Lost Lore Bookcases question

When one finally gets a lost lore bookcase or cases, do we still need the books and copies of books? And did we ever need them in the 1st place?
All told they can take up to 21 inventory slots.

The thing about the bookcase is that it checks the character your on for book completion. While anyone can click on the bookcase, not many will be able to use it unless they completed the Lost Lore quests. The one benefit it has over the books is that you can force it to stop reading. The books, on the other hand, do not have such a restriction. Anyone can click on them and read them. They also still make good decorations.
