I'm going to tag along to your post, Mac, as I have been wondering the same. I can see the benefits of keeping the ballads up... but as I've been leveling (level 20 now) I can't help but finish mobs off with the Coda. To me the ballads and anthems just aren't up long enough to justify it. I have to assume when I get higher level or trait legacies once I get to that point they will have a longer buff duration... but as it stands I just use the Coda for the nice burst of DPS.

I value having my anthem bonuses up all the time so I rarely use a Coda of Fury. Am I missing something?
I'd rather blast everything with AE. Now I am at cap so is it useful at lower levels when you don't have legacies and trait points?
cf stream advice to Cordovan.

Mostly it isn't worth worry about unless you are in a longer fights. In these cases, you will want to make sure to have 3 points in the Improved Coda of Fury trait (red line). This gives you a chance to reset all of your cries and calls skills on use.
With my rotation, I usually get through all of my AoE skills, and a 2nd Call to Fate and Piercing Cry, along with 2 uses of Major Ballad, before all of my Cry and Call skills are on CD. At this point I use the Coda (hopefully proc'ing emboldened finish damage buff and the reset). If I get a reset on all of my Cry and Call skills, I follow with Cry of Chorus, and then repeat my standard rotation. If I don't get a reset, I will alternate between Major ballad and hopefully Piercing Cry (if you have Sharing a Story traited, ballads can reset Piercing Cry) or Perfect ballad (again looking for the reset on Piercing cry) until I have 3 ballads up. I will then use Coda Of Fury again, followed by Cry of Chorus, because at this point, even if they don't get a reset, my cry and call skills should be off cool down.
On the landscape, however, this is almost never necessary. Mobs die quickly, and you are usually out of combat before you get to the point where you need a reset. With most group content, minis tend to go blue or yellow. Still, you can do very decent DPS with a red-line mini in these situations, and while contributing to corruption removal and interrupts using piercing cry.

Thanks. I figured this was the case. Later levels get to keep anthems up for over a minute and get to buff anthems (war) making loosing those bonuses a concern.
So I guess it's likely as you gain LIs around Moria to the later game the use of coda of fury will diminish. At cap the buffs get me an 8 target spell equal in damage to the coda of fury single target. It's important for all of us to review what we are doing over time to get the best out of our classes. I suppose if everything is on CD and you will finish off the last mob a coda would be fine if not moving on to another spawn.
The only coda I found useful was when learning to kite heal in Orthanc 3 mans.

Ahhh, see, 1 minute makes it a whee bit more ideal then the 9 seconds or whatever it is at my current level. I'm coming up to my first group content though so I'm eager to test out my new healing abilities in the Great Burrows.

Thanks. I will try to get a reset on Piercing Cry when ever I can. I can't imagine anyone giving me a red line spot in a group though. But I do dislike the "chance to" do something when I might not notice that something has popped for me to do something with it, I guess I'm too lazy and when I'm relying on that pop it never seems to come. My play style on landscape is more about screwing with the bigger spawns heads with flops, fears, distracts or just nuke 'em
If my mini was my main I'd likely put more effort in.

Mini healing is great at all levels, however tanks haven't got the threat skills or tank experience so your biggest problem will likely be healing threat so be prepared to run around a bit and ballad heal on the move in the vicinity of the tank. GL

PS: If you get aggro from ranged mobs try "LOSing" - Line Of Sighting, place yourself in line of sight of your tank with an obstruction between you and the ranged mob. Ideally it will move and then be in the area of effect of your tank to take it off you. Ah, forum date suggests you know all this

Yes, I remember having the opposite problem years ago when I first made my Warden when they were released. Tanking was challenging until your threat skills increase. All works out in the end though.

I'd played a healer in many games before Lotro. This was the first time I played a tank as a well and appreciating the other's issues is a valuable lesson.
