that's a nice screenshot showing its 68% speed. however. i really wish we could get a turbine response showing that they wont' "fix" the 68% to 62% speed or the 250 health like they have in the past...

still mad about my poor lil preorder goat

    Questions about steam starter pack.

So I saw that LOTRO is available on steam and you can buy a steam starter pack. How does it work? is there a code that pops-up on screen? Do they send you an email? Is there a different way then the ones I have stated?

Which version is on Steam, the one with the high rez textures?

Really happy to have this on Steam, one less non-steam shortcut for me, one less title I don't have to go to external sources to get (and no Pando YAY!).

As far as I can tell, it is the High Res version. The Steam download is the same size as my current LOTRO install which is the High Res.

And BTW, those who were wondering if you could just copy your files over into the \STEAM\steamapps\common\lord of the rings online\ folder, it looks like that will not work. The Steam installer apparently keeps track of how much it has DL'd. I've copied all but a very few files over into my Steam folder and it's still showing and DL'ing as if I had not copied any files over.

    Re: LOTRO on Steam

I believe it is high-rez cause the download size is about the same, 14.7 gigs or so.

I started a lotro install on Steam, closed it, copied a fully updated version of Lotro to the steam/steamapps/common/lord of the rings online folder, reopened Steam, and let it acquire the last few files it needed. Claimed it was completed, great. Tried to run it, then let it go through "first time installation" (What's "Step 3 of 5.. installing M" anyway? ) - But in the end I got that semi-famous "Unspecified Patch Error" on step 4 of the launcher (Examine Game Data).

Okay great.. Right click on lotro in Steam, validate files, and it deletes and starts to download 12.5 gigs again. I notice the gigantic .dat files are being re-downloaded (it said 15 files needed to be re-acquired).

(Note when I tried validating nearly the same thing earlier it deleted and wanted to downloaded 15gb instead of 12gb, I think I did something wrong there though so I redid it.)

So even if we re-download this on Steam, are future patches, updates etc going to be issued through the Turbine launcher or through the Steam updater? Will we be forced to download an entire gigantic .dat file everytime there's a patch of any size that puts any new content or bit of information in that .dat file?

Guessing not, and the Turbine launcher will update the corresponding files (I don't think Steam checks hashes or whatever on the files everytime you open/run the program, which is why the validate option is there to begin with) but I'm not sure why this time the data files themselves would not match (I can understand executables, etc not matching.)

Or maybe I'm just confused and did something wrong? Is this because my copy of lotro isn't a fresh install and has been patched together from previous updates?

did you exit steam, the copy it over? then load steam again? if you do it while its downloading, steam probably might freak out :P

i just know that i started it and looked at it for 10 minutes and it said something like 6 to 8 hours, then i closed steam, copied over the files, then relaunched steam and it said 2 and a half hours. Sadly i can't check if it really worked since i had to leave for work.

Those and probably many more. I know at least some of them play Team Fortress 2. They had a competitive match against Valve a couple of years back. Turbine won, btw.

Copy the files and try verify the integrity of game cache in steam - right click the game in the Steam library -> Properties -> Local files

It may take a while but its quicker than downloading, not at home to try myself now but its worked for me in the past (when I have downloaded at the office and copied to my home pc)

Ah, you want to look on Steam for that. Steam places all of your purchased product keys under the game's right click menu. Go into your game library, right click on "The Lord of the Rings Online" and then click "View CD Keys" like in the picture below. (Don't mind that it's Gotham City Impostors that I'm using for an example, of course.)

Your purchased key will be in there!
I have not purchased the starter pack but I have purchased skyrim, and it came with a CD key, but when I try to find the "View game CD key" option I can't find it, will the same happen with LOTRO?

I had no problems getting my key the way shown on the screenshot, but I did have to start the download of the game before I could do it for some reason.

That's correct. Future updates and patches will be handled by the Turbine Launcher, not the Steam downloader. Steam handles the initial download and installation. That's it.

    Re: LOTRO on Steam

This is great news. I see all of these f2p games on Steam and wondered why LOTRO wasn't on it. Redownloading now. I use Steam for everything now. I sure hope a lot of special new deals show up on there. I'm going to buy the starter pack for both my accounts just to get the horsey and the points.

    Nice, smart move Turbiners.

    Re: LOTRO on Steam

I'm really happy about this, as I added the LotRO "shortcut" to steam last week and wished it was available through Steam!
The downside is that it will log my playing time now, which could be potentially embarrassing...

Anyways it’s downloaded now and I've brought the Steam pack. Just need Steam/Valve to give a HL3 announcement this week and all will be good.

I copied all my files from the regular lotro folder to the steam one, and tested it out. It works just fine for me!

Well, all the playtime is logged on per-character basis already, though it's not public information. I think my main character has gone past 7 months of in-game time already... You can see it by giving the command "/played" in-game.

That means you can freely embarrass yourself as often as you like. :P

... And yes, copying the client files over to steamapps folder does work. You just have to exit Steam completely before copying them and restart it afterwards. That's how you can basically restore any games to new steam installation from backups as well, if you have slow connection and have to reinstall everything for example.

No. CD keys will only appear in Steam when the game requires them to be used.

A few of us have been wondering when this would pop up ever since the Awsomium & steam files showed up with update 7. As for WB using Steam, they already have a bunch of games that are on Steam, so LotRO is probably just added on to whatever package WB has with Steam. It's probably only a matter of time until we see DDO on there also. I wonder if there will be a special Steam RoR pre-order pack coming out with different perks than what we see in the Turbine store.

    Re: LOTRO on Steam

Right now I have RoI Legendary Edition and I'm VIP. If I buy this, it seems even if I let my VIP go back to premium, with this and RoI Legendary combined all I'd be missing is Angmar and Endwaith? Seems like a really good deal with the points and horse to guarantee I'd have most content even if I can't afford VIP for awhile. Will that work?
