Possible Ash Change ALERT - Be Informed.

Cordovan clarified things a little bit on his Cord of the Rings stream. My suspicions appear to be correct. Please see my update here:

    https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthr...12#post7860412

So I discovered today that Ashes of Enchantment were renamed to Motes of Enchantment. Except, there are two types of Motes of Enchantment!

    1) Motes of Enchantment that were converted from Ashes of Enchantment in your barter wallet or that you loot from Gorgoroth Lootboxes or get by using the Flames of Ancalamir on your Mordor/Northern Mirkwood gear go into their own category.

    2) Motes of Enchantment that you get by ashing new quest gear, opening the NEW Lootboxes (Hero's Steel-Bound Lootbox), etc. are in their own category as well.

You can see in the screenshot below in my wallet how they are categorized. Top is old Ashes of Enchantment converted to Motes of Enchantment and bottom are the new Motes of Enchantment I looted from the lootbox + got from ashing new gear for update 23. I used these ashes to barter for the new Essence Box on the new Rare oddities Vendor.

Is the club on the left just a tooltip display error? Got the feeling that item levels were going to be sorted from the notes. Seems like it's Mordor "unexplained" item level inconsistencies all over again. I can only guess the Ash renaming was just a mistake. So the Bound Black Steel Keys we already have can open Gorgoroth boxes and the two new ones?

Tooltip on the left is a non scaled item tooltip. I made it off the item in that lootbox popup box (that is new..) when you open a lootbox. Then I made another tooltip of the item after it scaled from my bag.

Bound Black Steel Keys open both types of boxes.

I haven't seen the Traveler's Lootboxes yet (level 10 - 115) so dunno what keys open those.

This appears to be a change made just prior to putting U23 to Bullroarer, and didn't make it into the Release Notes. I'm tracking it down to see what's up, and will add it.

+1 on that. Talk smack about Cord all you want, I think he would be aware of a second type of ash being added to the game.

Freemium > P2w. Why would anyone pay a sub now? Why should anyone be interested in this update when SSG is begging you to spend money just to GEAR. This is such a terrible and stupid system robbing people of their hard-earned money. With all respect SSG, please make the essences unbound and make them craftable with raid mats/quest mats. I don't mind the lootboxes but when you put best in slot items or make it the only method to gearing we run into a problem. It runs into a problem when you are forced to spend $5 per essence and $15 to barter for a piece of gear. Or you can do it the painful way which takes 2-3 months being loot locked out of your own content x) please take this into consideration

    Gotem.

Seriously though, Dev, I didn't mean to ;-; I wanted to rename to Stanky, but it was apparently "inappropriate for Middle-earth"... Then I stopped to think, "Who triumphs over all obstacles? Beast nor wraith has the fortitude to face The Mighty Scubbies!"

    So I channeled him

    Oh, and *stealer.

+cord of the rings just confirmed there is a new currency. Ash turns to Mote of Enchantement and then there will be another new currency.

To say I dislike this is an understatement. But I will try to explain why.
I have logged in daily (or as daily as possible) and I do the dailies. I gather up my slivers for my keys. And that seems okay as in testing the Black Key still opens the new chest.

But.... what about the ash I have now? What about the chest I have now?
(I hoarded the #### out of Gorgoroth Boxes) <---- my own issue, and I am seeing a therapist

May I suggest to the developers: Offer us a conversion. X ash converted to Y Mote of Enchantment

So what I just garnered from what Cord said:

The reason why there are two ash types is because they ARE going to be separate. He first said that they were supposed to stack but then read something later that clarified it.

    1) Ashes of Enchantment will be renamed to Motes of Enchantment.
    2) Motes of Enchantment only come from non cap level items. (Gorgoroth Steel Lootboxes, lower than level 116 ashable gear, etc.)
    3) The new cap level item will be called Embers of Enchantment. So that section of Motes of Enchantment with fewer itemns in my wallet picture above will be renamed to that.
    4) Embers of Enchantment will only come from level 116 -> Cap Level items. So Hero's Steel-bound Lootboxes, New quest gear that is 116+, Instance Gear at 118+... unknown for scaled instance gear 116+ at this moment.
    5) New Essences do not disenchant to Embers of Enchantment. Only the new Malleable Essence type.

This is my understanding of what Cord said in separate PR statements in the Cord of the Rings livestream.

    Here's my references:

    First talk about Ashes/Motes: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/298475287?t=11m35s (11 minutes 35 seconds to 12 minutes 40 seconds)

    Transcript:

<Cordovan> Alright, soooo.. about that Motes o' Enchantment not combining. So, here's the thing. This actually got checked in way late after literally the night before we went live with the build there and so that's why it didn't make it into the release notes.

<Cordovan> But what's, uh, to start off with the non stacking thing that's not working as intended. That is supposed to snack. That is supposed to snack? Yes. Motes of Enchantment are the new Ashes of Enchantment. We are renaming Ashes of Enchantment to Motes of Enchantment and, uh, we're then going to be, um, making your Ashes are going to be called Motes. They will stack with the new stuff that you get. And we're debuting a new kind of currency for the stuff for Update 23. So. In terms of not combining that's not working as intended.

    Second talk about Ashes/Motes: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/298475287?t=32m25s (32 minutes 25 seconds to 33 minutes 10 seconds)

<MAWorking>: +Cord- So there will be a completely new currency? Mote of Enchantement and a yet to be declared new name?

<Cordovan> Umm.. double check here... I think the answer to that's yes but in terms of not to be declared I'm pretty sure it was available on this Bullroarer here.

<Cordovan> Yeah. Embers of Enchantment. That's the cap level, um, stuff... currency. So we're going to have Motes of Enchantment and Embers of Enchantment.

Please add this. I spent a lot of dollars opening boxes to get ash, its not right if it all became useless.

I suggest all current ash be converted into motes 1-to-1 when the update comes. Ash acquired after U23 doesn’t require a conversion.

From what I could see, the old ash did convert 1:1. Both had 10K caps. Whether this will change later, though, remains to be seen.
Oh, the black steel keys that I got from bartering did open the Heroes' boxes. I had and got some regular sturdy steel keys; but have not yet checked to see if the old level specific named boxes had changed and if the old keys still worked.

My impression is that they're reworking the boxes and not truly introducing new ones.

...and +Cord dropped a "Oh I dont know if there will be a new key or not.... we will just have to wait and see" comment in the latest +Cord of the Rings

    I am scared, pissed.
Literally, you put them on sale.... I buy... you make them obsolete...

If true, I actually think I would send that off to the Credit Card company to dispute. The rules changed. (it is protected by the way as I have successfully done this before)
(of course this only applies to the keys purchased. The ones you grinded out everyday are literally your medal of honor for being dumb and waisting time)

Stop speculating wildly when the proof is in the first post. Black Steel Keys open the new lootboxes. That's all you need to know. Cord doesn't know/understand about them so that's why he gave the answer he did. I gave you the proof.. don't derail the thread.

Okay, that's one of the problems with text communication over the internet. It meant that I understood your feelings, while somewhat disagreeing with them.

If they intended the new Hero's Lootbox to have a new key it would be in the itemdb right now. It is not.

I do not know what key opens the new Traveler's (level 10-115) lootbox yet.
