Is there any real answer other than Old Toby pipe-weed?

What crop would you farm if you lived in Middle-earth and had to be a farmer?

I would farm barley (spring, winter, and black), as well as rye berries. They seem to be the highest in demand by cooks.

I would seriously investigate creating a hybrid: Old Toby combined with Athelas (Regenerates 3% Morale in or out of combat, duration; 2min. cooldown; 3 min. Stacks with any Morale regenerator.).

I would get the genotype figured and then build a complex of green-houses.

With this product adventurers could smoke a bowl before and after consuming a fine meal of regenerative and fortifying foods. Then top it off with some trail-mix and head for the battlefield.
Then while waiting for the rest of your group to repair/replenish you could have another bowl and blow enormous green smoke-rings. (Those smoke rings would have an AOE: +1% Morale for all PCs within 5m).

My crop would be pipeweed of course... and maybe a side project of grapes.

Something that would take care of itself. I'm to lazy to tend to the fields.

    Mushrooms!

I would farm mushrooms and taters, and possibly keep a few chickens. That way I could make a delicious farmer's breakfast. It's the kind of good hearty that hobbits seem to enjoy

*Flowers* of course! ...My second choice is Pipeweed- the Butterflies kind. (Although, it would be great if I could produce a crop that made a FIREWORKS Smoke design.) ^_^

Breadfruit! It is a very versatile superfood the size of a pumpkin can replace wheat or potatoes on any recipe either sweet or salty. It grow in beautiful noble trees that produce all year long & can also will make neat new house decorations when blooming with flowers & fruits.
