    Open Tapping?

I'm seeing complaints from some of my friends that open tapping has been disabled - meaning folks who come along and make the last hit on a mob are in essence "stealing" the xp from the kill. Is this a Legendary Server "thing", or is it a bug?

I've not seen that at all.
Open tapping changed so you could get some quest mobs or deeds even if someone else had tagged the mob first. It was never about the last hit, but the first.

I've hit numerous mobs (just not the first hit) on Anor and not got the kill to count towards my quest objective. It's become quite frustrating, to the point, if someone is already fighting a mob now, I just go for a different one.

I have not experienced any problems with this.
The tapping seems to be working fine.
I have been in several areas (wolf den, for instance) where folks are tagging a mob and then waiting for the others that are deeding through there to get shots in before continuing the battle.
    Refreshing me thinks.

    Tapping

I have seen alot of people tapping and just running on in the big rush to level, leaving the person behind to finish the whole fight. While it is nice to be able to finish the fight, it is lazy of those just getting the one shot in and keep on trucking.

open tapping is disabled by default. when i created my toon on this server, i went through my Options and saw that the option for "open tapping" is not checked. i had to check the box in order for this to work.

not sure why this was done, but go through your Options panel. IIRC, it's in the "Combat" section.

I think you are mistaken; in fact i JUST logged in to double check and .. yep, no option for Open Tapping; and I went through all the other menu entries as well, just in case.

i misworded my reply. i meant the option for "Always Loot All".

Hmmm, this thread is about open tapping; why would "Loot All" have anything to do with it??

you might have missed where i said i had misworded my original reply. it mistook one for the other. does that clear things up for you?

Not really, you misworded?? " "Open tapping" " twice, mentioned it was in combat settings (which it isnt), and now say you meant "loot all" - which also isnt in Combat settings.

That is one HECK of a miswording; more of a "misparagraphing".

Would you like to change your plea to "I posted in the wrong thread by mistake" ?? We have all done that at one time; I even know of someone who regularly accidentally posts comments meant for a Ham Radio forum into an ISP forum (and possibly into a dating forum).

change my plea? i never offered one.

look, if you can't deal with how i worded something, who cares? are you seriously going to continue to harangue me on my word choice? is it REALLY that important?

    no, it's not.

i made a post, it was wrong. i admitted as much, but here i am, having responded to yet another one of your posts trying to call me out on it. i made a mistake. deal with it and move on.

Yes, I've experienced the same. Open tapping has been working just fine in both directions, other folks are getting credit for mobs I hit first, and the other way around as well.

Yes you did, yes you were, no you havent, yes you are, yes you did, OK.

In the mean time, "open tapping" can be fixed by using Texaco Premium 98RON; which can be found under the social tab in the options panel.

Some important info regarding open tapping.

    • You need to hit a mob in order to get credit. If the mob blocks/parrys/evades/resists your attack then you won't get credit.

    • If you manage to hit mob then no matter who kills it or how far away you run from the fight you will get credit when it dies.

    • Taunting mobs doesn't count as you hitting them so you will still not get credit(I haven't noticed if it's still like this).

    Additionally:
    • Quest boundaries are VERY specific. Even if you pull a mob in an area where the quest will credit if it dies outside of that area, you will not get credit.
    • You may see damage above the head of the mob from a skill, but if it was already dead you do not get credit (Killing blow skills from various classes confirm this)
    • I have heard, but never seen confirmation that the xp for a complete solo kill and a kill where other players hit it is slightly reduced. Even if it is true, the point is moot because you kill the mob much faster and can move on to the next one thereby getting more xp overall.

I hope your friends are understanding of the simple limits of code in these instances and are enjoying themselves on the server!

Zero issues here with open tapping throughout my whole leveling run. Numerous times when I was soloing elite/fellowship areas (Warden life) I would have someone show up and run around with me to get kill credit and we had no issues regardless who hit the mob first. It became a habit for me to just drop a dot on each mob and run on to the next mob so anyone around could tap it if they wanted (it would die to dot either way).
