yah, I'm aware of that, thanks to all of you who pointed it out. I'm sure there are others who didn't know. Fortunately it's moot now that the buttons are going in, but a couple things I'll mention. One is that it's not always convenient for me to use the keyboard. Sometimes when I'm playing around in the vault, and doing things other than fighting (or chatting), my keyboard is pushed under the monitor, I'm using only the mouse. But more, new players don't necessarily know all the keyboard shortcuts, so while shortcuts are a great thing to have, their presence doesn't negate the need for things to be easy to access using the mouse. Just wanted to clear that up ...

I grumbled and growled a lot doing some initial sorting in the new system. Having worked with it, and having seen the improvements promised, I'm actually starting to like it quite a lot.
I'm far more verbal than visual so i LOVE having the names of things available without having to mouse over and wait for pop ups. All those recipes with identical icons? Now I can tell at a glance if the new one is a duplicate or not. All those stacks of wood and leather with almost identical icons? Now i don't have to remember if pristine leather is darker than exceptional.
I'll be very glad to have the ability to name rather than number my internal bags. Once that's done, I really don't need to be able to see 120 items all at once on my screen. Apparently that works for highly visual people, it wouldn't for me.
In fact, the old system worked very poorly for someone like me. I was forever discovering that I had more than one stack of something because the icons were very similar or because I just hadn't seen the original stack in all the clutter of having so many items in little bitty bags all visible at once.
I also used to hate the fact that the purchasable bags were all limited in size. There were always a few items that overflowed from the "rep items bag" or the "spare armour bag" and tended to get lost.
So thank you Rantost for listening and trying to give everyone what they need. Just remember, not everyone is out here on the forums hating the new system. And not all of us who are out here hate it.
Please, at least give a choice between the new and the old system, cause this new vault sux

Ransroth, I'm not sure you've ever touched on the one thing that still bugs me. I keep partial stacks of consumables in my vault (like pots, bow oils, chants, extra food etc) when I have too many in my bags. Every once in awhile, I go back to my vault to refill the stacks in my bag. With the old system, I could drag a partial stack from the vault onto the partial stack in my bag and the one in my bag would fill up, but the other stack would remain in my vault. With the new system, if I pull a stack from the vault, it fills my stack in my bag, but then the vault stack stays in my bag, so I have to drag it back. More steps make me QQ. Is there any way around this or something I just have to get used to?

The back ends of the systems are completely different and the old one was done away with because of the server problems it was causing. We're not getting the old vault back. Period. If what he was asking was for the functionality of the old vault restored, then again, he should have read the rest of the thread and seen all of the upgrades that are going in. But what he asked for was a choice between the old and new vault, and we're not ever going to get that. Also, "the new vault sux" doesn't help his case at all. Posts like that just litter this thread. It would be nice if we could actually remain constructive and mature throughout a thread, for once.

You mean just like it was "impossible" for them to get more vault space than was allotted in the old vault system till suddenly they realized they could charge $10 per character for more vault space right?
They went to this not as a service for the people, but as a blatant cash grab. $10? for 15 bank slots, seriously? explain to me how that's more economic than buying a new character slot for $5 and getting 45 bank slots for another 45 silver for a mule?

