Why do some people get custom avatars and are allowed to have animated signatures?
There's a thread in general forum about the new raid started by a user who created their account in January of this year with less than 150 posts. They have a custom avatar. Why does a new account get custom avatars but an account as old as mine with 20 times as many posts does not?
Also, Why does said user also get to have a signature with an animated image larger (850x200) than the rules state (350x125)?
Yes, I have been making custom forum avatars for people who donated to me for Extra Life this year. It'll be back next year. I have also occasionally made a custom avatar for a forum person based on accomplishment or being famous in the community.
For animated signatures, they are not allowed. I will admit to being less concerned about them than some people in my job in the past, but the community has been clear that they do not want animated signatures, and I want to make sure that wish is paid attention to. If you run into an animated signature, report the post and I will remove it (typically after messaging the person and giving them a day or two to correct it themselves.)
