    Middle-earth Feedback: Forochel

Far to the north, beyond the borders of Evendim, lie the icy barrens known as Forochel. Take a brief look at the newest region, and home to the Lossoth, introduced in Book 13: Doom of the Last-king with this week’s Points of Interest update!

Looks good; definitely pleased that there exists possibility here for significant developer interpretation. Areas like this, which contain less restraint, seem like they would offer greater insight into the goals of the developers, for we're seeing less of the lore restrictions and more of the personal decisions made by the development team than areas with a lot of prior elements that must be taken into consideration.

I peeked at it on Roheryn and it looks awesome - just peeked mind you cuz I don't want to spoil all the surprises. Can't wait to explore and quest - there's a ton of new rep things there!

Can we make this the official "When? When? When?" thread?

You'll have a hard time with anything lower than lvl45, lots of mobs and they aggro on you from a good distance. It's very easy to get jumped by more than one as well.

I haven't done any quests there but ran around and killed some mobs on Roheryn. Let me tell you this, I am not going to level my hunter until it's released; awesome place.

From what I've seen so far, Forochel is fantastic. The only negative I've seen so far is the whistling for horses. I like the effect and the first whistle, but the second whistle should be removed. It's just a bit too much noise.

    Re: Middle-earth Feedback: Forochel

I noticed there is no sea life like whales or seals or walruses

I was a bit dissapointed that the bay didnt have bigger waves

it would have been alot of fun if you had some sking or slippery ice to play on

I noticed there is ore but the wood was missing from the forrests

can you make it colder and windier

i was dissapointed that many of the places I explored wernt very interesting for example the ship was just an empty shell with nothing interesting to see once you fought your way there.

I noticed that several areas of the zone felt walled in mainly down in the south east and the southern lake and ice canyon,, I assume as time goes on you guys will do more tweeking and soffen these like you did in bree,, there was that whole southern middle area that seemed blank and unaccessable west of the ice canyon and south of the sabertooth dens.

love the weather effect, makes the world much more immersive though id like to see the charactors be able to shivver or something

dont take this as a total flame,, you guys have a good rep for your patches and expansions
the only concern I have is 10 years from now will lotro be top heavy with empty noob zones like eq? I hope you can figure some ways to avoid this situation.

like to see some collection quests
like to see some public works projects
like to see functining siege weapons and some destroyable strustures
like to see a big increase in forageables preferably items you cant find elsewhere.

Can you expand on this statement? It's interesting but I can't quite decipher what you're trying to say.

    Re: Middle-earth Feedback: Forochel

    This stuck out at me:

"The Lossoth of Forochel make the cold plains their home, living off fish and wild elk."

My question is this: Is there a quest in Forochel that requires me to run around collecting elk lips for an obscure Lossoth dish? It wouldn't be a new zone if there's not at least one quest that asks me to kill a mob and harvest an obscure bodily organ for food.

And for the record, I'm totally looking forward to the next book. And the one after. And Moria. And the next book after Moria. And... and...

A Book is never late. Nor is it early. It arrives precisely when it means to.

I think what he is trying to say here is that if you played EQ, there are litterally entire zones where you will find no one playing or even running through for weeks on end. These zones were usefull @ a certain level during a certain expansion. But as the game grew, new expansions were added, new zones were introduced and even though these older zones catered to a certain level, so did the newer zones. Thus making wastelands of the older zones. EQ did attempt at reviving these older zones by adding dungeons in them but alas they were just not attractive enough to bring back the populace.

I guess the ultimate test of time for any MMO gaming company is finding a way re-animate an older zone, and somehow make it exciting again to the players who have already depleted it of it's resources.

Anyhow, just my 2 coppers worth!

    Cheers!

Call in and tell them you have the lotro virus, and it will be contagious for 3 days.

Even worse is if Thursday is your day off and you get to stay home, but because of the update you can't play LotRO until sometime in the afternoon!

I feel like the blizzard effects could be even more intense. Right now it switches back and forth from the usual light snowflakes to some swirly whites, and doesn't really affect the visuals very much. What do you guys think?

I guess I can see why it's a high level zone, but I just wish it wasn't... the area looks very fun to explore and tinker around in, but at the rate I level, it's going to be a long time before I can go there comfortably. At least I'm at the point now where I can spend time in Evendim doing quests and whatnot, as the mid level areas (Lone Lands, North Downs) were just ugly and boring for the most part.

When I first read the Appendex I remember coming across the story of Arvedui's flight to the North and thinking, "I wish there were more details for that story." Well, hurray to the dev team for taking that seed of impiration (just a few sentences IIRC) and turning it into an amazing (and fun!) place.
