    Allow me to introduce myself

Greetings; my name is Luis (Duwis), a new web developer here at Turbine working on the Lorebook. I have been lurking about to get a feel for what the community is buzzing about. I'm currently addressing some of the items being discussed.

I'll be watching this and the bug report forum and will do what I can to keep everyone updated on our progress. I'm also open to ideas you might have to enhance the Lorebook. Not all of them might make it in, but I'm always looking for something new and shiny to add.

    Cheers.

Advanced search for items by what stat bonuses they give. Show me all the 50th level Light Armour that gives bonuses to Fate. Show me all the necklaces from 45-50 that give bonuses to Evade.

Re: Allow me to introduce myself

    Nice to meet you!

    Suggestions for the lorebook:

    1. The LB does not easily or readily provide "filterable" content. Such as, when I am looking for jewelry, I get multiple pages of items that are too low level. I would like to filter the jewelry a la the Auction House that allows you to set the level of the items you are looking for. This would be delightful especially for weapons and other items.

    2. I have found it difficult to search for some of the items and bosses due to the Area and Instances. For instance, if I am looking for Barz or Zurm, they will pop up under creatures (troll-kind), but the quests or area is not cross-referenced, if appropriate.

I would like to search for Elrond, description, and then a description of the quests you can receive from him that is clickable. It would be a lot of work, but it does not do a lot of good to put a Barz or Zurm, or other creature in the Lorebook and not provide the appropriate context for why that guy is in there.

Welcome! A small suggestion is for Turbine to renew lorebook.com - it used to direct you straight to lorebook.lotro.com, but Turbine needs to renew it now!

Re: Allow me to introduce myself

I only want one feature (set of features?)

A list of ALL the mastery, and new & old single-use recipe drops, including what crafting and tier they are for.

I ask for this because we do not have any useful information in the popup tooltip for the item in game.
And "This item can be used in crafting" is NOT clear information.

And as much as the third-party sources have been some help, with book 13, they are now all wrong.
Additionaly, it is wrong for us to have to rely on someone else to do all the research, to keep it up-to-date, to keep it online, and to keep it correct.

edit; Oh, and welcome to the fray.

I'm not 'official', but I believe stat bonuses are actually converted into text within the database. Since there is no raw data stating some type of 'stat_id' and 'stat_bonus', it would be extremely difficult to do such a thing. You would basically have to parse all the stat bonus text of all the times, then run them through a regular expression to acquire the 'stat_bonus', then compare that number to your requirements (assuming you would want something like '15 Fate or higher'). If the actual number wouldn't mean that much to you, there would still have to be a regular expression search, but a simplified regex search performed on the database table would suffice. Either type of search could load a server pretty heavily.

I don't really mean to link to another solution, but www.lotroalliance.com/items.php allows you to search for quite a bit of criteria.

    You're first search:
    • Item Type: Light Armour
    • Min Level: 50
    • Max Level: 50
    • Stat Name: Fate
    • Stat Mod: {optional, '15' would search for any item matching other criteria with at least 15 Fate}

Would yield these results: Light Armour search

That website, by no means, has all the items that the Lorebook has, but it has been catching up. And while the Lorebook may never be able to do a stat bonus search, that website has it built in.

I believe the Lorebook opted to do stat bonuses this way out of simplicity. Here's a quote from a Turbine employee:

Something like the 'value' of an item is a very simple numeric field. Effects are more involved. There are a LOT of different types of effects and even a single type can be fairly complicated to build up the description string from the underlying data files.

Replicating the logic to show the effect string from the underlying data proved to be a lot more work than it was worth. Instead, we're working on a system to get the effect strings from the game itself (as opposed to the underlying data files) so we can leverage the game logic that takes that data and makes it into a readable description. Unfortunately, this also means that it involves time from the game team which means it's competing with other game updates (i.e. it's going to take a little longer).

In the meantime, as others have mentioned, the wiki can always be updated by the community to contain additional information. It's a wiki. Like any wiki, if something is 'worthless', you can always update it to make it worthwhile.

Hi Duvis, glad someone official is watching these forums now. It has felt pretty pointless to post anything with the only the crickets responding.

Anyway - the advanced search is nice, and the enchancements (like I want maces with ICPR) would be good, but if the data is innacurate then searching is rather pointless.

There are 2 things I think are more important.

First is the popups when you mouseover on the armor no longer show the armor levels. That makes it very hard to scan a list and choose what to look at.

Secondly, I have had good luck with most armor and weapons (99% accuracy anyway) but the SHIELDs are horrid. I did an advanced search on heavy shields with item level 45 and above and only had to randomly pull up about 8 shields to find a few examples that are obviously wrong. Some of the 577 armor ratings could be wrong and I would have no idea.

    Many report 1 armor:
    http://lorebook.lotro.com/index.php/...s_Heavy_Shield
    http://lorebook.lotro.com/index.php/...s_Heavy_Shield
    http://lorebook.lotro.com/index.php/...s_Heavy_Shield

165 armor on level 45+ Heavy Shields?
    http://lorebook.lotro.com/index.php/...onehelm_Shield
    http://lorebook.lotro.com/index.php/...l_of_Annuminas

Many report 577 that have nowhere near that (like the level 30 guardian quest reward shield - it has 385 if I recall correctly)

Well... the next Lorebook update will feature a first cut at allowing an advanced search based on bonuses/effects. I'll be keeping a close eye on everyone's feedback once it is rolled out.

I must say, Duwis, you've certainly made a lot of promises for the Lorebook. I have no doubts that you'll be able to deliver, but, like everyone else, I'm always wondering when the next great thing will come out (book 13 come's out tomorrow, how soon until book 14?). Do you have any idea as to when we can expect the next Lorebook update? I look forward to (nerd alert) updating my Excel Spreadsheet with all my build options.

I miss Jewelry being sortable by item slot. I'm not sure where it went, but it's much more convenient than the current 'lump them all alphabetically' format. If we could get Jewelry broken up by item slot so we can sort by level and such I'd be thrilled.

Anything else shiny is a welcome bonus.

If I understand your request correctly, that ability is already present by filtering on "Equipment Slot". If you want just earring jewellry, you can check "Earring" in the "Equipment Slot" box, submit your search, and then sort the earrings by level.

If that isn't what you are looking for, can you provide more details on how you would want it to work.

My only problem with the Lorebook is that it isnt as up-to-date as I would like. I realize it takes some time to add the newest patches but it seems that by the time that data is added, I have figured everthing out by myself.

For instance; I have been looking for information on the new Hobby: Fishing. When I enter FISHING in the search - I get 7 hits. All of these are references to fishing in quests. Nothing about the fishing hobby. When I enter the word 'hobby' and get similar results.

That would be awesome, but I don't know if it's possible considering one's a wiki and the other is a vBulletin board. Sounds like some complicated code translation / integration to me :-/

I don't have any suggestions currently, but I wanted to say that the lorebook has been a great resource to me the past few months, especially with crafting. I used to always check non-Turbine sites for crafting info, but now the lorebook has taken top spot. Thanks for the effort that has been put into improving the lorebook. It's much appreciated.
