Uploading pictures not working

I know it was posted about a month or more ago by someone else, but I still can't upload pictures to my.lotro.com. It will act like it's uploading the screenshots, but no matter where I go to view the images, it doesn't have a thumbnail and the images can't be opened. The file size shows and I can add descriptions, etc... I just can't view them. It's as if it's storing only the information about the picture, but not the picture itself. Any help would be appreciated.

If you're trying to add photos into a post, see Romoen's guide for how to insert photos into your post.

There is a general bug with uploading photos directly into posts. I haven't been able to do it for quite some time now, and others have the same issue. For now, we are using external photo storage sites like photobucket to insert photos into our posts. Romoen's guide (linked above) goes into detail about how to do that.

To Tanir101, I'm not sure if you need to use an external photo storage site to insert photos into your gallery as well, but you should give it a try. I've never used my gallery feature, so I don't have any personally tested advice to give.

Hope this helps a bit, I know the photo upload system on My.Lotro is very frustrating.

I don't believe we'll be able to locate the two files you already have attempted to upload, but you should be all set now for future uploads. I would suggest deleting the two images you already have in your gallery and re-upload them.

Thanks. I'll try when I get home tonight and let you know. I had a feeling you wouldn't be able to recover the images already uploaded since I don't think think they really uploaded in the first place. But it's easy enough to re-upload them if it's working now.

Yes, and these appear to have achieved success. I've seen the changes work here, so you should be all set. Again, let us know here or in PM if you still have issues.

Success? Are you looking at the right profile? This morning, they were still showing as a placeholder with no image and wouldn't load when clicked. I just tried now and the images have been deleted????

I believe he meant that he tried something new and it seems to have worked, so try again. Your question was "any other ideas?" and the response was "yes"

As previously mentioned, we cannot recover your original images, and the solution has necessitated removing any lingering references to files not actually present.

Going forward, any new images you upload to the gallery should work.

The image must be 150 x 150 pixles or larger and can only be a .gif, .jpg or .png.

But if you try to upload something that doesn't meet those requirements you should be given an error. I'd suggest submitting a bug report on it because that sounds unique.

It lets me browse to the picture but it doesn't ever fill in the location box no matter where I put the picture on my computer. I tried it with both Firefox and IE and it doesn't work either place. I'm still not getting any errors at all. The image is a jpg and is 150x150 and 31KB. Is this still too big? This is why I only use My LOTRO for entering the lotteries because something as simple as uploading a picture is problematic.

Duwis could you please make this my avatar for My LOTRO since I am unable although I have no problems uploading anything anywhere else on the internet.

@Elfheart: If it's not filling in the location box, you could just manually type it in and see if that works until someone figures out why it's not filling that in. If you're unsure what to put there, open your Computer so you can browse your files. Go to the location you have the image saved, then click once on the "address" bar. It will then give you something like c:\users\elfheart\pictures\ or whatever. Type that in (or copy/paste) and then include the picture's filename - so you might end up with something like: c:\users\elfheart\pictures\ava tar.jpg

@Turbine: Seems to be a bug in the forum or something... I typed avatar without a space in the filename and even edited it and saved it and it keeps inserting a space. Design? Bug?

I had no issues using the my.lotro.com interface for uploading your avatar. Can you try to upload a different image and provide here the exact steps you are taking to do this and what happens along the way.

e.g.,

1. Click 'Browse' button.
2. OS dialog box comes up for choosing file.
3. Choose file.
4. Click 'Upload Photo' button; nothing happens.


Also include what versions of the browsers you try along with any information about plug-ins, toolbars, etc. that you might be running in them.

I seem to recall when I first tried to upload an image, when it was exactly 150x150 it wouldn't go through. Maybe try something 151x151 or larger?

When I go back to my site, I see blank thumbnails for each screenshot and when I click on the blank thumbnails, I get a process bar that doesn't stop. Any help would be great.

There's something wonky with the default "My Gallery" gallery created for each blog. You should be able to create a new gallery and upload pics into it without issue.
