idea. These days it seems as though companies prefer to let the playerbase become a cesspool as long as it lets them transfer resources away from a proven (but no long "the hot new thing") game to their latest "hey! We're uber super cool latest clone of XYZ that everyone with zero ability to think for themselves is raving about" effort.
