Think you're asking for trouble with a statement like that.

However as someone who has had consistent problems with getting characters logged on over the many many months this problem has existed [on Evernight], I so far have not had any problems since the update.

There are still numerous very bad laggs in the PvMP Areas, I at least died twice through I could not use any skills but the snare dots/barrages were still doing their damage.

Ironically I received my first ever non-Evernight "naked" load on one of the German servers this week. I put it down to a lack of footfall in the area at the time as pops were in the low 200s at the time.

The Ingredients Crate chore has has become a breeze once again, alts logged out next to the crate instead of a dual account multi-portal/stable ride hour and a half campaign. When you can log in with confidence and know you will be able to go about your intended goals of the day - the difference is palpable. Negotiating all the games other foibles, easier to bare if you don't start every session aggrieved.

I can't offer an opinion on what the critical flaw might be as you've been typically vague on substance. At least one or two engineers have been shamed into fixing some of their mistakes on the quiet of late so I'd like to thank them.

Apologies for reviving this thread after a couple of days of inactivity, but I felt it would be foolish to start another thread when discussing the same problem.

I had a really hard time logging into Evernight today. I've been running through the new Epic quest on my main character, who is a deeding completionist (and as such, likely to have a more difficult time than some other classes loading in) and had some serious problems today.

    1) On my first attempt to get on, it took me two tries to do so. The first attempt failed (got to the 'The connection to the server has failed' with the quit box black screen), but having whacked the graphics down to very low and dropped the textures, I got in. This was in a relatively quiet area (near the White Mare, just upstream from Limlok).

    2) I was able to play for a while, although the game was stuttering and lagging a fair bit, before crashing after reaching the new mission hub and attempting to speak to Durin (the name of the location escapes me). I knew that I was going to be in for a tough time getting back on (given that this is the hub of the new update), but I wasn't prepared for how tough it was!

    3) I attempted to get on 5 times. Each time, I ended up with 'the connection to the server has failed'. I then decided to try to see if I could load another character - this worked, although it took at least 5 minutes to load that character up (and still with graphics as low as possible). I then tried to switch to my main - and it failed again.

    4) After one more try I finally managed to get back into the game - but given the wait time, I feel it must have been very close to losing connection again. I then played for about 40 minutes before crashing, again, in the War of the Three Peaks zone (which I think was brought on by the awful poisonous gas clouds).

    5) It then took me three more tries to get back on after this. I very nearly gave up, but as I was near the end of the epic, I persevered and managed to get another short period of playing time before logging off.

As you can imagine, I wasn't best satisfied with my experience today - it feels like the recent patch has undone any fix that was brought in with U28, because the load times with characters with lots of completed deeds was still painfully long and on several occasions failed to connect.

    Sounds like a tough session.

I still haven't got back to an evening play schedule after weeks of playing off-peek.

Such an experience would have me first checking my connection to the game servers to see if the problem was nearer home. I do that with a tracert in a command window. If it's my ISP or a backbone internet issue there's little to be made posting here. The last months has lead me to always monitor things with a tracert gls.lotro.com a mouse click and two key presses away from running and Task Manager monitoring one click away. If you monitor these regularly you get to notice obvious differences to the norm. Others might suggest more extreme measures, I'm fine with simpler discrete checks.

It was purported that measures were put in to help the highly baggaged character loading in the update but very thin on details. The Evernight "fix", something different(?), was supposed to be rolled out to other servers but got no mention in the recent notes. Despite their years of experience delivering a Hotfix seems like something to stumble through. I gave up trying to play the evening of the hotfix. I wish they were as thorough as you were with your play session experience.

The worst of the summer's server stability issues never got SSG to take ownership and tell us what happened and what was done to resolve things, for good. So we can't know if they can return again at any time. Your experience certainly looks more akin to those issues. I never can tell if we are being fobbed off by our CM or others are fobbing off our CM and he's just passing it along. Seems like they are following a path littered with rakes and they manage to tread on every one.

But regarding the "naked" load and yard display, it's still working well, other issues aside.

It's a subject that I love and since the freeps have left the pvp.

No wonder you like PVMP with your latency, you have at least 80ms on every European player on every skill. Problem with their internet and computer is it's not Jersey City, lots to go wrong on a long journey.

Thanks - I really appreciate your suggestions here. I've no doubt that my computer isn't exactly high end, but up until this point it hasn't had significant problems loading or playing the game (and my WiFi has always been excellent).

I raised the problem on the forum particularly for three reasons:
    1) There was a distinct difference between a highly 'baggaged' character and one that was not (e.g. the one that was not actually managed to get into the game on the first try!)
    2) The 'naked' load never kicked in during the many attempts to log in yesterday. I have had the 'naked load' previously after a failed attempt to log in, and it has always got me into the game on the second attempt, but for some reason I didn't get that once yesterday (I was wishing for it on the logging screen!)
    3) The purported 'Evernight fix' was meant to have solved these sorts of issues, so I wanted to flag that it hadn't (at least in my case).

Wi-Fi suggest a laptop, neither ideal. Really, invest in an ethernet cable. I think the fixes were to sort specific issues not generic loading issues. Getting wired up removes a bunch of potential issues at a stroke. My monitoring is all about knowing it's not my end, you can't say the same with Wi-fi.

A fair point - but when the problems have never occurred previously with the same laptop, it would suggest that the problem was on the server's end, particularly given the previous issues with loading high-baggage characters, and I wanted to flag it, given the topic of this thread and the claim that the issue was fixed.

    None of us are immune...

The game threw an exception and added to the LotroClient64.log:
