When do you use your Landscape Soldier?

When is the best time to use the Soldier?

I noticed when I use mine, he attacks literally everything in sight and doesn't wait for me.

The skirmish soldiers on landscape were never fine tuned to be particularly helpful like some other games. The other issue is that SSG stopped doing anything to level up the skirmish soldiers after level 105ish so they are not very helpful after that level. I have not seen or read anything about plans to upgrade the skirmish soldiers so not sure if they are worth using. They might be good if you use a sage/healer type if you want to avoid them attacking everything.

I personally never use my Skirmish Soldier for Landscape and I'm not aware of, or have noticed, anyone using them for Landscape. I suppose if you are struggling with an area or trying an area that is a few levels above your character. Never saw the need for it and figured it would end up being potentially expansive to maintain for a considerable time.

Maybe for when Landscape Difficulty gets implemented into the regular servers?

Captain with a Herald, Skirmish Soldier, and the Rohirric Follower pet could be fun if you want a small army for landscape lol

Some types of soldier will go ahead of you and attack at will, others hang behind you and just boost you. Squishy classes may benefit more from an offensive soldier that can take hits while they protect the soldier. If you don't want yours to charge ahead, pick a defensive soldier like sage or herbalist. Up to you and your playstyle.

When the maximum level was 100, Herbalist skirmish soldiers were very useful for solo fighting Roving Threats.

Since I actually try to avoid defeats, I have used Herbalists in the past as an insurance policy against disconnects and lag.

Above level 100, even a Herbalist becomes mostly useless and I have not used one in some years. Below level 100, Herbalists remain useful for solo work in group areas like LimLight Gorge. As someone above mentioned, if landscape difficulty comes to the main servers, Herbalists will become useful for that.

When Mordor was new I used LS to help soloing some orc camps for dalies. Was not much help honestly, but enough to survive.

Don't feel the need to use them now, unless perhaps soloing something big on-level. Too bad they are not allowed in instances - they would be of marginally better use there as distraction at the very least.
