So, um, it's been a heck of a real-life week for me so apologies to Boraxxe who sent me a gentle and fun PM reminder and to the other players for waiting so long for such a lame clue:
I shared my name with a high-born Elf married to an Elf-queen
I was no Elf and never touched the eastern shores
My child shared a name with an Elf-queen
Yet there is no elf in my line
Which lived on in Middle-Earth longer than any Elf
What is my name?
I know, it isn't even doggerel. So here's a bunny:
Do not hate me because I am beautiful.
That's right, Itharas! Celeborn was the name of the white tree of Tol Eressëa. A seedling of Celeborn grew to become Nimloth, the white tree of Númenor. And while it's not impossible that some few Elves lingered far into the Fourth Age, the white tree of Gondor planted by Aragorn and its own likely descendants are nearly certain to have lasted far longer.
On the contrary my friend. I thought it was a great riddle...had me scratching my head for a couple of days.
I spent an inordinate amount of time searching Hobbit genealogies trying to find Hobbit children named after elves.
Needless to say, it was a vain search.
Grats Itharas! Well done indeed.
It looks like Itharas has not posted anything since the 12th.
I sent a PM, but no response so far.
Hello Itharas... Are you out there somewhere?
We need a new Riddle.
And I need to find out about your sig..."Well, I suppose you could always say "flame resistant sunglasses" if you prefer that to "shoes"
I am dying to get an explanation.
Itharas.exe has stopped working…
Anyway here’s a new riddle. Sorry for the wait.
Pearl or silver, champagne or cream
or even mushroom, it might seem.
Look and see? - you’ll never know;
only one I can show.
Whether G/g or G/G,
it’s all the same to me, you see.
“The dark lord has nine” or so they say
“but we have one mightier than they.”
As to that, there is yet doubt
Among these humans who cannot count.
But in our number were princes three.
(Actually, one of them was me!)
Who am I?
Well, I suppose you could always say "flame resistant sunglasses" if you prefer that to "shoes"
OK, I'll take a stab at this to get the ball rolling. I'm not sure of this at all.
Who is Peregrin Took?
In Minas Tirith, they called him the "Prince of the Halflings". (1)
Legolas was the son of the elvish King, Thranduil. (2)
Aragorn was heir to thrones of Anor and Gondor. (3)
(Awkwardly pretends like it hadn’t slipped my mind that Legolas was a prince too… Not that it matters, since he wasn’t present at this particular moment in time anyway.)
Not quite what I had in mind. 0/3; try again.
EDIT: Also just to clarify one thing, since it occurs to me I may not have been entirely fair with this… Treat this similar to the Mesopotamia question a while back. You can get the answer entirely from Tolkien knowledge, but if you have the outside knowledge to apply to the first stanza, the answer should become significantly more obvious.

Now I am remembering the Last Debate in Aragorn's tent outside Minas Tirith when The Captains of the West were deciding how to answer the threat on their doorstep.
There were at least 3 princes attending. Elrond's sons have been referred to as "princes". Also there was Aragorn, Eomer and...
Who is Prince Imrahil?
I may be wide off the mark for this one, but here goes
Who is Shadowfax?
It seems your first stanza refers to the coats of horses, and dare I say G/G refers to the genotype of the Mearas? Since G/g is the same, the G gene must be dominant. Very tricky of you, to have genetics in a Tolkien riddle
Continuing with the guess, Shadowfax's speed rivalled the nine fell-beasts of the Nine, and thus is also "mightier than they."
Finally, he accompanied Princes Legolas and Imrahil in the Host of the West, he himself being the prince of all horses.
That’s it! G is the grey gene and is indeed dominant over everything.
Faramir the (future) prince of Ithilien was supposed to be the third one rather than Legolas and the scene was when Faramor was first brought back to Minas Tirith by Gandalf on Shadowfax and Imrahil before the battle but I think your interpretation actually fits even better.
Gratz, the jacket is yours
Well, I suppose you could always say "flame resistant sunglasses" if you prefer that to "shoes"
Last vessel of hope, the children's plea
Passed to stone-girdle, the cleft of light
There it came to pale cities unseen
And never again would foam-seas it ride.
Ah! silver-sailed and golden-oared
From birchwood wrought, ever hope it bore!
White flower of foam, from then till now
A boat well renowned with swan at prow.
Pure guess: What is Vingilot?
Eats like a Hobbit, drinks like a Dwarf, farts like an Orc...
Haven't heard anything from Fatty.
I sent a PM, but so far no reply. He hasn't posted anything on the Forums since his correct guess.
Anyone know how to contact him?
Sorry, totally forgot about this... Anyone who feels like it can post a new question
Eats like a Hobbit, drinks like a Dwarf, farts like an Orc...
OK then...here's a new one:
Some folks will find this one extremely easy.
Other may find it totally perplexing. A sort of combination Tolkien and Lotro Jeopardy!
I think it's time for a little alliteration:
First find this in the front of Fil Gashen
Then browse near the beginning of the Brandywine
Now mosey to the middle of Mirobel
Examine what's near the end of Elderslade
This ordeal ends with the opening of Ost Guruth
Who is Frodo?
Also, congratulations to all contributors of this thread: we made it to 1000 posts!![]()
