Unhappy A-pork-alypse! Experts predict a paucity of pig

According to the National Pig Association in Britain, less pork is being produced as the cost of grains skyrockets. This means a worldwide bacon shortage!!!!! The beginning of the end.

Bah, I lost all my last years beer money investing in lean hogs, seems no-one wanted the lean ones, I knew I should have invested in fat hogs instead, I couldn't find them listed though

I think you did the right thing. What no one tells you is that you actually have to keep re-investing into the fat-hogs, so really your profit margin is the same.

But the real lesson learnt here is to never fool around with beer money. I mean what where you going to have to drink with the hog, eh?

Now might be a good time for you to take this years beer money and invest in a short position on selling pork belly futures. The assumption is that the poor crop season will result in higher prices for feed hence making pork more expensive. So you buy the pork bellies now and should the guess be correct you should make money at the close out.

Here is a good site that explains it better.

You ever slaughter a pig? Its not a fun expirence, they know its coming. If you dont have a stun procedure its even more horrific because they squeel as you cut thier throat. Then you have to get the hair off, which isnt fun either.

You probably dont know the first thing about slaughtering pigs do you Rouven ?

Yeah, this is basically why I went vegetarian. So glad we have more options for food these days than in the past. There's no good alternative to bacon (or any meat, really), so I just had to live without it and eventually my tastes changed. There is a lot of stuff like Fakin' Bacon® that helps people make a transition, though.

I'll assume you are a butcher then? I'm certainly not! Could I stomach it? Not sure, never tried it. You bet I would if my life depended on it, I'm not squirmish.

Not sure what your angle is? Ask me if "we" eat too much meat and I would say yes. Ask me if we should stop eating meat I would say no. Ask me if animals should be kept proper and I'm all for it.

So if you think about my suggestion - in regards to keeping the animals it's not that bad of an idea, eh? Does it work in larger cities, obviously not. Would that be bad for investors, probably!

Is it good to overfarm in general? Spray all those pesticides around? Lot's of other problems here that do not involve scary emotion-waking animal screams. Apparently more people are starting to have their own little garden again.

Btw, I would not want to be either a professional farmer or have any livestock - if then that would be only for myself. Stop shipping stuff half around the world as well is what I say, then again you need the "open market", right?

Hope that wasn't too much text, again I'm not sure what your angle is.

I respect people who become vegetarians because of this, personally I think other things have to change. Myself I stopped going to "burger" fast food joints as I believe those are the worst offenders. These foods should be taxed through the roof and healthy food should be more affordable.

    I better stop ;o)

My angle is ive slaughtered pigs on my uncle's farm in Virginia and ate the meat. Your post piqued my curiousity and I was genuinely curious if you had slaughtered one yourself. Its my personal belief that people should hunt, fish and raise domestic animals for their own consumption or at least be exposed to it. It garners respect for the food source and makes posting silly non sensical material on forums far more interesting to read.

Pigs and Bacon are serious business.

Watched my neighbor as a 6 year old strip the skin of a bunny, was kind of a little side business for him. Assisted in taking fish apart - but that's about it. It's not realistic for most "city-folk".
I'm happy that your experience made my little silly non sensical material more interesting for you, just don't assume that every non-hunter etc lacks the respect for the food source.

Previous pork paucity posts prompt premature panic.

So you all like bacon eh?

    ever have one of these?

    [IMG][/IMG]

Here is where we seperate the men from the boys.

    the Elvis sandwich

    DIRECTIONS:

    1. Fry your bacon over medium-high heat taking care not to overcook it. It should still be slightly rubbery - not overly crispy. Tear each slice in half to form 4 half slices.

    2. Spread peanut butter on one slice of bread. Spread 1 tbsp. butter on the other slice. Turn buttered slice over and layer banana slices evenly on top. Crisscross the bacon slices over bananas and top with the peanut butter slice of bread. Butter the top side of the of the sandwich with remaining butter and place sandwich in hot pan.

    3. Fry for about 2 minutes on each side until the peanut butter begins to melt and the bread is golden brown. Sprinkle powdered sugar on top of sandwich before it cools. If you're feeling extra decadent, drizzle a little honey on top. Serve with a big glass of milk and you'll eat like a king!
My wife will make me one a year on my birthday.

Do you have a bacon meal you've eaten? Post it here!

    *drool*

Betcha yer grinnin' like a butcher's dog when that thing gets set in front of you too!

Once a year is probably best though! More often than that and you might not have many more birthdays left! But what a way to go!

It's State Fair time in Texas now and I am hoping they have deep fried bacon again this year! I dunno if it's a meal but it shore is tasty! Can't wait! Mmmm bacon....
