I'm probably wrong again, but perhaps Isildur? Maybe you could try to make the riddle a bit more specific somehow... it seems like a lot of things could fit that riddle.

I think you're right again, Berephon. I'm going to make an attempt at a riddle that may stump you! Of course it obviously won't...

    Indeed!

Then he looked for his sword that he had let fall; for even as he struck his blow his arm was numbed, and now he could only use his left hand. And behold! there lay his weapon, but the blade was smoking like a dry branch that has been thrust in a fire; and as he watched it, it writhed and withered and was consumed.

So passed the sword of the Barrow-downs, work of Westernesse. But glad would he have been to know its fate who wrought it slowly long ago in the North-kingdom when the Dunedain were young, and chief among their foes was the dread realm of Angmar and its sorceror king. No other blade, not though mightier hands had wielded it, would have dealt that foe a wound so bitter, cleaving the undead flesh, breaking the spell that knit his unseen sinews to his will.

Hmm, I've never been good with rhyme and metre (though I hate poetry without it), but then not all riddles are poems...

Shadow of the East am I,
    Bound by sorcery to Sorcery.
    Little do my eyes see,
But much my mind may ken.
    Second to my Chief,
The Chief of all, I know best.

The answer, Berephon, is Khamul - the nazgul of great power second only to the Witch King.

Now here is a riddle I've written that is hopefully quite stumping:

I live in the hills far away,
I'm the last from Weathertop to the sea,
If ever I go out wandering,
All scream and run in terror from me,
    I dwell alone very sadly,
I am indeed a monstrous beast,
But if ever you dare to approach me,
you'd certainly be in for a feast!

It is, most certainly...I'll have to think about that one.

Would that be the Brandywine (Baranduin) river?

I don't think so, as the Lhún is also a river between Weathertop and the Sea.

Hmm.... I've never heard of him before... nice guess though, if he existed he would fit the riddle nicely.

Nope, the answer to my riddle is from actual lore, not a quest or anything that Turbine came up with.

The second line is just screaming at me, "You know what this is!" but it is masterfully eluding me.

    Re: The Riddle-Game

I started thinking it could be the Palantir of Elostirion, in the Tower Hills, which, when used, showed the user the Isle of Tol Eressea, which could be a "feast" for the eyes...

...only it's not a "monstrous" beast, and couldn't go out "wandering", as opposed to other Palantiri whose gaze could "wander" wherever the user willed.

    Good riddle!

    Re: The Riddle-Game

Wow lots of riddles and guesses, excellent
I guessed Klapton's Ioreth and barrow-blade, awesome riddles!
I knew berephon's was a lesser nazgul, but didnt know the name haha
As for TLA's latest... hmm very tough
    Gildhur's answer inspired me haha
Im thinking its a boar, but its not Pork Chop lol, it's the giant boar that that king of rohan hunted, killed, and got killed by. Dont know if it had a name

anyway best guess i can come up with for now ill keep working on it

BTW, for my riddle, the answer is not Denethor or his palantir. The answers do fit a lot of it though. The last line though i dont think really works with them... hmm
Anyway keep guessing. I tried to make this one really hard, obscure (lore-wise) and metaphorical lol

    Re: The Riddle-Game

To make it easier for all of you guys, the second line doesn't really have a whole lot to do with my riddle. You'd best not spend a lot of time thinking about it; it's rather insignificant. The answer isn't that big boar, elvyen. As for the last line of your riddle, concerning the palantir of Minas Anor, after Denethor's death if the weak minded looked into it they could see only two hands whithering in flame. That kind of fits the last line of your riddle. I'll keep thinking about yours, though, since neither Denethor nor the palantir of Minas Anor are correct.

Elvyen, I really doubt I'm right, but Hurin kind of almost sort of fits your riddle. I'll keep thinking, though, as he doesn't seem to match most of it.

Is it Beorn the shape-shifter? If I recall correctly, he fed Bilbo and his companions in the Hobbit, no? (It's been a LONG time since I read the Hobbit!)

Sorry, Beorn is incorrect. He actually fits most of the riddle except that he isn't alone or sad. He has animals to keep him company.

And though we are never told he DOESN'T wander west of Weathertop, that doesn't fit much either, hehe. But then, you kinda gave us that hint about that line being no so important...

Elvyen's riddle makes me think of Gondolin... and Ulmo... and Maeglin... why am I thinking of Ulmo? I need to get some new ideas.
