For whatever reason you got a false-positive. Ignore it, they're pretty common.

Maybe your antivirus updated, they tend to do that.

    Kaspersky Malicious Program Detected

After updating this morning I also had the same issue. I am running Kaspersky which deleted the lotroclient.exe file stating there is an UDSangerousObject.Multi.Generic Hope this helps in solving the issue.

This is most likely a Kaspersky issue as they are known for false positives. They even have a link about it in their support section. Part of the issue is that they update their data files hourly so it is hard to know if a "newly updated" executable file is really the cause of the false positive or whether Kaspersky has simply updated their files since the last time the file got scanned. From their support page, "Kaspersky Lab delivers fast reaction to the new threats by providing the users with hourly database updates (which include the signatures of threats)". The entire page about false positives:
    https://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/general/1870

Unfortunately, that page doesn't actually provide much help if a file is from a known good source and you simply want it marked as good, but there is a link to submit the file for further testing. Although, they don't indicate how you are to submit the file if Kaspersky has already deleted it.

I too have Kaspersky and had a problem as well. I paused my antivirus and started the game - started just fine. I submitted a help ticket earlier and will be reporting they need to investigate why Kaspersky is having problems with LOTRO.

I also have Kaspersky. So I let the file execute. Kaspersky went crazy, scanned my system for a virus. Restarted, now microsoft is running a program to check everything is fine.
I do not know how to let the game run, if Kaspersky is going crazy like this.

I have had false positives in other programs, none have reacted this badly.

i don't have kaspersky but it should be possible to whitelist the lotro directory so that it is excluded from scanning.

    maybe this could help: https://support.kaspersky.com/12160

Jannas has given the right hint: https://support.kaspersky.com/12160 or in german https://support.kaspersky.com/de/12160

First create an exclusion rule for the lotro folder and start the launcher again. After that an exeption for the lotroclient.exe is sufficient.

Thanks, jannas and Auryline I've got Kaspersky running, too. I probably wouldn't have bothered looking up a solution today, but then you provided it so readily. Cheers!

At least it is "only" LOTRO it screwed; another corporate AV labelled large parts of Win7,8,8.1 and 10 as malware yesterday, and started to delete it all.

I could understand 8,8.1 and 10, but Win7 is fine (as long as you dont try to install ANY updates, even on a fresh install).

I contacted Kaspersky Support about this, spoke with them on the live chat. They suggested doing the exclusion; This was attempted but Kaspersky is still deleting the .exe
I told Kaspersky support that this didn't work, he suggested restarting the computer... this didn't work either.

Now apparently it is suggested that if the exclusion doesn't work you should email Kaspersky with the file info and a description of what is going on, another option is using their virus desk, You can drag and drop the file into that and it can be submitted that way. I was told it could take 2-5 days for them to investigate the file and mark it as "safe" on their end. So frustrating that we can't even rely on our antivirus + games anymore.

Here is the link to the virus desk: https://virusdesk.kaspersky.com/ and their live chat support: http://support.kaspersky.com/b2c#

Looks like our only option is to get SSG to figure out what the heck caused this, and flood Kaspersky support with this issue so they know this is something serious.

While you wait, turn Kaspersky off, and use one of the many free programs out there there to protect your, computer until they get it fixed. I don't use Kaspersky because of these sorts of issues. I just use the paid version of Malwarebytes. It is $30 a year for 3 computers, and I never have these issues with games. Malwarebytes also has a free version.

Had the same issue with Kaspersky. Just added the folder the game is in to exclusions, not doing anything else, and it's working again finally.
