Journey contest for TP: Re Facebook

    http://journey.lotro.com/

"Step 1: Sign in with Facebook"

Step 2: Close window, don't participate.

Can't there be another option? Like our forum account?

Sorry! Some of our promotions are set up for certain services, like Facebook. In this case, the contest uses a specific Facebook app to keep track of your progress. But don't worry, there will be plenty of more contests to come in many, many forms! Like, you know, I hear it's Halloween soon... Something about pumpkins...

This has long been something I've hated about the community events in LOTRO.

Turbine has their own website, complete with forums and the ability for people to actually log in to their own accounts for this kind of thing, but all community events require you to have facebook/twitter/whatever. Some major events have even been restricted to certain countries, which lead to such a low number of entries that they started ignoring their own contest rules.

To me it says that I'm a second class customer. I can play the game, but I'm not welcome in community events unless I'm willing to pump up Turbine's artificial friend count on whatever the social media du jour is, or tie my real life info back to my LOTRO account so that marketers can mine that data for profit and sell my contact info.

It's the way it is, and I don't expect it to change. It just lets me know how much the company values me as a customer. A value that also decides how I choose to spend my entertainment money. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I logged in, made my postcard, tweeted it, but browser crash before sharing to facebook, is it still counted for the contest?

I don't like Facebook. I am with the data protectors over here in Europe, which think you give away way too much about your life on that page. And worse, not only about your own, but of your friends, too, without asking them if they would condone.

And they will only change a 'privacy setting' to really private, if it becomes a public issue, eg because a large company has written an article about it. The latest case of this behaviour can be seen here:

    Facebook? Thanks but NO THANKS

    Greetings, Polymachos

Not to mention that there are huge security issues with FB's API at the moment, i had my FB account hacked through an AP on FB and when i retrieved my account etc FB even told me in the retrieval email not to use aps on FB.

I'm apparently not able to participate because I don't live in certain countries :/ Not fun, when taking screenshots is something i really enjoy.
