Feature Article Feedback: Hero's Guide to the Trollshaws

Nestled between the Lone-lands to the west, the Misty Mountains to the east, the Ettenmoors to the north, and Eregion to the south, the Trollshaws have been largely uninhabited by the civilized races and are dotted with ruined fortifications that serve as lairs to some of Middle-earth's most savage beasts.

Quest Hub here would be helpful. Slayer deeds and a few salt and peppered quests here and there are hardly an excuse to even visit this place on your way to 60... The region is rich with enough lore that we could have a nice alternative to level up between 30-45...

"Remember when travelling through the Trollshaws that the Ford of Bruinen is the only passage from west to east through this region."

    That's... not entirely true.

The designers came up with good rationales for the FI and OG hubs in Lone-Lands, but the camp-style hubs in the Trollshaws convey the sense that you are even farther from home. Combining everything into a single quest hub would ruin the wilderness feel of this zone. Counting Rivendell there are 4 places where you can get multiple quest lines, and this multiple mini-hub approach is seen in many other zones.

With an eastern border of the River Hoarwell, spanned by the Last Bridge, intersected by the River Bruinen, and closed off by the western impasse of the Misty Mountains . . .
    Not exactly.

Also, it would have been nice to read the article in order of increasing quest difficulty, i.e. Barachen's Camp, Thorenhad, Nan Tornaeth, etc. Instead it jumped around a bit.

Besides that stuff, I enjoyed the article. The Trollshaws were when I felt the game really began to shine.

Best part Tal Bruinen, I like the story that unfolds there .

Worst part the North Trollshaws spider area. I did the area once, never again.

Right now I am of level to start entering the Trollshaws and I love the area. The autumn look, the peaceful music, it is pretty, and of course it has dwarf iron nodes.

My first experience was running my level 20 alt through from OG in the LL to Rivendell in order to advance that alt as a scholar. That track up from the ford was quite scary as a level 20, but a click of the milestone meant I don't need to run it again at that level.

My second experience was entering Giant Valley in need of the giant boar flank. (I did this at 29) and seeing purple mobs. Got the flank though.

After these visits I have only just started on a few of the quests at the last bridge, have gotten my boar dagger (this quest is way to easy BTW), and done a bit of exploring populating most of the map. I think this region will be a nice break from fighting orc in DD.

Well I hope so, those dark areas get to me sometimes, killing in sunshine is far more fun.

2 Toons to 60 and I don't think I can stomach another level up. Left to play WoW

Completely agreed. I tend to do every single quest in the Trollshaws with all my alts for those reasons (minus the ore). IMHO, it has hands-down the best music in the entire game, though the music of Falathlorn, Lothlórien, and at night in the Shire are pretty close. And the looks of the area are absolutely stunning.

I always wondered why I liked farming at night so much more than in the day.
