Three cheers for the Turbine staff!

This will probably get locked but I have to give a shout out to the Turbine staffers for fixing the lag issue! They put up with complaints on multiple threads and what I'm sure were MANY hours of actual troubleshooting. Also a huge thanks to the community members who helped track down whatever the issue was.

This game is ENJOYABLE AGAIN! TY TY TY ALL!

Don't you mean Three 'Jeers' ?? They tried to blame everything but the servers for the lag for weeks...

    >And you know you just jinxed us... Lagg should never be mentioned when it is not present

Agreed, I was impressed with both the patience and expertise of the community, and the company, sharing resources to pinpoint the problem.

I've never seen lag/hitching until this past week, and was delighted it was gone tonight.

    Well done all!

I am very happy if this is fixed.

Unless I am missing something, however, the "official thread" says nothing about this being fixed. Don't we need either a lot of players to post that suddenly they don't have the lag anymore? How do you guys know it is fixed? Or is there a blue post somewhere saying this is fixed?

Not doubting that it is fixed, though. Congratulations to the Turbine team.

We've made a few adjustments throughout the day. Would those of you who have been so kind as to post your test results here run your tests again and report your findings?
And offered the community to test it. I am still awed at the dedication of the staff and members of this game.

I made note, and will strive to help should such need ever rise again.

Apologies for my many perhaps cryptyc notes on the point.

I nearly caved to back to EQ. No more, as I will stand by Turbine and LOTRO until the end of my days.

So did the servers have they eye or what? Was it something you did Gin? From the lotro staff, "All fixed, it was something Gini did."

    That's my favorite!

The community is as much to thank as any of us. When you guys give us facts and data we have a much higher likelihood of being able to track down and correct the issues. I know frustration often leads to "Fix it, Turbine!" and "Get new servers", but neither of those are helpful. In this case in particular, getting brand new servers would have meant spending a vast sum of money for absolutely 0 result (Side note, the servers are new. We upgraded hardware prior to the F2P release). The issue was not hardware related.

I am certainly glad the issue is resolved.

Yet I am wary of cheering Turbine for the fix, as the duration of the problem was excessive.

Did it make the game unplayable? No.
    Was it an outage? No.
I imagine they didn't treat this as a top priorty.

So if it wasn't service affecting, did it affect playing and cause frustration? To most it appears it did.. is that not just cause to fix it quickly?

If google search results lagged as much, you'd hit enter and nothing would show up 1/6 of the time..
If your browser would just lag out randomly loading pages..
If your cell network wouldn't send messages the first attempt and you'd have to hit resend often..
If your cable co "glitched" during the office every few minutes, and you miss what is being said...
If your hacked wii didn't play the new mario..

Would they take 3 months to fix it?

In all these, I have seen weeks to a month for a fix.. even for the "free" products like firefox/homebrew.

I really believe the "umph" to make this game great is dwindling. You can see in the dev diaries some of the passion for the game, but then the lack of communication on the boards, the list of issues that just seem to drag on.. doesn't coincide with it.

The cs reps like sap, celes or patience before really can't do anything about these issues, I feel bad they are stuck dealing with the feedback, try to remember that, they aren't to blame.

I am looking forward to playing this weekend and not. having. to. pause. every. so. often. Thank you for getting things fixed up.

It would be great if all computer problems could easily be reproduced, tracked down and solved. Indeed a lot of problems are easily identified and fixed. But when you have millions of lines of code, and an obscure problem crops up, it is not a matter of just putting in a fixed amount of time to solve the issue -- first you have to find the cause of the problem, and when you have an extremely complex hardware and software product like LotRO, finding the cause of the problem can be excruciatingly difficult. The amount of time it can take to find the cause of a problem like this has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the desire to fix it -- no matter how much you want to fix the problem, it still requires you to find the cause and that can take days, weeks, or even months. Such is the nature of software development.

Thank you and well done. I played this morning and was able to enjoy my Warden again. When I died today, it was totally my fault.

First off, let me say that I sincerely appreciate the fact that the lag was fixed. It was making the game un-fun.

I wouldn't discount the "Fix it, Turbine!" posts so quickly. You can get a pretty good gauge as to how frustrated your customer base is when you see a sharp increase in the number of posts. The more and more of those threads you see, the more of a problem you know you have. When customers get frustrated quietly, you end up being surprised.

Again, just a friendly reminder, from one of your customers.

    They don't.

But with no information of times, dates, servers, in game location, ping/traceroute results etc, they're useless as a means to try to find and correct the problem. You're not talking about "Hey Windfola is lagging, go check that machine..." - you're talking about a farm of probably dozens of servers and all the associated network hardware and cabling, as well as database servers, login servers, etc.
