How to post a picture on the forums?

I have a question to ask and having a picture of a screenshot I took would be helpful. I can't figure out how to post one. I use to use photobucket then link it. With that stopped can I post it directly here?

No, the images need to be hosted elsewhere and then linked here using the "picture frame" button in the editor.

If you do a Google search on free picture hosting, there are lots of alternatives to photobucket (personally, I never liked photobucket). One alternate that I thought had a decent Terms of Service and Privacy policy is vgy.me. But, as always, YMMV.

Photobucket has always been a really bad hosting site. imgur.com is a really good one in my opinion.

You can upload without an account and copy/paste the direct link easily.

I use Flickr. I have photobucket too for animated pictures. Didn't even know there was a problem with it because I haven't used it in ages.

You can also manually insert images using html if you have it uploaded somewhere. I am used to using html for linking or posting pictures.

Yes ... but HOW do you format the image to appear in the message of the forum, rather than just have a link to it?

You use BB Code tags. Examples here - https://www.lotro.com/en/forums/misc.php?do=bbcode
