    Arrow [Elven KINSHIP] Nost-e-Thawarwaith

Nost-e-Thawarwaith is a new lore-observant, light-RP Wood Elf kinship on Laurelin.

We are an as yet small, but cheerful and enterprising group of Elves. We welcome all classes, levels, and play styles, and are happy to help out newcomers to role-playing.

See our website for more Wood Elf lore: http://laurelinarchives.org/node/46202

Two questions - perhaps silly ones but a bump won't do this post any harm.

    1. Should a member's name be in one of the elven languages - if so do you care which one? Thus, Starsinger might be a perfectly appropriate name in general theme but it is in the common tongue.

    2. Are high elves welcome or too ...unsilvan?

I have characters I am leveling in a different kin but it strikes me that a new character dedicated more to roleplaying should perhaps go in a roleplaying kin. No Starsinger wouldn't be the name - that one is taken.

Oh yes one not-so-silly question - do you mostly use typed chat or discord or other voice chat? Some roleplaying kins stick strictly to typed and I don't think I want one that uses voice much. Too immersion breaking when the small female elf sounds like a large male.

Thank you for the not at all silly questions!

    1. RP Elf names should be in Sindarin. The character creation screen actually gives instructions for creating these names (also quoted in the Wiki https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Elf#Elf_Names).
You can use https://www.elfdict.com/ to help create Sindarin names, eg Starsinger > Êllind. (I'm not sure if you can use diacritics in names now - there have been some recent changes in this.) Another website you might look at is https://realelvish.net/names/sindarin/woodelf/.

    2. High Elves have a history of colonizing other elves, and dragging them into self-serving wars, so we keep our kinship free of them.

    3. We don't have a set chat policy. (I personally don't use voice chat, but I did set up a Discord server for those who do. I think our members are more interested in using it for off-line typed communication.)

Thank you - I thought the answer about Sindarin was highly likely but saw no harm in asking just in case. I have named elves using the guidelines and Sindarin dictionaries before and doubtlessly will again.

I was less sure of the answer about high elves though having done some research into precisely what the term silvan meant in the Tolkien context I wasn't at all surprised.

Time to delete a level one high elf - hopefully she is high enough that she will feel no pain. Rejoice - your answers resulted in the *permanent* end of one of the colonizing manipulators.
