Let's Make a List of Every Adaptation of Tolkien's Work Ever Made
Let's face it: there have been many, many, MANY adaptations of Tolkien's work over the years -- a lot of which was done long before Peter Jackson changed the world as we know it. He might be the best-known, but he was hardly the first, and certainly won't be the last.
This is a list of every work that the TVTropes Community has been able to find: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.p...ensLegendarium. On that page you'll find everything from the mainstream to the ridiculously obscure -- how many of you saw the 1985 Russian adaptation of The Hobbit, or the 1993 Finnish television series (in which Bilbo is rocking an EPIC moustache)?
And yet, despite being one of the most thorough lists of its kind, it's incomplete. Observe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok1VF75p10o. This is a list of games based on either the original novels, or Peter Jackson's films. When I watched it the first time, I learned about some ultra-obscure mobile phone games that I'd never heard of, much less played. BE WARNED: The mobile phone games will make your ears bleed, so turn the volume down.
And of course, I couldn't make this list without a link to this gem from Tolkien Gateway: http://www.tolkiengateway.net/wiki/T...f_Middle_Earth. This is another parody ala Bored of the Rings...but UNlike BOTR, no one's heard of it. How few people know about this book, do you ask? I can't find anything about it on Wikipedia or Youtube.
Usually I wouldn't bother including fan fiction on a list like this, because (A) there are so many fanfics, we'd be here all day, and (B) most fan fiction is...well, deserving of its reputation, but I can't help but remind you that The Hunt for Gollum and Born of Hope exist:
And for SOME REASON, TVTropes DOESN'T have an article about the upcoming Amazon series (which, considering what I've heard about the goings-on behind the scenes of that show, might be a good thing). So I'm contractually obligated to remind you about that.
