Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Mounts 2.0

Haven't read all 7 pages but is this a gateway to the begining development for mounted combat because that is what it seems to me like.

I for one am happy about the change and look forward to it in december.

While you are mounted you will see a separate vitals bar for your horse. You will see how much morale it has. As you get hit, you will see the bar go down. As you don't get hit, you will see the morale regenerate.

A more sturdy horse will have more hit points.

The speed situation should be unchanged from what you get with Mounts 1.0 right now.

PLEASE make sure the R9 horse has the most hit points.....since it is definitely the rarest horse in the game.

    QFT!!
I love my horse, and it took a long time to get! I'd hate to have to drop it because some randon vendor horse that anyone can get has better stats.

I'd just like to drop by and say a quick thank you for this revised horse implementation!

Not being able to talk to people while on a horse was a bit cumbersome, although I would understand it if the NPC felt a sting of insult when addressed by people that don't even bother getting down of their horse to talk to them...

But the most enjoyable change I see in this whole Mounts 2.0 system, is the ability to use emotes while riding! It may seem a small irrelevant detail, but it is the kind of details that make me realize why I like LoTRo... I can't stop trying to picture an army of riders saluting their Lord about to lead them to battle!

Great fun and keep up the good work!

Just because few people want to grind for it doesn't make it rare. It shouldn't be any better than the other rep horses more people are willing to grind for.

QFT. Not rare because it's hard to get. It's rare because few people will PVMP grind.

"Hardest to get" would probably still be the Volume 1 horse. Completing the entire Volume 1 is a pretty significant task.

    Completely untrue.

It is a fact it's more rare. You can't argue that. There are less in the game than any other horse, therefore more rare.

But more importantly, I don't care what people "want" to grind...the fact is the R9 grind is FAR more time consuming than grinding faction (or just buying the items to turn in) OR the book quests. That's like saying I don't "want" to grind Lothlorien rep but I want to be able to craft the Lothlorien craftables, or equivalent gear. You can't. Why? Because you didn't choose to do what was necessary to get it.

I absolutely guarentee you. And if you'd like to prove otherwise feel free to come out and hit R9 in a month. Which would PLENTY of time to get the books done.

I have access to every rep horse and book horse in the game. I EARNED my R9 horse. I would be absolutely sick if I had to junk it because it wasn't as good as one of those others. And anyone who thinks grinding reputation is anywhere NEAR as tough as getting R9 needs their head examined.

    Editing to add:

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Mounts 2.0

Something tells me that the R9 mount will not be the toughest mount with the release, due to the fact that to get it you *have* to PvMP. I believe Turbine has stated in the past you are not supposed to have to do PvMP to get the *top* gear/items/etc in the game as it was initially created as a sidegame, if you will, to gain destiny points. I understand that it is not the easiest mount to get, but if anything it should be the same level as the rep mounts, since it is technically a rep mount. If they were to have the best armour set for each class to have a requirement of R9, there would be an uproar. Also, regardless of what they do with it, why would you have to junk it? It is not like it would be taking up any more space...

    Thanks for your clear answers.

If all DEVs would take the time to answer the player's questions like you do, things would be alot clearer !!!

I'm guessing the only difference will be the color.

Wait, stop the presses: does this mean that we'll be able to SEE the different morale totals for different mounts when we use them?!? That would be a fantastic change.

Will the eagle mount be usable in housing areas? I live in the valley at the base of the waterfall in Falathlorn homesteads, and I hate having to go all the way around that hill to get out. Flying will be much faster.

The eagle mount will only be available when there are less than 50 people logged into the area that you're in -- 5 if it's an instanced area.
As a level 1 burglar, Bilbo got a pony when he joined the Smaug The Dragon raid. Then he asked for leadership, looted the chest, assigned himself the 1st age Arkenstone and mailed it to an alt (Bilbo's a VIP so can mail from anywhere). They did some PvMP and an Epic Battle, then he apologized and gave the Arkenstone back because it wasn't BoA. He kept the pony.

To be honest i bought the AP becuase of the goat and storage and im happy now that i don't have to earn all that rep and pay 5g for a goat since the one they include goes into moria. Is 20 bucks high yes but it saves time and energy.

It's been a couple days since I read the Dev Diary, so maybe I've forgotten but...

Aside from being able to name our mounts, are there any plans to add further utility and customization to owning a mount.

I'm thinking along the lines of saddle bags, for a little extra storage space on the road.

Barding - which many people have already mentioned.

Mount xp/loyalty - Having the ability to increase your mounts toughness through riding.

I know that gear grinding and acquiring new **** is a huge part of end-game content, but personally I would rather have one faithful mount that grows with me than a stable full of mounts that don't get used because I've upgraded to a newer model.

Personally, I would not mind if the PvMP Rank 9 mount was a little tougher than the Vol 1 mount. While I don't PvMP, it might encourage a few people who are on the boarder about it and it can be a fun part of the game. I have done alittle just before MOM came out.

I am also waiting for the LEGENDARY MOUNT. One that will grow with you. I think that would be great.

One matter I have not seen a blue-name answer on (though I may have just missed it) is the dismounting.

More specifically, with the current mount method, I can either click the riding bar to dismount, and then have to confirm with yet another click that I, in fact, DO want to dismount.

Or, I can just click the horse icon I dragged into my toolbar and dismount with one click and no confirmation required.

So, with all the mounts on a drop-down, is dismounting going to be ONLY a two-click operation?

It will be the same as in the current system - you can right-click dismount, or single-click (or keyboard shortcut) dismount. You can also dismount by opening up the new Mounts panel (which you can assign a keyboard shortcut to) and right or double-clicking the currently active mount.
