but I like my horses ....

I love the concept of having cosmetics for these new war steeds.. great for those who have purchased certain store steeds.. however, what about those of us who have worked hard to collect horses via meta deeds and elsewhere in Middle-Earth? Will we also be able to show off our war steed in Ost Dunhoth or other steed cosmetics? I hope because I really like my horses. Thanks. :-)

    Unfortunately, doesn't seem like it.
    I really hope they reconsider.

The FAQ states that certain store bought horses will be usable as war-steed skins. No info regarding the rest.

MoonwalkintoMordor is right, we will be providing War-Horse cosmetic variants if you've purchased certain steeds from the store, such as the Steed of Night.

However, you can most certainly still use all of those steeds that you bought for travel! They are good, quick steeds that will still be happy to get you from place to place. However, their breed just isn't up to snuff when it comes to combat. You'll need to use your War-Steed on the plains of Rohan if you wish to take part in Mounted Combat.

But, if you wish to travel around the rest of Middle-earth on your War-Steed, you'll be able to do that. You can certain ride on your War-Steed outside of Rohan. However, if you want access to Mounted Combat, you'll need to be in Rohan for that.

Thanks Celstra and I knew that as I said in my OP. What I wanted to know is if they plan on allowing us to use cosmetic steed from other ingame steeds such as from hard earned meta deed steeds like Ost Dunhoth or others.. or will it only be limited to the steeds purchased in the store? I would even be willing to pay for that option.. similar to our cosmetic slots for our character. I apologize if my OP was not more clear. Just would be cool to wear some of the ingame steeds as cosmetics on the war steed too. Thanks again. :-)

Not up to snuff? Why, because we didn't pay TP for them? LOL

So, people who do nothing more than whip out a credit card get to keep the cosmetic appearance of the horse they have chosen as we move into a horse-based game. Those of us who have spent a lot of in-game time working to EARN meta-deed horses do not. You guys over there really have lost touch with what a lot of gamers want out of a gaming experience.

    This.

Plus, is it necessary to talk to us like we're children? Our steeds aren't "up to snuff when it comes to combat"? But if you bought them in the store they are? Many of us are adults--we don't need to talk about LOTRO horses like we believe they're more real than the Tooth Fairy (sorry, kids).

The question is, is it possible that in the future there will be cosmetic skins for War Steeds that can be earned in-game? Clearly it's possible, if it can be done with store-bought horses.

I would like to be able to use my faithful Mathom Society mount. But I'm guessing that is not to be for combat.

Are lottery-won store steeds also usable for war-steed cosmetics?

That is, is owning a store-exclusive steed regardless of the means of acquisition the only requirement to use them for war-steed cosmetics, or do they have to be explicitly purchased versions?

I agree (possibly for the first time ever with the OP ). The "breed just isn't up to snuff " reasoning simply does not wash at all, unless the quality of a horse is determined purely by the amount of TP spent on it. This guy summed it up:

It is nice to hear that there will be a cosmetic option for the war steeds, although, I am guessing that I won't be able to use the new lossoth steed skin for my war horse. I just really like the look of that pony, and would love to use it to ride into battle.

Slightly random question, but will the white goat from the store be able to be used in combat? I know it'd look odd... but I bought it and my Hobbit is very attached!

This is a good answer, thanks!

A request - if you could, mounted sparring ("jousting") would be appreciated. If imiplemented, I'd like to see my war-horse work for combat ouside Rohan when sparring another mounted player.

Do I get a cosmetic skin akin to the Hunter Steed? I think it works quite well for a hunter, especially with the quiver on that side that I can run around on the horse and pull arrows and shoot things with =D

At the moment, the team is currently only doing War-Steed skins for some of the LOTRO Store steeds. But, this does not mean that other skins that represent the in-game horses cannot be done at a future date. We've passed along your feedback to the team so it can be considered.

As to the "up to snuff when it comes to combat," I simply was relating the in-game differences between the War-Steed and the standard travel mounts that we all currently ride. The breeds that we use now aren't bred for war or combat (LOTRO Store mounts included, of course.) However, the War-Steeds that we'll all be riding in Rohan will be much sturdier and bred for combat. Forgive me for putting it like this, I'm a bit of a roleplayer myself, and I frequently refer to in-game lore.

Historically, it is more a matter of training being able to fight on horseback and having a fighting mount (the Swedes and the step peoples used pretty small but really tough horses). But I strongly suspect from the horse session play horses that these are BIG horses, like 16+ hands; so breeding is the way ahead here.

Well, my apologies for being harsh. I dig the roleplaying.

I guess I didn't recognize it as such, since I think most of us understand by now that we won't be able to take our regular mounts into mounted combat...the question now, as you said, is what options we have for cosmetics. It seemed like you were saying that store mounts, like the Steed of Night or the class steeds, *were* up to snuff (and worthy of being upgraded to War Steeds), and the Eriador Steed for becoming World Renowned, or the OD mount or Horse of Many Colors somehow aren't.

I realize there's a bit of work that goes into making a skin for a larger horse, so creating a rush on store-bought mounts is a good way to cover that cost, but at the same time, it does just add to the growing feeling that the store is becoming more important than the game.

They don't look that big in the media I've seen so far. Look like standard horse size, with some armour. I was verr disappoint.

Just curious. Are these the war steed versions of some of the store steeds?

What's the situation with cosmetics of the former 'War-steeds' that have now been downgraded to 'great-steeds', such as the Dunedain Horse and the Galadhrim war-horse? It's hard to say that they weren't bred for combat when the name implies otherwise (at least it used to...)
