When I log in I get a message on the panel "loading Microsoft C+" & the game opens a link in Safari to a Microsoft support page. Any ideas how to stop it & could it be the reason the lag on my machine since the update is as bad as it was during the week of "not our fault" issues last month. So far I've had the server drop me 3 times today!

Remember that the Mac client is the Windows client packaged with WINE. The Windows client requires a Windows component update from Microsoft to run correctly, but only for actual Windows OS computers. WINE performs the necessary “translations” for the Windows executable to run on a Mac without those dependencies and is smart enough to update itself each time it is launched. So you will get that web page each time you launch the Mac LOTRO client until SSG decides they don’t need to nag their Windows user base about the Windows component update anymore; but it will otherwise have no effect on your play experience and requires you to do nothing.
For whatever it’s worth, I am not experiencing any special lag or disconnect issues as you reported.

I am having the same issue on my Mac. Played last night fine but today it seems stuck on that message.
Me too. It's not a problem as I just close the Microsoft tab in my browser (Safari.) Game loads normally and I'm playing fine. Seems like a little hiccup that will hopefully be fixed..."soon." (On at least one occasion I did have to close the Launcher and reload.)

Mine doesn't even open a browser, but I have to go into Activity Monitor and kill one of the Wine Preloaders that has like99% of resources. Once I force quit that in activity monitor it loads up.
My issues is somewhat different but also started with last update. I close the Microsoft C++ browser windows fine. And I get in fine...once...after I log out and try to relog, the game worlds show "Closed." All of them. Then I use my old Dell to log in and all is fine. So something in the new update is triggering a glitch in Wine or somewhere along the line. I'm trying to see if there is a timer on this...I'll see if I can log in tomorrow. It has been several hours and all worlds still "Closed" on my Mac but open on my Dell.
Me too. I haven't play the game for a month. It was fine before but every time I started the launcher today it was stuck at that "Processing Microsoft Visual C++ 2015~2019 ..." message for ~5min, website pops up, ignore it, and launcher goes back to updating the game. Hopefully things can improve after updating.
Ps: I noticed there was a computer with CD icon (like the ones on windows) flashed out when the website popped up.
The launcher was also stuck on some certain file download during the update (today was client_general.dat-17574, file 298 of 3564 at 89%). It happened before as well. Does anyone else having this problem? It might be because I'm playing the game with VPN. I'm not sure.

Thanks for this information, Tralfazz. I'd been simply quitting out of Safari when the C++ page opens up and haven't noticed any difference in game play .. which to my surprise and delight, is significantly improved over the mac version we played with for years. Helpful to know that we're not being negatively impacted by this issue, other than the annoyance factor.

Which one did you kill? I have a 'wine-preloader' and 2 'wine64-preloader'.
Mine wasn't using that much CPU. In fact the % dropped when it's stuck on processing C++.

Well in my Mac for some reason I get multiple preloaders. The ones that I can kill that will advance are the non 64-bit ones.
I've recently reinstalled my client and I don't have to go through hoops anymore to get into game, but now I get two browser tabs that automatically open with the C++
Thank you for your understanding and have a great rest of the day.

I'm more than a bit disappointed that they don't even want to pretend to support a decent chunk of the user base. As I originally posted, this does not prevent me from playing the game, it's more of an annoyance. This response is unacceptable; if you don't want to support the platform, please don't offer the game at all. (I will respond to this directly, as well, just wanted you to know that we Mac users are out in the cold.)
I wonder if one of you that is having the issue where you get a bunch of WINE wrappers instead of just one might post the contents of your UserPreferences.ini and UserPreferences64.ini files.
I suspect that the problem you're experiencing is related to the version of the LOTRO client executable being called when you hit the PLAY button in the LOTRO launcher app. While I would like to see the full contents of both your files the most important line is GameClientType=X where X is a numeral between 1 and 3. 1 is lotroclient.exe which is the 32-bit client. 2 is lotroclient_awesomium.exe, another 32-bit client designed to run on older versions of Windows OS. 3 is lotroclient64.exe, the 64-bit client. If you're running the "Mac" client (the Windows client packaged with WINE offered as an installable by SSG) under Mojave or earlier you should have GameClientType=3. Running a 32-bit client might be the cause of this issue.
It is also possible that WINE is attempting to run the wrong version of the LOTRO launcher app (which is the one that runs before the client and presents you with the fields to enter your login credentials and choose a server). If that is the case I'm not sure how to repair it short of a reinstall. If you were to just delete the "lotroclient" application, which is just a starter app to get WINE running and pointed at the right files to launch the LOTRO executables, the reinstall would not take long because all the actual game data (30gb-40gb) is kept in ~/Library/Application Support/com.standingstonegames.lotro and your preferences are kept in ~/Documents/The Lord of the Rings Online. Therefore, a reinstall won't have to actually download very much and shouldn't take that long if you don't delete those two folders. I do recommend running your favorite backup process before attempting this just in case something goes wrong.

Here you go (and thanks for the help!) Deleted my personal info purposely.
Bothketbog- Yes, sorry, I should have stated in my request that you redact any personal data such as your account name and played servers.
Are you experiencing the multiple WINE preloaders issue or are you just getting the browser window/tab to the Microsoft C+ page? The first message you posted in this thread makes me think the latter. If the launcher is just annoying you by opening Safari to that Microsoft page, that isn't a bug – I explained why it's happening earlier in this thread, it's up to SSG to decide to change the nag code. I get that browser page each time I run the LOTRO launcher when playing the game using the "Mac" WINE client under Mojave. I do NOT get that browser page when I run the LOTRO launcher using the Windows client under Big Sur within Crossover 20. But in neither case do I get spurious WINE preloaders (or even one that is consuming more than its expected share of system resources).
You've got GameClientType=3 which is the 64-bit client, lotroclient64.exe. That should not be generating any issues with the WINE preloaders.
If you are getting multiple WINE preloaders, make a backup of your UserPreferences.ini file to a safe location then edit the following lines in ~/Documents/The Lord of the Rings Online/UserPreferences.ini:
AllowMultipleInstances=False
KeepLauncherOpen=True
Very minor thing not related to this thiread: Your WindowedResolution=1024x768 which isn't 16:9. You probably never play in Windowed mode but if you want your UI elements to retain their relative positions should you ever switch to Windowed, you might want to change that to 1680x945 or some other 16:9 resolution.

No, no multiple launchers, just the new tab in Safari. As i said, an annoyance, not stopping me from playing. Thanks for your explanation.
No multiple pre-loaders.
I actually play Full Screen (Windowed) and resolution is not an issue.
Thank you so much for all your advice and information; more than I get from SSG!
