[LAURELIN, EVENT, social] 27 JAN - The power of their words (HMD 2018 Remembrance)

On 27 January at 8.30pm UK (21.30 CET or 15.30pm /servertime) I will be in Celondim, Ered Luin, to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day. I will be happy for the company, if you so wish to join me.

Why?

For me, this isn’t about politics, religion or any other such thing. This is fulfilling the wishes of those we have lost to genocide – to remember them and not forget. To carry on their dreams. Just to understand the people we lost a little better.

For instance, in Anne Frank, we lost a young girl, a potential author who’s works we might well have thrilled to read, just like we do our beloved Tolkien. We’ll never know.
Each year HMD has a theme. This year it is the “Power of Words” and for me, having organised displays about HMD in my own workplace, one thing stands out – the words of those we lost and those who survived are extremely powerful and nearly all speak of hope - hope that we will not forget them, hope that we will not fall to hatred ourselves, hope that we will try to do good in their names.
So on Saturday 27 January, I will remember them and talk of hope.
