The way I understand it is that everyone gets acces to the actual areas, but the content itself (quests etc) are only for those that bought the Expansion.
Free players and Premium players can, I think, also complete the epic storyline through Isengard but I'm not sure about this.

Landscape access is open to all. Content has to be bought by all. One of the three content elements - the five new instances is not live yet - can not be bought yet - it comes in December time frame with Update 5.

    We have

    1) Buy the Landscape content today
    2) Buy the Dragon raid today
    3) Coming in Update 5 - five instances

That is where the 2 of 3 comes from.

The Epic line is open to all. I am not sure how much of the crafting and other stuff you are given.
Unless stated otherwise, all content in this post is My Personal Opinion.

You get everything. I am a lifer and I have ridden the whole map. Done the book up to chapter 15 or 16 and have maxed out rep with crafting guild, and have maxed out crafting in everything but weaponsmithing, farming and cooking. But these days you only need to do one tier to be able to craft crits so I am there at least in everything. I also have acquaintance status with Dunland, I know everyone doing quests has kindred with both, but because of that I can get all the crafted stuff from them for mats for my crafting, I just cant make the stuff myself.

So basically you get everything for free. Except the ability to do the new quests, and enter the dragon raid instance.

Shortly after we launched Free to Play last year we made a commitment to allow players to access new areas and participate in the Epic story line for free. Isengard continues that commitment. You can access the landscape, and participate in the Epic story for free. However to gain access to the more than 300 quests in the expansion, the new raid and the upcoming instances you'll need to either purchase these things a la carte in the LOTRO Store, or purchase the full expansion via the web store.

Youre like a timeshare salesmen. Or they can wait for the price to drop, again assuming it will like I think you alluded to during the meltdown thread.

To 'fix' your statement simply add the word NOW to it. "To gain access NOW to the...." And at the end you could have added "Or you can wait and buy them in a bundle, at a reduced amount, when we are technically able to offer that option once everything is in the game".

Basically it is about imminence. When do you want something? You want it now you have two options, if you can wait you have several, even more than the 3 I proffered.

He doesn't need to say "now". His statement was exactly factually correct.

We don't know that there will be bundles in the future. It's a good guess, based on past experience, but a guess is all it is. They may decide to stop doing bundles. If Sapience promised bundles and then Turbine decided content bundles were a bad business decision in general or for RoI in particular, that would make him a liar. I suspect Sapience doesn't like lying to us, and he also knows that if he promises or even vaguely suggests in a way that could be misinterpreted as a promise that something is going to happen that doesn't happen, somebody's going to call him out on it with a direct quote.

Fact: If you want to play the non-free parts of RoI, you have to buy them from the in-game store or the web store.

Speculation: Anything that's not exactly what Sapience just told us.

Nah I think he was very careful to steer away from speculation, deliberately. For one thing people take everything that Turbine employees say and dissect, deconstruct, re-quote out of context, and belabor the finest gradations of meaning in their use of synonyms. (Ok I don't really have "another thing" :P)

Thx for answering the original question btw, I'd been wondering that as well (how much TP the expansion costs)!

    Re: isengard free areas

except he already said it would be a bundle when it was possible. So we will now get back into this blue name said that, then people will look for where they said it and they will find it or they will find it has been redacted, edited or outright deleted.

But I know for a fact it was stated by Sapience in the thread that gave out the prices that it would be available as a bundle. Now there was no mention of specific price but it was definitely alluded that it would in fact be cheaper, as that was their whole argument as to why other expansion were cheaper in the store...'because they were old content'. Which by Dec RoI will be, old content.

The term full disclosure is definitely lost these days. I think it is because of fear that people will always opt for the cheapest alternative. it used to be people could be told everything in advance and still be happy because the product was decent and there were no reasons to question the information or motives. But as time has gone by the good will has faltered incredibly, and for good reason.

So it is never about 'worth' or value' because 20 or 30 bux for an expansion to a decent game isnt all that much money. But it is the manner in which it is all disseminated that rubs people the wrong way. So to me it is muchbetter to tell the truth the whole truth and even proffer some stuff up front rather than use the typical sleazy used car salesman banter that is becoming all too frequent when turbine discusses future happenings. it is one thing to cite competitive secrecy, it is totally another to out right lie about things to dupe the player base. I think many people could agree that some stuff they are charging for that was supposed to be free might very well be 'worth' paying for. But after the past couple years the player base generosity and willingness to cut turbine slack has all but disappeared.

Either way it looks like business as usual and I am sure this will all be revisited around Thanksgiving as people clamor to find out what is exactly free in the update and if it is going to end up being just the instances that they already paid for 3 month prior.
