Look at the map http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Special:Interactivemap
Keeping in mind that about the southern-most third of Eregion shown on the map is not currently accessible, Mirkwood looks a bit larger than Eregion. In fact, given that a significant part of the Moria map is walls and partitions I'd say that the playable area of Mirkwood is very close to that of Moria. The fact that it's so much easier to get around Mirkwood (via swift travels, direct and relatively safe roads, and the basic lack of confusing windy passages) make it seem a lot smaller. It was much faster to quest through because the quests were very localized and didn't require you to much through miles of mob-filled passages just to get to the quest location.
This idea that Mirkwood was an insignificant update is much more about perception than facts.

Think about the Lone Lands
You can swift travel to Ost and... well thats about it. Everyplace you are going to walk or take a slow mount
Think About the North Downs
You Can swift travel to Esteldin and... well thats about it.
Zone seems a lot larger when you have to walk or take slow mounts. If you could swift travel to 6 locations on either of those maps (Lone Lands/North Downs) they would seem much smaller.

Just to comment on the original post, my most hated quest had to be Freeing Dori. It wasn't the quest that got me, but the fact that everytime I attempted it there was absolutely no one around to assist and no matter how high you level you cannot do that quest alone. Arrrghh! It is frustrating thinking about even now.
Chapter 15 has to be right up there - Delossad/Rivendell/Delossad/Rivendell - ARGH - and then the one where you are told to go meet Glorfindel in Delossad, you do, and then he ports you back to Rivendell and then tells you to go *BACK* to Delossad....oh I was peeved. I didn't care if he was an Elf-lord, I was going to strangle him!
When my Guardian other half did this one I logged in one of my chars, plopped her down at Delossad, then I read a book while he ran around. Every so often I'd blow the acorn whistle to summon him back to Delossad. Much less frustrating.
That idiot in the LL is one of them, too - and now random goblin drops his necklace, too, which just sits there in your inventory until you rescue him. Never fails, first goblin my guys kill in zone (usually before they're high enough level to go rescue him) drops that thing.
The Evendim epics are up there too. Go to Gath Forthnir to get a BAG, come back. Run through the Warden keep, go talk to some warden (why does he hate carrot cake so much, anyway? You know, when you go to his funeral later I eat carrot cake at that funeral every. single. time. I've taken three toons through that now, and I must, must eat carrot cake at his funeral.) Run through the keep some more. Go to Annuminas to pick up rocks. Bleah.

Well I am going to go way back old school and say this one:
Snapper Soup
I took this quest once and never again on any of my alts.

That one isn't actually as bad as it used to be, since there is the bounty quest for turtle shells that you can do at the same time. Drop rate isn't any better, though, the three toons I've taken through it since the bounties were implemented can usually do the bounty twice in the time it takes them to do the snapper soup quest :/

Snapper soup was horrible. Not only that, it happens well before you get a horse, and dangit you have a walk a LONG WAY for those useless quests over there.. ugh.
Still not as bad as the orignal board quest near Ost Garuth in LL, though.. nothing can compare with that hell, especially when the zone was crowded..

Lordy.
Look, it's a good point, and it's fun the first time, but how about a deed when you have one character hit 65 that you can apply a clicky to ALL characters on the account - fast travel on all routes.
And for those that DON'T Lilke this idea - bank or trash the clicky.
I'm just saying. Equine Nitrous FTW.

It's not difficult IF you have the right combo of players. However, I have died more trying to get that quest done on my Loremaster than ANY other quest in Mirkwood. Now I may just have bad luck, but after my 10th failure, I've got NO interest to try it again for the measly 4 feathers it gives as a reward.

Tie between "Frodo's Burden" and the warg paw quest in the LL. *shudder*
Frodo's Burden is another one of those quests I try to defend a lot.
Would we do it differently this time around, if given the chance? Probably. But it's one of those quests that really needed to be in the game. You needed to interact with Frodo, and having him task you with typical MMO gameplay would have been laughable. ('A slab or two of boar meat would be just the thing to fortify me for the coming journey, friend!')
Originally the animation speed for NPC hobbits was quite a bit faster than it turned out being, and the pace of Frodo's Burden was therefore much, much slower than it was designed to be. You learn and you learn. You may not like it to play, but it's important that it be there.
MoL
The first time I did it back in late alpha, I enjoyed this quest. The monologue was paced a bit too slow IMO, but that was OK -- I was strolling through Rivendell with Frodo, and he was confiding in me!
Of course, I've now done it like 2 dozen times (most before launch), and it's long since lost any appeal -- mostly because it's such a passive experience, and isn't nearly as compelling to watch as the vignettes, for example. I've long since resorted to /follow and Alt-Tabbing away for several minutes while it completes... I basically never just watch the game anymore when I don't have an active role to play. All of my stable rides are done while surfing the web.
Khafar
Heh...I understand your defense of the quest and its necessity in telling the overall story. As you alluded, it just seems to drag on a bit too long. It's cool though. When I do it on alts, I just put Frodo on follow and go grab a beer.I think he, being a hobbit, would approve of such an action.
How has noone mentioned thief taker's bane version 1???
that had to be one of the most dreaded quests in the game 'til it got nerfed. I remember when a group of 5 level 50s on Brandywine were charging some huge sum of money to run 1 person at a time through that and they had a line of people waiting all day to get in on it.
