Weird Staff While Forums Under Maintenance

Trying to get to the Forums while they were under maintenance produced some strange stuff. Such as a DayBreak page at one point.

BUT, the best is it took me to live.lotro.com at one point. OK, nothing strange you say, except ..... its a WB GAMES BOSTON page. It still works, try it:

Not surprised, i mean some stuff for long time still has my account turbine, and WB Games Boston is basically Turbine renamed, so somewhere the old site is still connected i guess.

If you look at a list of the actual network requests in the developer tools of your browser, the redirect is actually live.lotro.com -> www.turbine.com -> careers.wbgames.com

So it's benign, but funny.

This is just an after-effect of the way the technical split happened, lotta "path of least resistance"-type stuff going on to get things functional faster. We've slowly been disentangling stuff over the years, but the website update process certainly exposed some additional chunks.

Yes it has amused me as well. When we do get new forums this will hopefully be easier, but for now we're doing it to preserve bits of the old LOTRO.com and forums that need to be preserved. Technically you can also just use lotro.com/forums which is nice.

There is some else that has changed: all forum pages show as loading (the little circle in firefox tabs continuing to rotate) even if the page looks fully loaded to the naked eye.
Apparently there is some inconspicuous or hidden asset these pages are trying to load. Maybe it is the icon for the tab? When the page finally gives up after a minute or two, the tab's icon is a default one instead of The Ring.

The editor is broken as well, all the usual UI elements are gone except for font, font size and font colour.

I do use UBlock Origin, but it reports only googleanalytics as being blocked.

I can see that too for the editor, not sure what is up there? Only tried the WYSIWYG editor though.

And the favicon seems to be pointing to : http://maintenance.daybreakgames.com/ - which is the "under maintenance" page rather than the actual .ico file?

The intention is to replace the forums altogether, which will solve remaining issues. For now we've had to create a sort of pseudo version of the old lotro.com to support the top of the forums, and we've had to do a bunch of redirects and the like to keep the forums and its log in system running. Ultimately this is a stop-gap until new, better forums arrive. No ETA to announce but perhaps late this year or early next year?

When such happens, here and eventually Kobold-side, how much of our current forum info is saved? Old threads/builds/game info, etc.
