Lothrandir is my favorite Ranger now...(Spoilers Inside)

Other than Aragorn, of course. I mean, first he leisurely one-shots two men who try to backstab him. Just turns around and swipes them, saying "You're a fool if you think to best a Ranger so easily!". Then he endures whips while struggling all the way to Isengard, but still manages to be manly enough to stand up on his feet and walk into Isengard without fear, even giving a proud little speech while he's at it. And on top of it, he seems to be one of the more worldly Rangers, becoming good friends with the Lossoth and being chummy with the men of Dunland.

Turbine, please don't kill him off in Saruman's dungeons, he's too awesome

I'd like to see a quest added in a future expansion / update to free him ... or maybe a new skirmish?

I have a suspicion as to what his eventual fate will be, but I really don't want it to be true.

He's the only ranger I've met not to be a complete bucket head.

It's a good thing George R. R. Martin isn't writing the scripts for the Epic quests....

Indeed, when he dismissively cut down the backstabbers it was awesome -- a Ranger actually acting like a proper Ranger. At Isengard, I fully expected we were witnessing the casual death of yet another Ranger. I figured he'd whine a bit, the guard would kill him, and I'd be sent on in. It was nice that he pulled it together.

It redeemed some of the weakness we've seen throughout the arc. I hope we get to see more of this kind of attitude.

Aye, so far he's my favorite ranger by far too... but I can't help but feel he's going to be turned into some kind of white or something and we'll have to kill him

Just in case though, I call dibs on his armor.

    hahaha.

The book has I think 13(?) arriving to Aragorn, so most of them will die. And most of the ones who do make it die on the Pelennor Fields (Halbarad is specifically mentioned as dying).

He's one of my favourite rangers and I really enjoyed his actions in the book. I would like to see him live if possible.

Unfortunately, a lot of the rangers have to die before meeting up with Aragorn.

    30, actually.

As for Halbarad, I wonder if him dying later in the story is not the reason for him being left out of much of the action. We know he will survive until we reach the Pelennor Fields, so there is no suspense when he is involved in the prior action

That one really took me by surprise. The foreshadowing was there (the women supposedly skulking around at Tal Methadras), but I directly assumed that to be Nona.

Re: Lothrandir is my favorite Ranger now...

Spoilers ahead for LOTR and epic line :P

To clarify a number mentioned earlier: 30 Rangers, plus the sons of Elrond, come to Aragorn in the book on the early morning of March 6 at the Fords of Isen, east side. Since Theodred is still alive, it is before February 25th still. That gives a 11 day gap (February has 30 days) from his death and the Rangers finding Aragorn.

Turbine has, in their own canon, that there were more than 30 Rangers originally (it looks more like double, or triple, that number), but that they were mostly killed off in Dunland.. some around the area, but most, it seems, by the Falcon clan, by the Brenin's taunting in Chapter 30 (and he asks them how much they have- '20? 30?'). So we may see a few more deaths, but it seems the majority of deaths have already happened.

The 11 day gap, when they're so close to Rohan, will likely be explained by Dunlendings (especially the Falcon clan) plus Saruman basically blocking them and toying with them until they defeat their foes. I'd imagine that some foes were left in Dunland, considering that if they all went to Helm's Deep, then nothing would be blocking the Grey Company from crossing the Isen around March 3/4.

    Back on topic...

Agreed completely! Especially considering it was Lothrandir.

I was also happy to see Nona again.

Lothrandir has really risen up as a favorite in my book... I hope he stays alive. Other Turbine-created favorites who are still alive are Dagoras (at least we haven't seen him die..) and Daervunn (though I haven't completed his questline, so... I may be jumping the gun ).

... I still miss Candaith. LOL.

It was more than 13. Halbarad had 30 with him when He met Aragorn in the chapter "The Passing of the Grey Company", as others have mentioned.Good stuff!

" I have 30 with me" said Halbarad "That is all of our kindred that could be gathered in haste; but the bretheren Elladan and Elrohir have ridden with us, desiring to go to war.

Ah, so 30 of his kindred, PLUS him, PLUS sons of Elrond.

That's 30 NPCs invented by Turbine.

We rescue 12 unnamed ones in the dungeons. 18ish more named ones lingering around, depending on if anymore die (including poor Lothrandir... now there's one I want to rescue!)

I'll bid 5 on you, Saruman, to get him back... *rawr*

Yea I was bummed when I got to that part as well, but I also thought that maybe he did not kill him, but rather is just saying that to try and convince you that you had lost, and to join him. Saruman is a tricky dude and beware his voice!

I second Lothrandir being an awesome dude. The very first ranger to have a solid brain instead of a mash of peas!

I also love how his name means, "Blossoming/Flowering Wanderer" in Sindarin.

You mean there's an actual Ranger that isn't Aragorn in this game that isn't useless and dies easier than a fly under a rolled-up newspaper? I'll believe it when I see it.

Seriously though, Turbine should develop more Lothrandir-ish Rangers because we have too many in the game that are nothing more than slightly above-average Bree-man in strange clothes.

So far confirmed survivors besides Elrohir, Elladan and Halbarad are Golodir, Radanir, Saeradan, Amlan, Dagoras and Daervunn. Two more Rangers are confirmed KIA: Andreg and Braigiar. (Oddly enough Dagoras says that Braigiar was killed by Orc ambush in Grawenwood when you first talk to him in Nan Curunir. And yet he most clearly died before that in Tur Morva. Any comments, Berephon?) The fate of three more is uncertain: Amarion failed to report from patrol, Calenglad was among those ambushed by Falcons and not heard of since and Lothrandir was last seen before out imprisonment in dungeons.

Judging from Brenin's taunts it would appear that from original 55 named Rangers only 30+ something remained alive, so I would estimate at least 20 deaths from the hands on the Falcon. What greatly disappointed me though, was that both Rangers we rescue in Chapter 30 and Grey Company Suppliers/Healers throughout Ranger camps are left unnamed. Previously every NPC with function had a name, but in RoI everyone not involved in a quest is apparently named Forge-Master, Expert Scholar, Provisioner etc. (One of the letdowns of RoI as a whole btw. Did your random name generator broke?), so we have no way to know who else made it out. Personally, I am very concerned about Areneth, Langlas, Corunir, Culang, Nethraw, Mincham, Orthonn, Prestadir, Himerion and Idhrenfair - those are the ones we communicated with most in the past.