The new vault system has nothing to do with their ability to offer more slots... Those of us who get 500 points a month and don't want to swap around toons might find our FREE additional slots on the character we play most is more efficient. Thats the awesome thing about choices.
Disclaimer: Before I'm flamed, I'm not asking for the old vault back. I like the new vault better than the old vault overall (although I admit that assessment is based on the upcoming improvements). I've given constructive suggestions in this thread and even though I know I won't get everything I'd like, I'm quite confident that ransroth is doing a great job with the new vault. With that said, I wanted to clarify something.
I seriously doubt "the old one was done away with." It's just a database. Sure, the new database is likely different than the old one in design, but a database is a database. The new one may even use the same database software. Who knows? (Well, Turbine does.)
However, I wanted to point out that the "back end" must still exist. If it did NOT exist, then players couldn't convert their old vault to the new vault. I'm sure the hardware it's sitting on isn't as robust as it once was (or it won't be for long) since it (the old one) is not getting the pounding it used to. I imagine that at some future point, when a good amount of characters have had their vaults converted by players, Turbine will convert the remaining (dormant) characters during some future "scheduled maintenance." At that point the old back end will be done away with.
Furthermore, some of the old code must still exist. (I seem to recall ransroth or some other dev mentioned some of the code still exists, but I can't locate it right this moment.) What part? The part that reads the old database of course. It has to exist, along with the old database, or else conversions simply couldn't happen.
No, we're not going to get the old vault back, but to be fair I'm sure it's entirely possibly to simulate the old vault programmatically. However, that's not likely going to happen because that would require maintaining additional code with all the associated development, quality, (etc.) costs involved. (Doubling costs is never a good thing.) It may also eliminate many of the improvements of the new vault.
So, impossible? I doubt it is technically. It likely is only from a program management point of view. In my opinion it is unrealistic to request it.
I'm sure when (I'm being optimistic here) ransroth gets manual sorting in, it'll be close enough to the old vault that the visual folks will be pleased. I sure would like it myself, especially for my armour and cosmetic "sets".

I tend to agree. I think making the additional storage available for in-game gold would go a long way toward alleviating this view. However, since that isn't the case - the perception persists.
Back on topic - please restore the vault functionality we lost when we went to F2P and nothing changed.
Perhaps your perception is based on insufficient information? They removed the level-limit to purchasing Vault space with in-game gold. So unless all of your slots were capped characters who had already purchased the max storage, then you've been granted to opportunity to get more storage for in-game gold.

So Ransroth, I noticed that there Volume III, Patch 1 up on Bullroarer and didn't see anything about the new vault changes on there. Are these vault changes scheduled to go in with a later version of the patch or do we have to wait until the next book? Would really like a chance to try these out and see if they do indeed lessen the need for manual sort. Hoping that these changes are coming with this first patch. Thanks.

Thank you for your response. Respectfully, I think you're attempting to make a distinction that, I contend, does not necessarily exist. Buying storage for character B =/= having additional storage for character A. To a degree, yes - as I, like many, have 3 storage alts I do not play but use only for storage. However, it does not extend to the point of excluding the need for additional storage on a players mains. Just think about the steady stream of BoA festival stuff, skirmish marks, tokens, etc.
I have 6 characters I play "regularly". As of about a year ago, all of them have unlocked all their available vault storage. (I thought everyone did this - apparently not) 5 of those are max level and could make good use of some additional vault space.
With the re-launch additional space has been made available to those 5! Can I unlock it with in-game gold?
Yes, I'm glad they removed the level limit on all vault space. But that has nothing to do with making the additional 30 slots available exclusively for turbine points and not in-game gold - which leads to the perception originally elucidated several posts ago - which I tend to agree with.
However, if we intend to discuss turbine's motivations and F2P philosophy perhaps it would be better to start a different thread. This thread has served (continues to serve) as an important conduit between turbine and its fans. A lot of valuable communication has taken place here. Some excellent suggestions have been made and Ransroth has racked up more posts in this thread alone than some devs make in a lifetime!
I've seen too many threads closed because the conversation moved too far off topic - so I'll refrain from making any further comments that do not pertain directly to the vault or the operation thereof. I, like others, would like to keep this thread on track and wish to derail it no further. So...
I still like the Lua option. On the surface it seems like it would be easier to let the Lua fans work out an alternative interface for the vault but I don't know what's involved with exposing the vault to the api - though I understand it's challenging. None the less, I'm all for manual sorting - how ever it can be accomplished.
Having almost nothing to do with the context of this thread, except that it has the word "vault" in it.
While you're making changes, can you get someone to add one or two more NPCs in the vault in the 21st hall? Please?

Oh ugh. So I'll be lucky to be able to have an almost usable bank vault by Christmas? And the manual updates and the HOPEFULLY being able to detach chests so that they can be viewed alongside each other, won't be around until next year sometime then. That's terrible news as the vault is barely usable in its present form for me and many others.
