Hey

Been wanting to give something back to the community for a while and I finally got off my behind.

Its basically gear from the lorebook but in a more spreadsheety way that's (hopefully) easier to compare/sort/etc..

I, like a few others it would appear, am interested on how you came up with the Rating values.

The easy answer I found, is that you assign a rating value to each stat and the shown rating value is the sum of all the ratings from the stats.

Add another vote for a site name-change. If you try to paste this into game chat to share with kinmates or share an item link, the filter will wipe out the *entire* link.

Hmm - so looks like the name may have been a little ill-advised. It just occurred to me that the 'problem word' may be a little more profane in the US than over here in the UK ( or maybe I just don't have any class or tact... ). If I've offended anyone though Im sorry and didn't intend too.

Im thinking maybe LotroGearGal.

So far as the rating goes, yeh its pretty basic. Its just a bunch of factors multiplied by the items stats. I plan to refine it a bit but its not ever going to be more than a very vague pointer to what might be good for you - after all, everyones needs are different eh. I cant take credit for the Rating idea either. There was an awesome spreadsheet a long time ago on the champ forums I think it was (by a Hakon or Hackon maybe?) that I took inspiration from.

Nice work! Already bookmarked and shared with a few folks. But along with the title switch, may I also suggest a change in the banner icon? Just makes it look more like a WoW kind of site to me, doesn't feel right for Lotro. It's not a big issue, but I definitely know a few people who would be turned off by it.

That being said, I love where this site is headed. I'll continue to look around and see if I find any bugs or missing links that I can send your way. Thanks for bringing the community a nice new tool.

I took a look... warden wall-warden chestpiece is mysteriously missing. Also, diamond stud is a little too high up in rating for wardens... i think ICMR is getting too much credit! Other than that, it looks really useful! Keep up the good work!

Great resource, and thank you very much for sharing. Quick question:

Other than Total Morale and Total Power, can you confrim that you do not intermix any other stats, ie you do not add the Agility modifier to an Evade rating, or the Fate modifier to an ICMR rating etc.? I actually think it is better to not do this, I just want to confirm that it is the case.

Would it be possible to get a secondary sort? Right now, can sort by Type or Level but not both - so it shows light helms for level 63 in there with heavy. (ewww light armour ewwww)

Some other updates;

- Missing items : Ive fixed some problems that were causing a bunch of items (like the wardens wall-warden gear) to be missed out. There are still some items that aren't coming back from the lotro data service though (e.g. the hunter and champ watcher sets) so they'll be missing until that's sorted.

- Stats : to the question about stats, Im only calculating values for Total Morale, Total Power & Rating. Everything else (e.g. evade ratings) is direct from the lorebook. You can confirm that by looking at the lorebook popup thats shown when you hover an items icon, all the values should match up.

- Rating : I've seen some concern that the rating is the start of some kind of 'Gear Score' but that's the last thing Id want to do. I'll keep an eye on things though and see what other feedback I get. I may add a feature to allow people to customize the rating to their liking (or I may remove the rating all together...), not sure yet.

@Lurkerinthemist Im looking at multi column sort atm. In the meantime, you could type "heavy" into the search box and that will get rid of your yucky light armour problem (assuming you're not already filtering on something else...)

- Multi column sort. To sort by multiple columns at the same time hold down shift when clicking column headers.

- Level range filtering. Only want to see items in the level range 45 to 50? Just drag the level range slider above the table until you're happy.

Also, a couple of other things:
First: do you plan on adding lvls 1 - 39? I ask because that would be extremely helpful for determining what is the best gear for a given level.
Second: Could you add in an explanation of how the ratings are calculated? (I would love the ability to set up our own rating system if we're looking for different stats, but that may be too difficult)

I'm on the case with the missing items/armour sets . It seems there's a bug in the lorebooks data api causing me not to get those items. According to http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=351616 a fix is coming but we'll have to wait until at least v3bk2 to get it.

Regarding level 1-39 items, I didn't put them in initially as I thought most players would be interested in end game gear. If its something lots of people want though i'll stick em in.

The ratings are calculated fairly simply. I basically multiply each items stats by a bunch of factors (that change depending on the current class) and then add them all up. The calculation is actually done on the fly in page so potentially I could add a feature to let people customise the ratings to their personal tastes. It also means someone cunning enough could hack the page (e.g. with a firefox greasemonkey script) to change the factors (and hence the ratings) for themself.
